Edward staggered back, his hand pressed against his aching face.

The crack of that slap was still ringing through the hall. It was louder than the music had ever been. For a heartbeat, the entire crowd was still. Nobody breathed.

Then, Morris Emmett slowly stood up from his seat.

His wine glass tilted in his shaking hand, nearly spilling. The color drained from his face so fast he looked physically ill.

He hadn't expected this, not here and not in front of the most powerful people in the country.

“Andrew… Barry…” Morris started to speak, but his voice was barely above a whisper. It didn't have that booming authority anymore.

Edward touched his lip. His fingers came off with a red stain, and this time, it wasn't the wine. He looked up at the two men standing over him. He was drowning in confusion, shock, and a sudden cold fear.

But Andrew Schmidt didn’t even look at him. He didn't acknowledge Edward existed. He looked right past him at Robert.

The entire hall followed his gaze.

Robert was standing exactly where he had been. The red wine was soaking deep into his expensive sleeve, staining the cuff, a dark bloody crimson. His expression hadn't changed a bit. He was calm and he looked completely unbothered by the chaos.

Andrew reached slowly into his suit pocket.

The guests watched closely, wondering if he was reaching for a phone or a weapon.

He pulled out a white silk handkerchief.

He stepped forward. And then in front of everyone, Andrew Schmidt began to wipe the wine from Robert’s sleeve.

He did it gently and carefully. He treated the stain like it was a crime that should never have touched Robert’s skin.

A gasp of pure disbelief moved through the crowd. It wasn't even a whisper, it was the sound of a hundred people losing their minds at once.

Barry Sanders stepped forward too. Without saying a word, he pulled out his own handkerchief and bowed slightly toward Avery.

“I deeply apologize, Miss Avery." Barry said. His voice was steady and full of respect. “This disgraceful behavior should never have happened tonight.”

Avery froze. Barry Sanders, the man who controlled the city’s muscle, was apologizing to her.

Meanwhile, Andrew kept cleaning Robert’s cuff. His movements were slow and controlled.

“I am truly sorry, Sir Robert." Andrew said quietly. “You should never have been insulted under this roof.”

Sir.

He said Sir.

That one word hit the hall harder than the slaps. It was like a lightning bolt. The crowd erupted into terrified whispers.

"Did he just call him Sir?"

"To that kid? The student?"

Chloe’s hands dropped from her mouth. Her fake tears were gone, replaced by eyes that were wide with genuine terror.

Edward stared at them like they were speaking a language he didn't understand.

Across the hall, Silver grabbed Tracy’s arm so hard it left a mark.

“I told her." Silver hissed. “I told her not to push them!”

Tracy swallowed hard. “She never listens. He’s messed up and now it affects all of us.”

The crowd’s reality was shifting in real time. Avery wasn't just a beautiful girl anymore. She was someone two of the most powerful men in the nation were publicly lowering themselves for. Or so they thought.

Near the back, Malcolm stepped forward with Azeez and Julie. They were staring at the stage like they were watching a ghost. Malcolm narrowed his eyes. Barry was still dabbing at Avery’s dress, and Andrew was standing at Robert’s side like a bodyguard.

Malcolm’s mind was racing. Is this because of Avery? Or is it because of the boy? He remembered the incidents from the Academy.

It didn't make sense. Robert came from nothing and now he's being respected and making grand entries with one of the most beautiful girls in the state. Power doesn't just appear like that. And yet, there it was, standing right in front of him.

Morris finally forced his legs to move. He walked down from his seat, his polished shoes echoing like hammer strikes on the marble floor. He climbed onto the stage, but he didn't look at Robert. He went straight to Avery.

“Miss Avery." Morris said, forcing a stiff, fake smile onto his face. “On behalf of the Emmett family, I sincerely apologize for my son’s reckless and unacceptable behavior.” He put a hand over his heart. “He spoke out of ignorance. He was disrespectful. I am deeply ashamed.”

The hall was silent. Morris was trying to take the wheel again. “You are a valued guest, Avery. Please, do not let this unfortunate moment ruin our relationship.” He bowed to her.

Every eye in the room was watching. This wasn't normal.

Then, Andrew’s calm voice cut through the air. “I believe." he said gently. “you are forgetting someone, Mr. Emmett.”

The tone was polite, but it felt like a threat.

Morris turned slowly. Andrew’s gaze shifted to Robert. The hall followed, and for a split second, Morris’s mask slipped. He had heard the word "Sir.”

He knew something was wrong. But his pride was too big. He buried his shock under a cold smile.

“Ah." Morris said, waving his hand as if Robert were a fly. “That young man.” His tone turned cold. “He wasn't on the guest list. He’s only here because of Miss Avery’s kindness.”

“He doesn't belong in our circle." Morris added. “However, because I respect Miss Avery, I will overlook his presence.”

Morris didn’t even look at him when he said it.

Andrew’s face didn't change, but Barry’s eyes turned red. Before they could speak, Professor Darby stepped forward.

“Mr. Emmett.”

The Professor's voice was quiet, but it carried an old, dangerous authority. He stepped fully onto the stage.

“If you value our relationship." the Professor continued.“You will apologize immediately.”

Morris’s jaw tightened. “Professor, surely you’re joking. The boy is—”

“I am not joking." Professor Darby interrupted. His eyes were steady and serious. “If you want to keep standing where you are today." he said quietly. “This is the only thing you can do.”

Morris looked at Robert for the first time that night.

And for the first time in years, Morris Emmett hesitated, and in that single heartbeat, the entire hall realized the balance of power had shifted.

Robert pushed his chair back and stood up. The sound wasn't loud, but in a room that big, it was enough to get everyone’s attention. Almost instinctively, everyone else started standing up too, their chairs sliding across the polished floor one after another.Anna was up first, then Avery. Professor Darby took a second to straighten his jacket, and Rose followed him, still looking around the dining hall like she was afraid it might vanish if she blinked. Then the butler stepped up behind them like a shadow.Robert gave them a small, relaxed smile. “Come on,” he said, and started walking. The Graham Oasis was even more intense at night. The hallways had a soft, golden glow that bounced off the marble floors, making them look like mirrors. Through the massive glass walls, you could see fountains lit up in white light and gardens that looked more like outdoor art galleries.Anna kept turning her head from side to side. “Okay,” she muttered, mostly to herself. “I will definitely get lost

  • CHAPTER 101: Dining with the Graham's

The silverware was clinking, and everyone was talking in that low, happy way you do when the food is so good that it actually calms you down. For a while, nobody said much— they were all just busy experiencing a meal that most people only see in movies.Anna wasn’t the type to sit in silence for long, though. She dropped her fork after a massive bite of steak and just shook her head. "Okay," she said, looking dead serious. "This has to be illegal. Seriously, someone should be in jail for making a steak this good. There should be laws against this."Robert turned to her looking half amused. "Illegal?"Avery chuckled softly beside her.Professor Darby smiled politely while cutting another piece of lamb.Rose ate quietly, still taking everything in— the room, the food, the fact that the boy she had raised was the heir to the most powerful family on earth.Anna took another bite and leaned back again."Yeah," Anna said, pointing her fork at him like she was making a legal argument. "It ju

  • CHAPTER 100: The Table of a Trillionaire

When the doors opened, Anna actually stopped breathing. It wasn't on purpose, she gasped and her lungs just seemed to stall out.“...Oh my God,” she whispered.Avery, Rose, and the Professor were right behind her, and they all had that same reaction of silence. It was that heavy kind of quiet you get when your brain is trying to make sense of something it wasn't built to process. The dining hall was massive— easily the size of a cathedral— with a dome ceiling fifty feet up covered in gold leaf murals, kings and leaders placing down their crowns and bowing before a single throne. Huge diamond chandeliers hung down like frozen waterfalls, and the polished black marble floor was so clean it looked like a mirror. But the real showstopper was the table. It was a single, fifty foot slab of black obsidian with gold designs that stretched almost the whole length of the hall.“That table has to be forty feet long,” Anna muttered.“Fifty,” Professor Darby corrected softly, squinting through hi

The Ocean Gallery started to fade behind them as they followed the butler down yet another long corridor. Anna was still looking over her shoulder every few seconds.“I’m definitely going to be dreaming about that whale shark tonight,” she muttered.Avery laughed. “You’re acting like we just stepped onto another planet.”“It felt like one,” Anna shot back.Professor Darby was still shaking his head as he walked. “In forty years of studying history,” he said quietly, “I never imagined I’d just casually stroll past artifacts that national museums would literally start wars over.”Rose had a faint smile on her face, but the look in her eyes showed she was just as amazed. “This doesn't even feel like a house anymore. It’s more like another world.”The butler slowed down a bit and turned back to face them. “If I may ask... do you all enjoy music?”Anna blinked, caught off guard. “Music?”“Classical, perhaps? Orchestral? The opera?”Avery’s face lit up immediately. “Actually, yeah. I love i

  • CHAPTER 98: A Palace Beyond Imagination

The butler led them down a long hallway lined with polished marble and soft golden lighting. Even the air in this part of the Oasis felt different— cooler, quieter, almost sacred.Anna kept glancing left and right like someone walking through a museum they weren’t supposed to be in.“This place just keeps getting bigger,” she muttered.Avery laughed softly. “You’re acting like a kid in a theme park.”“I feel like one,” Anna said immediately. “I thought the medical wing was impressive, but this… this feels like something out of a movie.”The butler stopped in front of a pair of tall elevator doors made entirely of brushed silver.“If you would all step inside,” he said politely. The doors opened silently. The interior of the elevator was larger than some hotel rooms. Soft lights ran along the walls, and the floor was made of a single piece of polished black stone.Professor Darby stepped inside slowly, adjusting his glasses as he looked around.“This elevator alone probably costs more

  • CHAPTER 97: The Weight of the Throne

The hallway outside the medical wing was quiet, but it didn't feel empty. Guards in dark suits were posted every few yards, blending into the shadows cast by the marble walls. The gold trim along the floor caught the soft overhead light, tracing long, expensive lines down the corridor.Abram led the way with Robert walking right beside him. They didn't say much at first, their footsteps the only sound echoing off the polished stone as they headed for the massive gold railed staircase.“Do you actually trust them?” Abram asked eventually.Robert knew his father wasn't one for small talk, so he didn't have to ask who he was talking about. “Avery? Yeah, I do.”“And her father?”They started up the stairs together.“Avery is a good person,” Robert said, keeping his voice steady.Abram glanced over at him. “Good people can still cause problems, Robert.”“Not her,” Robert said with a half smile. “She’s still figuring out how our world works. Honestly, she doesn't seem to care about the fami
