The hall fell into a silence so deep it felt like the building itself was holding its breath. The crystal chandeliers overhead hummed quietly, and even the waiters stopped moving, their silver trays frozen in mid air.

Every person in that room, from the old money royalty to the new tech billionaires, leaned in because they didn't want to miss a single syllable of what Anna was about to say.

Anna didn’t rush. She took her time, letting the tension stretch until it felt like it might snap. She looked Jane right in the eyes, then shifted her gaze to Edward.

Finally, she looked over at Robert. He was leaning back in his velvet chair, one arm resting lazily on the side, looking as calm as a lake in the morning. He gave her a tiny, almost invisible nod.

Anna turned back to the Emmetts and let a small, sharp smile appear on her lips.

“I want Edward and Jane,” she said, her voice clear and steady enough to reach the back of the room, “to bow.”

The words didn't just echo, they sank into the floor like lead. A wave of shocked whispers moved through the crowd. You could hear people inhaling sharply, and one woman in the front row gripped her pearls so hard they nearly snapped. It wasn't a scream or a loud demand, but it was the most shocking thing anyone had heard all night.

Edward’s jaw went tight instantly, and Jane’s fingers curled into the fabric of her expensive dress. Edward let out a dry, angry laugh that had no humor in it. “You’ve got to be joking,” he barked.

“I’m not,” Anna said, her voice like ice.

Jane stood taller, her chin lifting in defiance. “We are not bowing to you. Not in this lifetime.”

Anna tilted her head to the side, looking completely unbothered. “It isn’t even about me,” she said calmly. She shifted her eyes toward Robert. “It’s about him.”

The temperature in the room felt like it dropped ten degrees. Jane’s face hardened into a mask of pure hate. “I would never bow to an orphan,” she spat, her voice dripping with poison. “Especially one who thinks having a little money makes him someone important.”

The insult hung in the air, heavy and ugly. The crowd shifted uncomfortably, waiting for Robert to explode or shout. But Robert didn't even blink. He didn't move a single muscle.

He looked at Jane the way a person looks at a piece of junk mail— totally unimportant. Then, he simply looked away. That silence did more damage to Jane’s pride than any shouting match ever could.

The host cleared his throat, stepping forward like he was walking through a minefield. “By the rules of the Private Duel,” he said, his voice trembling just a bit, “the winner gets one request. If the losing side refuses, there are consequences.”

Edward’s eyes snapped toward him. “What kind of consequences?”

The host didn't hesitate. “A total suspension of your bidding privileges at every elite auction in the world. For three years.”

The room exploded into hushed talk. Three years. In their world, being banned from these events was like being exiled. It meant your status was gone. Jane’s cool look flickered for the first time, and Edward’s fists were clenched so hard his knuckles were white.

“This is ridiculous!” Edward snapped. “You expect us to kneel just because she waved a black card around?”

“No,” the host said firmly. “Because you lost. And those are the rules you agreed to.”

That hit harder than any insult. Anna finally stood up. It wasn't a dramatic jump, she just rose from her seat with a grace that made the rustle of her silk dress sound like thunder in the quiet room.

She stepped out into the aisle, and every camera and every eye followed her.

“I’m not asking for your money,” she said quietly, stopping in the middle of the floor. “I already took that tonight.” A few people in the crowd let out a nervous, uncomfortable laugh. “And I’m not asking for your family name. I’m just asking for you to acknowledge the truth.”

Jane’s breathing was getting fast and shallow. Edward leaned forward, glaring at Robert. “If you have a problem with us, Robert, stand up and face me like a man!”

Robert stayed in his chair. He didn't even turn his head. After a long, agonizing pause, he finally spoke. “Making a lot of noise,” he said, his voice low and steady, “is not the same thing as having power.”

The hall went dead still. Edward felt it then— that invisible shift in the room. For the first time all night, people weren't looking at him with respect or fear. They were looking at Robert.

Jane looked around and saw it too. The investors, the old money families, the business sharks in the tailored suits— they were all calculating, measuring the room, and quietly choosing sides.

Pride is the most expensive thing in the world, and the Emmetts had already paid billions tonight. Jane knew that three years of being an outcast would ruin their family more than kneeling ever would.

She took a step forward.

“Jane!” Edward hissed, trying to stop her.

But she didn't listen. Her high heels clicked against the marble floor, the sound echoing in the suffocating silence. She stopped right in front of Anna.

For a moment, the two girls just looked at each other— one with broken pride, the other with calm authority.

Then, Jane bent her knees. It wasn't a big, theatrical bow. It was slow and deliberate. She lowered her head in front of everyone. The entire hall let out a collective gasp.

Edward stared in total disbelief. His sister, the pride of the Emmett family, was bowing to a girl she used to bully.

Anna didn't laugh or brag. She just stood there and accepted it.

Edward felt something crack inside him. It wasn't fear yet, but it was the realization that he had lost control of everything. Slowly, he stepped forward, each step feeling heavier than the last.

He stopped next to Jane and looked up at Robert one last time. Robert’s eyes finally met his, and in them, there was no anger or hatred. There was just the look of someone who knew exactly how this was going to end.

Edward lowered himself. One knee hit the marble floor, then the other. He bowed his head. The silence that followed felt heavy and sacred.

Anna looked down at them both. “You could have made this so much easier for yourselves,” she whispered.

Jane closed her eyes tight, and Edward’s jaw was set so hard it looked like it might snap. Robert finally stood up.

The simple movement was enough to make every eye in the room track him. He walked forward, stopping right behind Anna. His presence felt different now— heavy, powerful, and undeniable.

“You confused being arrogant with actually having status,” Robert said, his voice cold and even. “Tonight, you learned the difference.” He leaned slightly closer to Edward. “This isn't my revenge. This is just a correction for your bad behavior.”

He straightened his back. “And I’ve only just begun.”

He placed a hand lightly on Anna’s shoulder. “Let’s go.”

Anna turned around without looking back at the people on the floor. They walked down the aisle together— not rushing, not cheering, just finished. Behind them, Jane and Edward slowly stood up, but the damage was done. Everyone had seen it. The Emmetts weren't the kings of the city anymore.

Across the hall, Avery let out a long, shaky breath. “Well,” she muttered to herself, “that was the most expensive bow I’ve ever seen.”

Robert didn't look back. “I told you,” he said quietly to Anna as they sat down. “I’d deal with them.”

Anna sat back in her chair, her heart finally starting to pound now that the adrenaline was fading. She didn't feel wild or giddy. She just felt powerful. And for the first time in their lives, across the hall, the Emmetts felt small.

Robert looked around at the group for a second. Anna was barely hanging on, leaning so hard against Avery that it looked like gravity had suddenly doubled for her. Professor Darby looked exhausted but still had that fascinated glint in his eyes, and Rose just had this quiet, wide eyed amazement that hadn't faded all night.Robert smiled. “Well,” he said calmly, “I think we’ve had enough excitement for one night.”Anna mumbled something that sounded like she was agreeing, but it might have just been sleep talking.Robert turned slightly toward the butler. “Please show Professor Darby to his room.”The butler gave a respectful nod. “Of course, sir.”Professor Darby adjusted his glasses and followed the butler down one of the long marble corridors. The lighting was softer here— warmer and a bit more private, like a hallway in a luxury hotel designed for heads of state. They stopped in front of a massive wooden door framed in dark gold designs, and the butler swung it open.Professor Da

Robert pushed his chair back and stood up. The sound wasn't loud, but in a room that big, it was enough to get everyone’s attention. Almost instinctively, everyone else started standing up too, their chairs sliding across the polished floor one after another.Anna was up first, then Avery. Professor Darby took a second to straighten his jacket, and Rose followed him, still looking around the dining hall like she was afraid it might vanish if she blinked. Then the butler stepped up behind them like a shadow.Robert gave them a small, relaxed smile. “Come on,” he said, and started walking. The Graham Oasis was even more intense at night. The hallways had a soft, golden glow that bounced off the marble floors, making them look like mirrors. Through the massive glass walls, you could see fountains lit up in white light and gardens that looked more like outdoor art galleries.Anna kept turning her head from side to side. “Okay,” she muttered, mostly to herself. “I will definitely get lost

The silverware was clinking, and everyone was talking in that low, happy way you do when the food is so good that it actually calms you down. For a while, nobody said much— they were all just busy experiencing a meal that most people only see in movies.Anna wasn’t the type to sit in silence for long, though. She dropped her fork after a massive bite of steak and just shook her head. "Okay," she said, looking dead serious. "This has to be illegal. Seriously, someone should be in jail for making a steak this good. There should be laws against this."Robert turned to her looking half amused. "Illegal?"Avery chuckled softly beside her.Professor Darby smiled politely while cutting another piece of lamb.Rose ate quietly, still taking everything in— the room, the food, the fact that the boy she had raised was the heir to the most powerful family on earth.Anna took another bite and leaned back again."Yeah," Anna said, pointing her fork at him like she was making a legal argument. "It ju

  • CHAPTER 100: The Table of a Trillionaire

When the doors opened, Anna actually stopped breathing. It wasn't on purpose, she gasped and her lungs just seemed to stall out.“...Oh my God,” she whispered.Avery, Rose, and the Professor were right behind her, and they all had that same reaction of silence. It was that heavy kind of quiet you get when your brain is trying to make sense of something it wasn't built to process. The dining hall was massive— easily the size of a cathedral— with a dome ceiling fifty feet up covered in gold leaf murals, kings and leaders placing down their crowns and bowing before a single throne. Huge diamond chandeliers hung down like frozen waterfalls, and the polished black marble floor was so clean it looked like a mirror. But the real showstopper was the table. It was a single, fifty foot slab of black obsidian with gold designs that stretched almost the whole length of the hall.“That table has to be forty feet long,” Anna muttered.“Fifty,” Professor Darby corrected softly, squinting through hi

The Ocean Gallery started to fade behind them as they followed the butler down yet another long corridor. Anna was still looking over her shoulder every few seconds.“I’m definitely going to be dreaming about that whale shark tonight,” she muttered.Avery laughed. “You’re acting like we just stepped onto another planet.”“It felt like one,” Anna shot back.Professor Darby was still shaking his head as he walked. “In forty years of studying history,” he said quietly, “I never imagined I’d just casually stroll past artifacts that national museums would literally start wars over.”Rose had a faint smile on her face, but the look in her eyes showed she was just as amazed. “This doesn't even feel like a house anymore. It’s more like another world.”The butler slowed down a bit and turned back to face them. “If I may ask... do you all enjoy music?”Anna blinked, caught off guard. “Music?”“Classical, perhaps? Orchestral? The opera?”Avery’s face lit up immediately. “Actually, yeah. I love i

Even the air in this part of the Oasis felt different— cooler, quieter, almost sacred.Anna kept glancing left and right like someone walking through a museum they weren’t supposed to be in.“This place just keeps getting bigger,” she muttered.Avery laughed softly. “You’re acting like a kid in a theme park.”“I feel like one,” Anna said immediately. “I thought the medical wing was impressive, but this… this feels like something out of a movie.”The butler stopped in front of a pair of tall elevator doors made entirely of brushed silver.“If you would all step inside,” he said politely. The doors opened silently. The interior of the elevator was larger than some hotel rooms. Soft lights ran along the walls, and the floor was made of a single piece of polished black stone.Professor Darby stepped inside slowly, adjusting his glasses as he looked around.“This elevator alone probably costs more
