The applause inside the grand auditorium of the State Convention Center was deafening, a roaring wave of thunder that echoed off the three-tiered marble balconies.

Down on the circular central stage, bathed in the blinding glare of a dozen high-powered spotlights, Brody Cromwell adjusted his velvet bow tie and flashed a dazzling smile to the sea of press cameras. Beside him, Nala Sawyer stood with her chin held high, her emerald silk dress glistening under the lights as she rested her hand possessively on Brody’s arm.

In the front row, Martha Sawyer was clapping so hard her diamond-encrusted bracelets rattled wildly. Ethan leaned back in his leather chair, smirking like a conqueror inspecting his newly won kingdom.

Up on the high balcony, Declan Wilde stood quietly by the polished marble railing, a glass of ice water in his hand. Beside him, Fiona Griffin leaned against the rail.

"Ladies and gentlemen!" Brody’s voice boomed over the arena-grade sound system, echoing with supreme, unchallenged confidence. "Tonight, history belongs to Cromwell Capital and Sawyer Dynamics! With this single key, the Aegis Core integrates directly into the National Central Reserve Grid, securing our nation's financial future forever!"

The crowd cheered. Brody raised the glowing glass launch key high into the air for the press lenses, paused for dramatic effect, and slammed it down into the master console terminal.

BZZZZZZ...

The sound system emitted a low, mechanical hum.

Suddenly, the seventy-foot sapphire hologram of the Aegis Core froze mid-rotation. The main diagnostic progress bar stuck at 0.00%. The central stage screens flickered erratically, dropping into an unnerving, silent pause.

Five seconds passed. Ten seconds passed.

A cold, suffocating wave of panic slammed straight into Nala’s chest. Her smile went completely stiff, her fingers tightening around Brody’s sleeve until her knuckles turned white. Cold sweat broke out along the back of her neck under the blistering stage light.

“No... no! her heart hammered against her ribs !

In those ten agonizing seconds, a memory ripped through her mind. The last time, it was only Declan that could fix the glitch.

“I thought he fixed it permanently!” She glared up at Declan on the balcony but he wasn't even looking her way.

BEEP-BEEP!

FLASH!

Before Nala could lose her breath entirely, the giant seventy-foot hologram burst into vibrant, pulsing sapphire light, and the central screen flashed a blinding, bold prompt:

[INTEGRATION SUCCESSFUL: 100%]

[NATIONAL CENTRAL RESERVE GRID: ACTIVE]

[SYSTEM STATUS: ONLINE]

The arena erupted into absolute chaos. Two thousand central bankers, international investors, and government officials leaped to their feet, delivering a standing ovation.

Nala let out a ragged, trembling gasp, her chest heaving as a massive surge of adrenaline flooded her veins. The panic vanished instantly, replaced by a wave of intoxicating relief and toxic pride.

She looked up toward the high balcony, locking her eyes onto Declan’s dark, unmoving silhouette.

You bitter, pathetic loser, Nala thought, her lips curving into a contemptuous smirk as her eyes burned with arrogance. You thought I couldn't survive without you? Look at us! We built a miracle while you're standing up there like a hired bodyguard!

Down in the VIP section, the crowd parted as a squad of eight heavily armed Iron Gate Enforcers in matte-black tactical uniforms entered, escorting Vice-Director Harrison Grant.

Harrison Grant stepped inside the front booth, his sharp gaze scanning the stage before he took an elevated seat reserved for military dignitaries. He had come personally to inspect the live launch and gather field intelligence on the system's structural integrity.

Seeing the highest military official in the defense sector taking a seat to witness their work, Brody and Nala nearly burst with overwhelming pride.

"Director Grant!" Brody gushed, hurrying over to the VIP booth alongside Nala, Martha, and Ethan, his face flushed with excitement. "What an incredible honor! You came to inspect our work in person!"

Harrison Grant looked up, his face an impenetrable mask of cold, tactical authority. He held a high-grade military diagnostic pad in his hands, tapping a quiet key. "I came to verify the architecture's stability myself, Mr. Cromwell. Tell me... did you and Miss Sawyer construct this core framework yourselves from the ground up?"

"Every single line of code, Director Grant!" Brody declared boastfully, puffing his chest out as Nala nodded proudly beside him. "It is completely unhackable, infinitely scalable, and utterly flawless! I guarantee the Grand Commander himself will be deeply impressed by our genius!"

Martha pushed forward, her hands clasped together in desperate reverence. "Director Grant, please! We humbly beg you to report the flawless success of this launch to the Grand Commander! An official sign-off from Iron Gate would change our lives forever!"

Harrison Grant slowly turned his eyes toward the high balcony, briefly making eye contact with Declan, who gave an almost imperceptible tilt of his head.

Harrison looked back at Brody, his eyes like two pieces of ice. "No need for me to report your work to the Grand Commander, he already knows about it."

Without another word, Harrison stood up, gestured to his armed escort, and walked out of the auditorium through the private VIP doors.

"Did you hear that?!" Ethan whispered excitedly, grinning like a fool. "He said, the Grand commander already knows about our work!!'

"We did it!" Martha squealed in delight, clutching Nala's hand. "We are going to be endorsed by Iron Gate!"

Within minutes, the main floor became a frenzy. Dozens of high-profile international investors, central bankers, and tech moguls swarmed Brody and Nala, waving legal contracts and offering massive partnership deals. On the wall displays, stock tickers went wild as Cromwell Capital and Sawyer Dynamics' stock values surged at an alarming, unprecedented rate.

Drunk on success, Brody and Nala signed intent forms while reporters snapped hundreds of photos.

As the main event concluded and the grand hall began to clear out, Declan and Fiona walked down the central marble staircase to head toward the private parking exit.

The moment Nala, Brody, Martha, and Ethan spotted Declan walking with Fiona, they immediately marched over, flanking the bottom of the staircase to cut off their path.

"Well, well, look who's slinking away," Brody sneered, stepping into Declan's space with a loud, mocking laugh. "Did you enjoy watching true perfection from the cheap seats, tech boy? Did you see the stock tickers rising?"

Nala stepped up beside Brody, her arms crossed, looking at Declan with cold, condescending pity. "Declan... I hope you realize how foolish you look now. Yesterday you sat in my garage telling me the system would crash. Today, we integrated with the National Reserve, and Vice-Director Grant himself came to inspect our victory."

Nala turned her eyes to Fiona Griffin, offering a sharp, fake smile. "Miss Griffin, I honestly feel sorry for you. As a respected CEO, you really should discard this dead weight for your own good. He's a penniless, bitter ex-husband who tried to sabotage us out of petty jealousy."

Fiona looked Nala up and down with an expression of supreme, effortless contempt.

"Discard him?" Fiona let out a smooth, melodic laugh that echoed off the marble walls. "Miss Sawyer, please stop embarrassing yourself. I don't need your advice"

Nala’s face flushed a deep, furious red. "You... how dare you"

"Let's go, Fiona," Declan said softly, his voice deep, calm, and completely unbothered.

Declan didn't even spare a glance at Brody or Nala as he walked past them, guiding Fiona smoothly toward the glass exit doors.

"Enjoy your little victory while it lasts, parasite!" Brody yelled after Declan, his face contorted in rage. "Tomorrow, when our Iron Gate contract goes through, we'll buy out Griffin Industries just to fire you again! Hahaha!"

Brody threw his head back, laughing hysterically as he slapped his hands together in triumph.

BZZZZ... BZZZZ...

Mid-laugh, a sharp, metallic vibration buzzed inside Brody's coat.

Tucked inside the inner pocket of his custom Italian tuxedo jacket, his private diagnostic tablet began to vibrate frantically.

BEEP-BEEP! BEEP-BEEP!

Brody’s laugh faltered slightly. Keeping his proud smile locked in place for the few remaining photographers in the hall, he casually slipped his hand into his coat, pulling out the small black tablet to check what he assumed was a routine network notification.

He tapped the screen.

The smile on Brody Cromwell’s face instantly froze.

[CRITICAL KERNEL ERROR: MEMORY LEAK IN DEEP ARCHITECTURE]

[BIOMETRIC SAFETY NET: NOT FOUND]

[DATA BUFFER OVERLOAD: 89.4% AND RISING]

[INTERNAL HARDWARE TEMPERATURE: EXCEEDING CRITICAL LIMITS]

[SYSTEM COLLAPSE IMMINENT]

His eyes widened and the color drained from his skin so fast he looked like a corpse standing under the ambient venue lights. Cold, terrifying sweat burst from every pore on his forehead as he stared at the screen in pure, hidden horror.

It was the only reason the system had never crashed under heavy load.
