Nicholas stared blankly at Kelly for several seconds, genuinely stunned by the accusation.

‘Me?’ he thought blankly. ‘Pretentious braggart?’

He had no idea why she would suddenly think that, but then…

‘Wait…’ A sudden realization hit him. ‘Is this because I said Villa No. 001 wasn’t so special?’

Instantly, Nicholas glanced back at Kelly, only to see that her demeanor had completely changed now, replaced by cold indifference and obvious disdain.

‘I really was right,’ he thought inwardly.

Still, he didn’t bother explaining himself.

Explaining that he genuinely didn’t find the villa impressive would probably only make things worse.

Besides, saying things like “I’ve seen far better” would sound so arrogant that even he would want to punch himself.

So instead, Nicholas merely shrugged casually.

“I wasn’t bragging or pretending,” he replied honestly.

‘Huh?’

Kelly nearly laughed from irritation.

But instead, her icy aura intensified further, her already imposing demeanor becoming even colder.

“Whatever,” she uttered flatly, clearly no longer interested in arguing with him.

‘You can act as pompously as you want. It has nothing to do with me anyway,’ she thought coldly while shutting the car door. ‘This contract marriage won’t even last six months.’

And once that thought settled in her mind, whatever tiny trace of goodwill she previously had toward Nicholas completely disappeared.

Especially after remembering that not only was he boastful and pretentious, but he was also unemployed and tardy.

“Let’s go,” she said finally, her voice icy cold and distant once more.

Without waiting for Nicholas’s response, Kelly casually strode toward the villa’s entrance, her steps naturally elegant despite the coldness surrounding her demeanor.

Even something as simple as walking somehow looked refined when she did it… as though she had been born judging people professionally.

Meanwhile, Nicholas could already tell that whatever decent impression Kelly previously had of him had completely shattered into pieces.

One careless sentence about Villa No. 001, and suddenly, he had transformed into an unemployed, pretentious braggart in her eyes.

Honestly, even he found the situation ridiculous.

Still, Nicholas could only smile bitterly inwardly, not bothering to explain anything.

Besides, he wasn’t bothered at all.

If anything, the entire situation only amused him more.

Thus, Nicholas followed behind Kelly toward the duplex with his usual relaxed pace, one hand casually tucked inside his pocket while his backpack rested loosely against his shoulder.

Compared to Kelly’s cold and commanding aura, he looked ridiculously laid-back, like a tourist accidentally wandering into a drama he wasn’t supposed to join.

Once inside, Nicholas casually scanned the villa’s interior.

The design was extremely minimalistic, and everything was spotless… neat to an almost obsessive degree.

The furniture was neatly arranged in a clean, modern style, with calm, subdued colors and no unnecessary decorations to clutter the space.

The entire villa practically screamed Kelly’s personality.

Meanwhile, Kelly continued walking deeper into the villa without slowing down once.

Nicholas followed quietly behind her until, suddenly, she stopped beneath the staircase and turned toward him.

“That will be your room until the end of this contractual marriage,” she said flatly, pointing toward the small room directly beneath the stairs.

The room felt less like a bedroom and more like a space meant for doing laundry.

In fact, most wealthy families used a place like that to store forgotten boxes.

Nicholas glanced at the room briefly before raising a brow slightly.

Still, he casually nodded without showing the slightest trace of dissatisfaction or approval.

Kelly observed him for a second but honestly didn’t care whether he liked the arrangement or not.

“And apart from this room, the visitor’s washroom, the kitchen, and the living room,” she continued coldly, “every other area in this villa is off-limits to you.”

Nicholas still showed no obvious reaction… no anger, complaint, awkwardness, or anything.

He just stood there, quietly listening with the same calm expression he had maintained since entering the manor.

Meanwhile, Kelly interpreted his silence as acceptance and continued speaking without concern.

Once she finished, she waved lightly toward the room, her meaning quite obvious.

Nicholas lazily stepped toward the door, preparing to enter his new “accommodation,” when suddenly…

“Lest I forget." Kelly’s cold voice sounded again from behind him.

Nicholas paused and turned slightly.

“There’s a birthday banquet at my family estate later this evening,” she said indifferently. “I’ll announce our marriage there, so prepare yourself.”

Her tone left absolutely no room for negotiation, argument, or even basic human discussion.

She sounded less like a newlywed wife and more like a company executive assigning work.

Before Nicholas could even respond, Kelly had already turned around and started heading toward the exit.

“I’m off to work." Her voice drifted behind her.

Then, without looking back even once, she exited the villa and shut the door behind her.

Silence returned instantly.

Still standing outside his assigned room, Nicholas stared at the closed door for several seconds with the same unreadable expression, then suddenly…

“Wow,” he muttered slowly, the emotion in his voice impossible to identify. “I asked for entertainment, and now I’m getting it by the truckload.”

A helpless chuckle escaped him afterward.

The situation was so absurd that even he didn’t know whether to laugh or sigh anymore.

But still, Nicholas shook his head lightly while imagining how certain people from his past would react if they saw the current him.

The mighty Nicholas Wellesley.

Without wasting more time, he finally stepped forward and pushed the room’s door open, then…

He paused.

Jason shuddered violently, refusing to let his imagination finish that dreadful thought.Ultimately, he drew a slow, steady breath, barely managing to suppress the fury boiling inside him."Please forgive me, sir," he said respectfully as he turned toward
