When Chloe opened her eyes, the wall clock was already pointing at nine. As she stretched lazily, her gaze landed on a tray placed on the bedside table—milk, avocado, toast, eggs, grilled meat, and a banana neatly arranged. Feeling hungry, she eagerly pulled the tray closer.

“Isn’t Eric the perfect future husband? He lulled me to sleep last night, and now he’s prepared such a lavish breakfast this morning. I really, really like him!”

Chloe devoured the food without restraint. Just as she was about to drink the milk, her brows knitted together when she noticed a piece of paper tucked beneath the glass.

“This must be a love note from Eric,” she said with a chuckle as she unfolded the paper.

“I’m going to campus. I won’t be home until evening. My men will come to guard and keep you company.”

After reading Eric’s message, Chloe pouted. Her irritation instantly killed her appetite. She pushed the tray back onto the table, then lay down again, too lazy to do anything.

Several universities participated, with the winner earning the right to represent the city at the provincial-level championship. Because of that, every team pushed themselves to the limit to secure victory. The spectator stands were packed with supporters, including plenty of fans from the University of the Grand Houston. However, instead of cheering for the team as a whole, the crowd—dominated by women—kept shouting just one name: Eric.Naturally, the sight made the other rowing club members green with envy. Some even joked around, asking Eric to share a bit of his charm so they could attract female attention too.“Look at that, Miss Turner. His words drew chuckles from the members and even the coach, though inwa

Eric let out a long breath as he looked at Chloe lying in the guest room of his house. He rubbed his face several times, his mind weighed down by a single concern. He would tell Violet about this later—to prevent any misunderstanding. He had just finished clearing up the last one, and he had no intention of letting history repeat itself.“Get some sleep. I’ll stay here and keep watch,” Eric said when Chloe turned to look at him sitting on the single sofa. The reason Eric agreed to let Chloe stay over was because she reminded him of Elise—who had once been in a situation just as bad. She had tried, but it felt like a huge rock was pressing down on her chest, forcing her eyes open again.“Are you worried about Violet?” Chloe asked as she sat up on the bed.Eric exhaled sharply. “I told you to sleep.
