Inside the hall, the party was still booming with noise. You could hear the muffled sound of laughter and the clinking of glasses through the thick walls. Someone hyped Morris’s name, treating him like a king.
But out here, the night was biting and cold.
Robert stood in the shadows, his expression was plain and Avery stood right beside him, her breath hitching in the chilly air. Then, she heard it.
Footsteps.
Professor Darby walked toward them. His face wasn't just red with embarrassment or twisted with anger. He was pale — deathly pale.
Before Robert could even say a word, the Professor did something that felt like time stopped. He dropped to one knee right there on the hard, cold pavement.
Avery let out a sharp gasp. "Father! What are you doing?"
He didn't even look at her. He kept his head bowed low, staring at the ground.
"I was wrong." he said, his voice hoarse and trembling. "I judged you, I insulted you, I treated you like you were nothing, and I was a fool for it."
Inside, the heavy bass of the music thudded against the walls. But Robert didn't move an inch. He just looked down at the man.
"I thought I understood how the world worked." the Professor continued, his voice shaking. "I thought I knew what real power looked like, but I was blind."
Avery stared at her father in total shock. This was a man who never apologized to anyone except her mom. "Father, please, stand up." she whispered, reaching for his arm.
But he stayed down. He wouldn't budge. "I never meant to disrespect you." he said to Robert, sounding desperate. "Please, forgive me. I spoke out of ignorance because I didn't know who you truly were."
A long, heavy silence followed. The only sound was the wind whistling between them. Robert finally spoke, his voice was cold.
"Stand up."
It wasn't a kind request. It sounded like he was dismissing a servant who had bored him. But the Professor stayed on his knee.
"Please." he pleaded again. "If not for me, then for my daughter’s sake."
The seconds ticked by. Just when the tension felt like it was going to snap, a faint, smile appeared on Robert’s lips.
"Very well." Robert said. "I forgive you."
The Professor let out a loud, shaky breath of relief.
"But." Robert added, his voice dropping to a whisper, "only because of Avery."
"Thank you. Thank you so much." the Professor muttered. He stood up slowly, his joints stiff. He looked at the two of them and suddenly blurted out, "I give you both my blessing. If you want to be together... even if you wanted to get married tonight... I would support it completely."
Avery jerked her head, surprised. "Father? What is wrong with you?" she asked softly. "You didn't even like him some hours ago. You called him a nobody."
The Professor looked down at his shoes, his face full of shame. "I was ignorant, Avery. I thought I was protecting you. I didn't realize I was standing in the path of something far greater than I could ever imagine."
Avery slowly turned her gaze to Robert. She looked at his calm eyes and his steady hands. Who are you? she thought. How do people change so fast when they realize who you are?
She wasn't scared, but the world felt different now and she was less certain.
Robert simply smiled at her. "Shall we?"
Avery blinked, confused. "Shall we what?"
"The night is still young." Robert said with a quiet, confident laugh. It was the kind of laugh a man uses when he knows he owns the world. He pulled out his phone and made a single, short call.
"I need a ride." he said into the phone. "Something fast. Something classy." There was a tiny pause. "Yes. Bring the Bugatti."
He hung up. Avery stared at him. "A Bugatti?"
Robert just winked at her.
Two minutes later, the sound hit them first. A low, deep growl that vibrated in their chests. It sounded expensive and aggressive at once.
Bright headlights shone through the darkness at the end of the driveway. The guests near the entrance stopped talking and turned their heads. A sleek, jet black Bugatti La Voiture Noire rolled into view. The paint job looked like liquid midnight under the hanging lights.
The car stopped right in front of them, the engine purring like a giant beast. A driver in a tailored black suit stepped out and opened the door.
Robert turned to the masked guards who had been standing by the entrance. "You may go now, thank you for coming."
The guards bowed deeply and disappeared into the shadows without a sound. Professor Darby watched them go, his mouth hanging open.
Robert walked to the passenger side and opened the door himself. "For you." he said to Avery.
She hesitated for a second, then stepped into the car. The leather smelled like wealth. Robert walked around and sat beside her. The door shut with a soft, heavy thud.
The engine roared once, and the Bugatti shot forward like a bullet. Inside the hall, people rushed to the windows.
"What was that car?!" someone yelled. "Was that a Bugatti?!"
But the car was already a blur of tail lights in the distance.
Inside the Bugatti
The city lights turned into golden streaks outside the tinted windows. Avery watched the world fly by, still trying to wrap her head around everything that had happened.
"You're full of surprises." she said quietly.
Robert leaned back into the soft seat. "Is that a good thing?"
"I'm not sure yet." she admitted.
He chuckled. "So." he said, turning to look at her, "where are we going? I'm in your hands."
Avery thought for a moment, then a small smile played on her lips. "I know a place. It's called The Grandeur Reserve."
Robert raised an eyebrow. "Sounds fancy."
"It is." she replied. "It’s owned by the Bullion Corporation and it's private dining only. You have to be invited to even get through the gate, but I have a few connections."
Robert nodded slowly, a mysterious look in his eye. "The Bullion Corporation, huh? Then let’s go."
The Bugatti swerved onto the highway, heading toward the glowing lights of a massive estate in the distance.

CHAPTER 102: The View from the Throne
Robert pushed his chair back and stood up. The sound wasn't loud, but in a room that big, it was enough to get everyone’s attention. Almost instinctively, everyone else started standing up too, their chairs sliding across the polished floor one after another.Anna was up first, then Avery. Professor Darby took a second to straighten his jacket, and Rose followed him, still looking around the dining hall like she was afraid it might vanish if she blinked. Then the butler stepped up behind them like a shadow.Robert gave them a small, relaxed smile. “Come on,” he said, and started walking. The Graham Oasis was even more intense at night. The hallways had a soft, golden glow that bounced off the marble floors, making them look like mirrors. Through the massive glass walls, you could see fountains lit up in white light and gardens that looked more like outdoor art galleries.Anna kept turning her head from side to side. “Okay,” she muttered, mostly to herself. “I will definitely get lost
CHAPTER 101: Dining with the Graham's
The silverware was clinking, and everyone was talking in that low, happy way you do when the food is so good that it actually calms you down. For a while, nobody said much— they were all just busy experiencing a meal that most people only see in movies.Anna wasn’t the type to sit in silence for long, though. She dropped her fork after a massive bite of steak and just shook her head. "Okay," she said, looking dead serious. "This has to be illegal. Seriously, someone should be in jail for making a steak this good. There should be laws against this."Robert turned to her looking half amused. "Illegal?"Avery chuckled softly beside her.Professor Darby smiled politely while cutting another piece of lamb.Rose ate quietly, still taking everything in— the room, the food, the fact that the boy she had raised was the heir to the most powerful family on earth.Anna took another bite and leaned back again."Yeah," Anna said, pointing her fork at him like she was making a legal argument. "It ju
CHAPTER 100: The Table of a Trillionaire
When the doors opened, Anna actually stopped breathing. It wasn't on purpose, she gasped and her lungs just seemed to stall out.“...Oh my God,” she whispered.Avery, Rose, and the Professor were right behind her, and they all had that same reaction of silence. It was that heavy kind of quiet you get when your brain is trying to make sense of something it wasn't built to process. The dining hall was massive— easily the size of a cathedral— with a dome ceiling fifty feet up covered in gold leaf murals, kings and leaders placing down their crowns and bowing before a single throne. Huge diamond chandeliers hung down like frozen waterfalls, and the polished black marble floor was so clean it looked like a mirror. But the real showstopper was the table. It was a single, fifty foot slab of black obsidian with gold designs that stretched almost the whole length of the hall.“That table has to be forty feet long,” Anna muttered.“Fifty,” Professor Darby corrected softly, squinting through hi
CHAPTER 99: A Stage Fit for Kings
The Ocean Gallery started to fade behind them as they followed the butler down yet another long corridor. Anna was still looking over her shoulder every few seconds.“I’m definitely going to be dreaming about that whale shark tonight,” she muttered.Avery laughed. “You’re acting like we just stepped onto another planet.”“It felt like one,” Anna shot back.Professor Darby was still shaking his head as he walked. “In forty years of studying history,” he said quietly, “I never imagined I’d just casually stroll past artifacts that national museums would literally start wars over.”Rose had a faint smile on her face, but the look in her eyes showed she was just as amazed. “This doesn't even feel like a house anymore. It’s more like another world.”The butler slowed down a bit and turned back to face them. “If I may ask... do you all enjoy music?”Anna blinked, caught off guard. “Music?”“Classical, perhaps? Orchestral? The opera?”Avery’s face lit up immediately. “Actually, yeah. I love i
CHAPTER 98: A Palace Beyond Imagination
The butler led them down a long hallway lined with polished marble and soft golden lighting. Even the air in this part of the Oasis felt different— cooler, quieter, almost sacred.Anna kept glancing left and right like someone walking through a museum they weren’t supposed to be in.“This place just keeps getting bigger,” she muttered.Avery laughed softly. “You’re acting like a kid in a theme park.”“I feel like one,” Anna said immediately. “I thought the medical wing was impressive, but this… this feels like something out of a movie.”The butler stopped in front of a pair of tall elevator doors made entirely of brushed silver.“If you would all step inside,” he said politely. The doors opened silently. The interior of the elevator was larger than some hotel rooms. Soft lights ran along the walls, and the floor was made of a single piece of polished black stone.Professor Darby stepped inside slowly, adjusting his glasses as he looked around.“This elevator alone probably costs more
CHAPTER 97: The Weight of the Throne
The hallway outside the medical wing was quiet, but it didn't feel empty. Guards in dark suits were posted every few yards, blending into the shadows cast by the marble walls. The gold trim along the floor caught the soft overhead light, tracing long, expensive lines down the corridor.Abram led the way with Robert walking right beside him. They didn't say much at first, their footsteps the only sound echoing off the polished stone as they headed for the massive gold railed staircase.“Do you actually trust them?” Abram asked eventually.Robert knew his father wasn't one for small talk, so he didn't have to ask who he was talking about. “Avery? Yeah, I do.”“And her father?”They started up the stairs together.“Avery is a good person,” Robert said, keeping his voice steady.Abram glanced over at him. “Good people can still cause problems, Robert.”“Not her,” Robert said with a half smile. “She’s still figuring out how our world works. Honestly, she doesn't seem to care about the fami
