Rain poured over Nova City like the heavens had burst open.

Outside the Imperial Grand Hotel, the laughter and music from the engagement banquet had vanished, replaced by a silence so complete that even the falling rain seemed deafening.

More than two hundred guests stood behind the hotel’s towering glass doors, staring at the unbelievable scene unfolding before their eyes.

Twenty-four men in tailored black suits knelt on the rain-soaked pavement.

Each lowered his head in absolute respect.

Luxury Rolls-Royces stretched along the driveway, their headlights cutting through the darkness like silent sentinels.

At the front of the convoy stood an elderly man with neatly combed silver hair. Though rain soaked his expensive suit, he made no attempt to stand.

Instead, he looked at Ethan with tear-filled eyes.

His voice trembled.

“Young Master Ethan Ashford…”

“After twenty-five years…”

“We’ve finally found you.”

Ethan felt as though the world had stopped turning.

His heartbeat echoed in his ears.

The cold rain soaked through his clothes, yet he barely noticed.

He looked behind him, half expecting someone else to appear.

There was no one.

The old man was speaking to him.

“I’m sorry,” Ethan said after a long silence. “You must have mistaken me for someone else.”

The old man’s expression didn’t change.

“There is no mistake.”

“I’ve spent twenty-five years searching for you.”

Behind the glass doors, whispers spread rapidly through the crowd.

“What is happening?”

“Did he just call him Young Master?”

“Who are those people?”

Inside the ballroom, Marcus Ashford’s smile slowly disappeared.

He pushed through the crowd and stepped outside beneath the covered entrance.

His expensive leather shoes stopped just short of the rain.

“What is the meaning of this?” Marcus demanded.

The old man didn’t even turn his head.

For him, Marcus didn’t exist.

“My name is Samuel Grant,” he said calmly, his eyes never leaving Ethan.

“For over forty years, I served the Ashford family.”

“I was your father’s most trusted adviser.”

Ethan frowned.

“My father died five years ago.”

Samuel’s face softened.

“The man who raised you loved you with all his heart.”

“But he was not your biological father.”

The words struck Ethan harder than any insult Marcus had thrown at him.

His adoptive father…

wasn’t his real father?

Memories flashed through his mind.

As a child, he had often asked why there were no baby pictures of him.

His father had always smiled gently and changed the subject.

When Ethan turned eighteen, he had asked again.

His father simply replied,

“Some truths come with time, son.”

At the time, Ethan hadn’t understood.

Now those words returned with unexpected weight.

Samuel slowly stood.

One of the bodyguards stepped forward and handed him a black leather briefcase.

Samuel opened it with careful hands.

Inside were several neatly arranged folders.

He removed a single photograph protected inside a transparent sleeve.

“Please…”

“Look at this.”

Ethan hesitated before accepting it.

The photograph had faded with age.

A young couple smiled proudly at the camera.

The man wore a navy suit.

The woman cradled a newborn wrapped in a blue blanket.

Around the baby’s tiny wrist was a silver bracelet engraved with an elegant crest.

Ethan’s breath caught.

Without thinking, he rolled back his own sleeve.

The bracelet he had worn since childhood rested against his wrist.

The engraving was identical.

Samuel nodded slowly.

“That bracelet has been in the Ashford family for generations.”

“It was placed on your wrist the day you were born.”

Behind them, gasps spread through the crowd.

Sophia covered her mouth with both hands.

She remembered Ethan once telling her he had no idea where the bracelet came from.

They had laughed about it.

Now…

It no longer seemed like an ordinary piece of jewelry.

Marcus stepped forward.

“This is ridiculous.”

“Anyone can make up a story.”

Samuel calmly reached back into the briefcase.

This time he removed a sealed document.

He handed it to Ethan.

It was a certified DNA report.

At the top were the words:

Ashford Family Genetic Verification

The results showed a probability of over 99.99%.

Ethan stared at the document.

His hands trembled.

“I don’t understand…”

Samuel sighed.

“Twenty-five years ago, your father, Richard Ashford, was Chairman of Ashford Global.”

“He built one of the world’s greatest business empires.”

“But power attracts greed.”

“There were those who believed the Ashford legacy should belong to them.”

“The night your parents were attacked…”

“…a loyal servant escaped with you through a hidden passage.”

Ethan looked up sharply.

“My mother?”

Samuel lowered his eyes.

“We never found her.”

Those four words carried decades of pain.

Rain continued falling.

No one spoke.

Even Marcus remained silent.

The city’s elite, who had mocked Ethan only minutes earlier, now looked at him with entirely different eyes.

Some were curious.

Some were frightened.

Others were already wondering what this revelation meant for Nova City’s balance of power.

Samuel closed the briefcase.

“There is much more you need to know.”

“But not here.”

He respectfully opened the rear door of the lead Rolls-Royce.

“Please come with us.”

Ethan didn’t move.

He looked back toward the hotel.

His eyes met Sophia’s.

She looked as though she wanted to say something.

To apologize.

To explain.

But the words never came.

Some opportunities, once lost, could never be recovered.

Ethan gave her a small nod.

Not one of forgiveness.

Not one of anger.

Simply a farewell.

He turned and stepped into the waiting car.

The door closed with a soft click.

One by one, the convoy pulled away from the hotel.

Standing beneath the grand entrance, Marcus watched the taillights disappear into the rainy night.

His phone vibrated.

He answered immediately.

A deep voice spoke from the other end.

“Report.”

Marcus swallowed.

“…Samuel Grant found him.”

A long silence followed.

Then the voice replied,

“So…”

“The rightful heir has finally returned.”

The call ended.

Marcus slowly lowered the phone.

For the first time in years…

He felt something he had almost forgotten.

Fear
