Lucian's face darkened at the sight of the doctor. He had strictly told Max not to let the doctor come. Did Max defy him? The question didn't linger in his mind any longer because the doctor had already started treating Muna, who was unconscious.
Meanwhile, Aria's face immediately lit up the moment the doctor arrived.
"I will be back," Lucian informed the family. Without waiting for their response, he left.
Immediately he got to his room, he brought out his phone from his pocket and dialled a number. "Hello, Max. How did the doctor arrive? I personally told you to keep him hostage."
"I know. I tried, but he slipped out of my hands when I went out."
"What do you mean by slipping out of your reach? Are you damn mad?" Lucian fired at him angrily. He couldn't believe Max was so careless. He couldn't even take care of a simple task.
"I'm sorry, Your Highness, but the man was just too clever for only me to handle. That man is a sly fox," Max told Lucian through the phone.
Lucian fell speechless for a while, but he couldn't hold back his disagreement with the matter. "Where are the rest?" he asked.
"They went back to Aurelia. They told me they would be back before sunrise," Max conveyed, more like he was coaxing him.
Max wanted to tell him that a problem had arisen in their country, Aurelia, but he was scared to tell him because Lucian would leave everything behind, even though he had made a vow never to return to Aurelia due to his father's betrayal many years ago.
"Don't you want to at least visit Aurelia? It's been years since you last visited." He couldn't hold on any longer and blurted out what was on his mind.
"Why do you want me there? I'm sure you know why I left. I can't go, even if I wanted to," Lucian told him from the other end.
"I know it's been thousands of years, but at least you need to visit your birthplace once and accept the throne..." Max suddenly trailed off.
"Shut your mouth, Maxwell. I'm not power-hungry, and I don't need any throne."
"Forgive my insolent behaviour, but your in-laws are treating you like trash. I also heard your wife had divorced you. There's no need to stay in a place where you're not valued at all."
"I know that they aren't treating me as their son-in-law, but very soon, everything will change. They will start respecting me."
Max's words came out in a rush as he started speaking. "But how, Your Highness? The people of Aurelia need you to be their king. You're the only surviving heir to the throne and the only one with true royal blood running through your veins. They need you. They need a strong and capable leader, my prince."
"That's enough. No more discussion about that. I have decided on this matter. I will not be going there for eternity."
"Okay, fine. Let's make a deal."
"And what's that?"
"If you don't get to do anything about your divorce up until tomorrow, then you will have to return to Aurelia. Deal?"
"Deal," Lucian agreed and hung up.
Lucian paced slowly around his room, thinking about his next move. What should he do? Was there a way for him to change Aria's mind? The major reason he left everything behind wasn't just because of the betrayal caused by his family, but also because of the love he had for Aria. Now that she wanted to leave him, there would be no use in staying here anymore. The best thing for him to do was to leave.
"Fuck..." He cursed under his breath and caught his lower lip between his perfect white teeth.
But then again, he had this strong feeling not to leave just yet.
---
The rays of the sun streamed down through the curtains. Lucian groggily lifted his head, feeling good.
"Oh, damn! Today is Aria's birthday." He remembered and quickly got off the bed to prepare himself.
"Good morning, Aria!" Lucian greeted her as he hurriedly went to meet her. "Oh my, you look so beautiful!" Lucian exclaimed immediately he laid his eyes on her. "Your birthday dress looks so beautiful."
"I forgot. Can I give you your birthday gift here?"
"No, give it to me when everybody is bringing theirs. That sounds good." Aria told Lucian decisively. She turned her back against him and walked past him without another word.
"Okay then, see you in a minute," Lucian said after Aria.
Lucian walked past a door in the house, and he immediately stopped. His eyes were caught by something. He took a peek through the door, which was slightly open. "Muna," he muttered as he opened her door. It made a creaking sound.
He entered the room and stood three steps away from the bed she lay on before speaking. "I don't know why you got injured so severely, but I'm still trying to understand why you said I'm the reason behind you being so badly hurt."
"I'm sure that back in the woods, I only encountered a werewolf. Or are you perhaps a werewolf?" he said, more to himself, as he stood there staring at her unmoving body.
He stood there for a while, pondering over the puzzle. After a while, he turned and was about to leave when he saw his mother-in-law approaching the door with a tray of food in her hands.
"Let me help by giving her her drugs and food," Lucian volunteered, stretching his hands out. When he noticed her piercing gaze, he dropped his hands and took back his offer. "Fine, I won't help," he told her.
"Who even gave you the fucking right to be in my niece's room? How dare you? You didn't treat her last night, and all of a sudden, you're showing your fake concern. How dare you?" Elle fired at Lucian angrily, her voice devoid of any emotion.
"I just wanted to help out."
"Oh please, just stop blabbering. If you truly wanted to help her, then you would have done exactly that when you had the opportunity. Stop faking that useless concern. It might work on my precious daughter, Aria, but never on me."
Elle was growing more irritated by the second. Just how dare this lowlife call her mother-in-law?
"Shut your mouth and stop calling me mother-in-law. I'm not your mother-in-law."
"But you are."
"I said shut your mouth!" Elle yelled at him. She took the glass of water from the tray she was carrying and splashed it in Lucian's face, causing him to shiver at her sudden action.
"That serves you right," Elle hissed at him and walked past him to tend to Muna.
Lucian just stared at her, not knowing what to do at that moment. He stormed out of the room in a dazed state. He went back to his room to change his clothes. When he was done, he came out and walked past the hallway. As he was about to descend the stairs, the sight that greeted him left him utterly in awe.
Aria was hugging someone else so intimately that Lucian almost broke down in tears. She was doing it in front of everyone.

His gaze finally settled on her. "You. Aren't you the receptionist from earlier?" Lucian asked while staring at her red, luscious lips. She looked intently at him before answering. "Yes, I am.""Oh... "What do you mean by you can't help us? We are looking for a suitable man for my precious Aria.""I know." Lawrence faked a smile. "We don't really need the dragon now. I'm sure you will help the Birla family with it when the time comes."Mr Reign's face turned sour after hearing what Lawrence said. Is this man crazy? He can't help him with the dragon."I know it might be hard for you, but please consider this the first favour I will be asking of the Reign family since we got to know each other. I know you won't fail me. Am I right?" Lawrence told him firmly."Alright, since you need a dragon, I will help with it, but definitely not Violent. I will give you the others," Mr Reign said.Mr Reign continued, explaining his reasons to Lawrence. "The only reason I won't give you Violent is that, for hundreds of decades, no one has been able to summon it. Anyone who tries will have their power drained because of its sheer size.""Oh, I'll see about it, then."---The moon began to disappear

Everyone's eyes narrowed at him suspiciously.Lucian stood rigid. He had come to talk to the Reign family for the last time before his departure to Aurelia."I just came here for the last time. This will be my last time setting foot in this house," Lucian informed them, looking at each one of them with an emotionless face."Oh, that's nice. You have actually made the right decision once in your lifetime. You should get going already," Mr Reign said slyly, turning towards Lucian."You're right. I have made the right decision. A decision I should have made a very long time ago," Lucian answered with a smirk.Mr Reign's face darkened. His eyes narrowed as he sensed the authority in Lucian's tone."Then what are you still doing her

He would have sworn with his entire being that she wouldn't do this.Standing on the last step, Lucian contemplated turning away and heading back to his room, but before he could react, Elle was standing in front of him."Oh, why are you running away? Are you afraid that the guest might laugh at your disgusting and poor outfit?" Elle sneered.Lucian gritted his teeth in frustration. He had come to the conclusion that he now hated Elle to the core, but he was too tired to argue with her. Remaining silent, he endured her taunts.Elle observed his lack of response but still continued."Why are you suddenly playing dumb? You're the type who challenges others. What happened? Did a cat cut your tongue?" Elle questioned him mockingly. She looked at her daughter, then returned her gaze to Lucian."Why are you staring at Aria like that? I can sm

Chapter 5 I will bear the consequences
Lucian looked at his Aria with confusion. He never thought Aria would sign the divorce papers after everything they had been through together. Never in his wildest dreams had he anticipated that she would be easily fooled by her family into divorcing him."Lucian, I... I..." Aria swallowed hard. She wasn't able to explain to him why she had taken such a drastic step because she feared he wouldn't be able to accept it. Nevertheless, she needed to let him know why she had signed the papers."Actually, Lucian..." Her voice was low as she began explaining to him that her dad had made a promise. "Dad has secured our child's future. He said that if I don't divorce you, he won't assist us. He has secured our child's future.""Are you listening to yourself, Aria? Who told you that I can't take care of our child? Have you also been seeing me as a poor, useless guy?""No, Lucian. You're getting it all wrong. It's not what you're thinking.""Then make me understand!" Lucian's voice reverberated
