With deliberate slowness, Lucian descended the stairs. His full attention and gaze were focused on Aria. He had never expected her to do such a thing. He would have sworn with his entire being that she wouldn't do this.

Standing on the last step, Lucian contemplated turning away and heading back to his room, but before he could react, Elle was standing in front of him.

"Oh, why are you running away? Are you afraid that the guest might laugh at your disgusting and poor outfit?" Elle sneered.

Lucian gritted his teeth in frustration. He had come to the conclusion that he now hated Elle to the core, but he was too tired to argue with her. Remaining silent, he endured her taunts.

Elle observed his lack of response but still continued.

"Why are you suddenly playing dumb? You're the type who challenges others. What happened? Did a cat cut your tongue?" Elle questioned him mockingly. She looked at her daughter, then returned her gaze to Lucian.

"Why are you staring at Aria like that? I can smell something burning. Is it jealousy? Oh my... oh my... why am I even asking? My daughter has finally chosen the right man."

Her words stung, but Lucian remained silent, infuriating Elle even more. She kicked Lucian's foot with her toe.

Lucian looked at her with one thought running through his mind. "Right man," he echoed.

"Yes, the right man! Do you think you're of any use to us or even to her? You wench! Maybe you should be hired by Lawrence as their gateman. You're only fit to lick other people's shoes!"

With that, she left and pushed Lucian aside, paving the way for herself.

Lucian's legs wobbled forward, and he held the railing for support. His eyes burned with anger as he stared at Aria. His fists clenched with burning rage, but he knew there was nothing he could do.

Elle was right. He should just leave Aria alone for the sake of his own peace of mind.

After standing there helplessly for a while, he adjusted his tie, composed himself, and walked over to where Aria was receiving her birthday presents.

Lucian brought out a box from his pocket and gave it to Aria, wishing her a happy birthday. "Happy birthday, Aria."

"Thank you." Aria said and collected the small box from him. As she opened it, she was stunned. There was an ancient emerald ring inside. "Wow, it looks beautiful."

"That's the only accessory I possess right now. I hope you keep it safely."

After his statement, he turned and walked a few steps away from where Aria was when a large arm grabbed his.

"Lucian Jiang?"

A tall, well-built, and handsome man spoke to Lucian, who looked displeased at him.

"Yes, was it?"

The man heaved a sigh and said to Lucian, "What are you doing here? Aren't you one of the royals in the country of Aurelia?"

Surprise flickered across Lucian's face for a moment, quickly replaced by contempt and indifference. "What's with this royal bloodline you're talking about?"

The man expected Lucian to agree with what he had said, but to his surprise, Lucian was avoiding his question.

"I'm definitely sure you're His Highness, Prince Lucian."

"I'm sorry, but I'm not the Lucian you know," he said, acting as though he didn't know what the man was talking about.

"Who are you? And why are you bombarding me with questions?" Lucian asked him.

"I'm sorry for not introducing myself. I'm Birla Lawrence."

"Birla Lawrence. Sounds nice," Lucian complimented.

The two men turned their gazes towards the dance floor and also towards Mr Reign, who was approaching them. He smiled at Lawrence and said, "My daughter wants you to have a dance with her."

"It's my pleasure, Mr Reign. I will definitely have a dance with my childhood partner."

Mr Reign nodded at his response and squeezed his shoulder gently, just like a father would do to his child. He spoke. "Of course, go now. Don't keep her waiting any longer."

"Okay."

Lucian was dumbstruck. Was this the Lawrence they were all talking about? Lucian swore that he would make The Reign suffer for allowing Aria to dance with this bastard named Lawrence.

He watched as Lawrence and Aria danced to the rhythm of the song, swaying majestically across the dance floor.

Lucian laughed at his thoughts for a bit before walking away from the house.

---

In the noisy bar, Lucian sat comfortably on a chair, his long, lean legs crossed over each other. He held a red drink in his hand.

Lucian took a sip from the glass of wine and gulped it down. He finished the entire drink in one go and signalled the bartender to give him another.

After taking countless drinks for a long while, his eyes still didn't feel hazy from the drunkenness.

He smirked and laughed so loudly, like an insane man who had escaped from a psychiatric hospital not too long ago. Rage surged through him like a burning inferno.

Everyone in the bar turned in his direction, and they started gossiping about him.

"Can you believe it? He's the poor son-in-law of the Reigns. I wonder what he's doing here while his wife, Aria, is celebrating her birthday."

"Kid me not. The only logical reason I can think of is that maybe they kicked his poor ass out of the house. He doesn't deserve to be the son-in-law of the Reigns."

"Yeah, that's true. I even heard that his wife filed for divorce, but he rejected it. He said he wouldn't divorce her."

"People like him just want good things in life without working for them. But, though, let me not lie, he looks really handsome."

"He might look handsome, but his pocket is definitely not as good as his looks."

"But the way the Reigns despise him is uncalled for. I think he should even agree to divorcing Aria. Don't you think?"

Mockery and laughter filled Lucian's ears. He clenched the glass cup he was holding so tightly that he didn't realise when it shattered in his hand. Anger and despair consumed his mind completely.

They were right. The best solution to all his mistreatment was to sign the divorce papers and accept his life as the future king of Aurelia.

Gritting his teeth, he stood up, ignoring the sneers and burning gazes of everyone.

The eyes following him everywhere felt like monsters reminding him of how pathetic he really was.

As he made his way towards the exit, Max suddenly appeared before him, grinning.

"I know you will come to terms with divorcing her."

"So, what then?"

"Don't get me wrong. That's just my theory. I've observed the Reign family's attitude towards you for years now, and it has always been the same. They consider you nothing."

Max continued when Lucian didn't respond. "So, when you told me they would change, I just knew you were saying it because of the love you have for your wife. But now that she has joined her family, there's no need for you to stay there."

"And what's that in your hand?" Lucian asked Max curiously.

"The divorce papers your wife signed. I want you to sign your copy so this chapter can end once and for all. Mind you, beautiful ladies are waiting for you in Aurelia."

"Okay," Lucian replied. He signed the divorce papers and handed them back to Max.

I'm sure you will help the Birla family with it when the time comes."Mr Reign's face turned sour after hearing what Lawrence said. Is this man crazy? He can't help him with the dragon."I know it might be hard for you, but please consider this the first favour I will be asking of the Reign family since we got to know each other. I know you won't fail me. Am I right?" Lawrence told him firmly."Alright, since you need a dragon, I will help with it, but definitely not Violent. This will be my last time setting foot in this house," Lucian informed them, looking at each one of them with an emotionless face."Oh, that's nice. You have actually made the right decision once in your lifetime. You should get going already," Mr Reign said slyly, turning towards Lucian."You're right. I have made the right decision. A decision I should have made a very long time ago," Lucian answered with a smirk.Mr Reign's face darkened. • Chapter 5 I will bear the consequences

Lucian looked at his Aria with confusion. He never thought Aria would sign the divorce papers after everything they had been through together. Never in his wildest dreams had he anticipated that she would be easily fooled by her family into divorcing him."Lucian, I... I..." Aria swallowed hard. She wasn't able to explain to him why she had taken such a drastic step because she feared he wouldn't be able to accept it. Nevertheless, she needed to let him know why she had signed the papers."Actually, Lucian..." Her voice was low as she began explaining to him that her dad had made a promise. "Dad has secured our child's future. He said that if I don't divorce you, he won't assist us. He has secured our child's future.""Are you listening to yourself, Aria? Who told you that I can't take care of our child? Have you also been seeing me as a poor, useless guy?""No, Lucian. You're getting it all wrong. It's not what you're thinking.""Then make me understand!" Lucian's voice reverberated
