Professor Darby stood alone on the upper balcony, his palm resting against the cold glass railing as he stared down at the grand hall below.

The soft and elegant music continued to play.

But his mind was far from relaxed.

He had watched Malcolm, Azeez, and the three girls earlier. He had seen the tension in their bodies, the way their conversations dropped into whispers whenever Robert’s name came up.

That alone disturbed him.

Footsteps approached from behind.

Two large men in black suits stopped a few steps away. Their posture was rigid, they were professional security personnel.

Professor Darby didn’t turn around.

“Any report on the boy yet?” he asked quietly.

“No sir." one of the guards replied. “Nothing yet.”

Darby inhaled deeply. “And my daughter?”

The guards exchanged a brief glance.

“Still the same sir. No sign of her around the venue.”

Darby finally turned to face them. His eyes were restless. “She should’ve been here by now.”

“Yes sir.”

“Why isn’t she here yet?” he muttered, more to himself than them, with his teeth clenched.

The guards remained silent.

Darby exhaled slowly, rubbing his temples. “That’ll be all for now.” he said after a moment. “Stay alert and keep me updated.”

“Yes sir.”

They stepped away, disappearing back into the crowd.

Professor Darby remained where he was for a few seconds, staring at nothing. Then he let out a tired breath and turned toward a nearby table. He pulled out a chair and sat down heavily.

He rubbed his eyes as if waking from a nightmare.

Earlier that day replayed in his mind again.

The confrontation at the reception, the way Steve disrespected him, Robert displaying powers that defied logic, and that car.

He shook his head slowly.

“It doesn’t make sense." he whispered.

Robert was supposed to be nothing. An orphan, nobody but a background character.

Yet everything about today said otherwise.

Darby leaned back in his chair, staring up at the chandelier above him. He needed answers. Real ones, and if Robert wouldn’t give them willingly

Then maybe he could use Avery to get them.

Down on the main floor, the atmosphere was very different.

Laughter echoed from the VIP section.

Morris Emmett stood proudly among his family, champagne glass in hand, greeting guests with practiced smiles and confident nods.

Edward and Jane stood close by, enjoying every second of attention that came their way.

Their world was simple tonight.

They were winning.

“This night just keeps getting better." Edward said, grinning as another group of guests passed by to greet them.

“It should be." Morris replied. “We’ve worked hard for nights like this.”

Edward chuckled and lightly bumped his father’s shoulder. “So." he said casually, “how’s the party going, Dad?”

Morris smiled. “So far? Perfect.”

Edward nodded. “I can’t complain about that.”

Morris glanced around the hall, scanning faces, entrances, and balconies. His smile faded just slightly. “Guests keep arriving." he said, lowering his voice, “but I’m starting to get a bit impatient.”

Edward raised a brow. “About?”

“The Graham representative." Morris replied. “We’re over thirty minutes in, and there’s still no sign of them.”

Edward waved it off easily. “Relax, Dad. You know how the Grahams are. They don’t rush.”

Before Morris could respond, a youthful female voice cut in behind them.

“What are you guys talking about?”

They both turned.

Jane stood there with a playful smile, hands clasped behind her back. She looked relaxed and confident.

Morris smiled warmly. “We were just wondering when the Graham representative might arrive.”

Jane nodded thoughtfully. “Oh. That’s a good thing to wait for." she said. “When they show up, it’ll be good for us.”

She paused.

“At least that bastard Robert isn’t here yet.”

For a moment, there was silence.

Then all of them burst out laughing.

Edward shook his head. “Honestly, he should show up." he said. “So he can beg for change for his dying mother. He’s starting to get on my nerves.”

Jane smirked. “Last night, he nearly tried to put on a show at the BGMH Hotel.”

Edward laughed harder. “Yeah. I’m pretty sure Malcolm dealt with him so badly he wouldn’t dare show his face here.”

Jane took a sip of her drink. “And that little Anna." she added casually. “She’s probably dying, hoping that when we get the deal, something might apply to her.”

Edward grinned. “I’d pay to see her humiliated in front of everyone here.”

They laughed again, louder this time, drawing a few glances from nearby guests.

Morris shook his head with an amused smile. “Alright, you two." he said. “I’ll be off. More VIP guests are arriving, and it wouldn’t be nice if I didn’t host them properly.”

Edward lifted his glass. “Go shine Dad.”

Morris clinked glasses with him and walked off into the crowd, his shoulders squared with confidence.

Jane watched him go, then turned back to Edward. “By the way." she asked, “where’s Chloe? I haven’t seen her anywhere.”

Edward smiled mysteriously. “Relax. She’s working on something.”

Jane tilted her head. “Working on what?”

“Something to publicly disgrace those bastards if they show up.”

Jane’s eyes lit up. “Very thoughtful of you.”

Edward chuckled.

“This is going to be the best night ever." Jane said confidently.

At that exactmoment—

A sudden disturbance rippled through the crowd.

The music faltered slightly.

Guests near the entrance turned their heads.

Murmurs started spreading and people began moving toward the doors.

Edward frowned. “What’s going on?”

Jane followed his gaze. “Looks like something’s happening outside.”

All across the hall, conversations died down as attention shifted toward the entrance.

Whatever was happening was big enough to stop the night.

  • CHAPTER 101: Dining with the Graham's

The silverware was clinking, and everyone was talking in that low, happy way you do when the food is so good that it actually calms you down. For a while, nobody said much— they were all just busy experiencing a meal that most people only see in movies.Anna wasn’t the type to sit in silence for long, though. She dropped her fork after a massive bite of steak and just shook her head. "Okay," she said, looking dead serious. "This has to be illegal. Seriously, someone should be in jail for making a steak this good. There should be laws against this."Robert turned to her looking half amused. "Illegal?"Avery chuckled softly beside her.Professor Darby smiled politely while cutting another piece of lamb.Rose ate quietly, still taking everything in— the room, the food, the fact that the boy she had raised was the heir to the most powerful family on earth.Anna took another bite and leaned back again."Yeah," Anna said, pointing her fork at him like she was making a legal argument. "It ju

  • CHAPTER 100: The Table of a Trillionaire

When the doors opened, Anna actually stopped breathing. It wasn't on purpose, she gasped and her lungs just seemed to stall out.“...Oh my God,” she whispered.Avery, Rose, and the Professor were right behind her, and they all had that same reaction of silence. It was that heavy kind of quiet you get when your brain is trying to make sense of something it wasn't built to process. The dining hall was massive— easily the size of a cathedral— with a dome ceiling fifty feet up covered in gold leaf murals, kings and leaders placing down their crowns and bowing before a single throne. Huge diamond chandeliers hung down like frozen waterfalls, and the polished black marble floor was so clean it looked like a mirror. But the real showstopper was the table. It was a single, fifty foot slab of black obsidian with gold designs that stretched almost the whole length of the hall.“That table has to be forty feet long,” Anna muttered.“Fifty,” Professor Darby corrected softly, squinting through hi

  • CHAPTER 99: A Stage Fit for Kings

The Ocean Gallery started to fade behind them as they followed the butler down yet another long corridor. Anna was still looking over her shoulder every few seconds.“I’m definitely going to be dreaming about that whale shark tonight,” she muttered.Avery laughed. “You’re acting like we just stepped onto another planet.”“It felt like one,” Anna shot back.Professor Darby was still shaking his head as he walked. “In forty years of studying history,” he said quietly, “I never imagined I’d just casually stroll past artifacts that national museums would literally start wars over.”Rose had a faint smile on her face, but the look in her eyes showed she was just as amazed. “This doesn't even feel like a house anymore. It’s more like another world.”The butler slowed down a bit and turned back to face them. “If I may ask... do you all enjoy music?”Anna blinked, caught off guard. “Music?”“Classical, perhaps? Orchestral? The opera?”Avery’s face lit up immediately. “Actually, yeah. I love i

  • CHAPTER 98: A Palace Beyond Imagination

The butler led them down a long hallway lined with polished marble and soft golden lighting. Even the air in this part of the Oasis felt different— cooler, quieter, almost sacred.Anna kept glancing left and right like someone walking through a museum they weren’t supposed to be in.“This place just keeps getting bigger,” she muttered.Avery laughed softly. “You’re acting like a kid in a theme park.”“I feel like one,” Anna said immediately. “I thought the medical wing was impressive, but this… this feels like something out of a movie.”The butler stopped in front of a pair of tall elevator doors made entirely of brushed silver.“If you would all step inside,” he said politely. The doors opened silently. The interior of the elevator was larger than some hotel rooms. Soft lights ran along the walls, and the floor was made of a single piece of polished black stone.Professor Darby stepped inside slowly, adjusting his glasses as he looked around.“This elevator alone probably costs more

  • CHAPTER 97: The Weight of the Throne

The hallway outside the medical wing was quiet, but it didn't feel empty. Guards in dark suits were posted every few yards, blending into the shadows cast by the marble walls. The gold trim along the floor caught the soft overhead light, tracing long, expensive lines down the corridor.Abram led the way with Robert walking right beside him. They didn't say much at first, their footsteps the only sound echoing off the polished stone as they headed for the massive gold railed staircase.“Do you actually trust them?” Abram asked eventually.Robert knew his father wasn't one for small talk, so he didn't have to ask who he was talking about. “Avery? Yeah, I do.”“And her father?”They started up the stairs together.“Avery is a good person,” Robert said, keeping his voice steady.Abram glanced over at him. “Good people can still cause problems, Robert.”“Not her,” Robert said with a half smile. “She’s still figuring out how our world works. Honestly, she doesn't seem to care about the fami

  • CHAPTER 96: An Invitation from a Titan

Abram Graham’s gaze shifted away from his son and rested directly on Rose. It wasn’t a sharp look, and it wasn't cold, but it was incredibly measured. It was the kind of look a man gives when he has built global empires from the ground up and is now carefully examining the foundation that shaped his only heir.“Oh,” he said, his voice deep, calm, and perfectly composed. “So, you’re Rose.”It wasn’t a question. He already knew everything about her.Rose felt her heart nearly stop in her chest. Her fingers tightened against the soft bedsheets for a split second before she forced herself to sit upright. Despite Anna reaching out to stop her, Rose swung her legs over the side of the bed, stood up, and lowered her head in a deep, shaking bow.“Mr. Graham…” Her voice was trembling so much she could barely get the words out. “It is such an honor, sir— ”“Get up.”The words weren't harsh or mean, but they carried a weight that made the air in the room feel heavy. Rose froze instantly.Abram
