The nurse hesitated, but eventually handed him her phone.
The call had only rung twice when Marcus’s voice came from the other end.
“Who is this?”
“It’s me.”
Silence.
A few seconds later, Marcus’s voice changed.
“Sir Damian?”
“I’ll give you five minutes. Come here and settle the hospital bill. Send someone to find out where Natalie is! I want to leave the hospital now.”
“But, Sir, you can’t appear in public right now and—”
“Now! And I don’t want to repeat myself!” Damian raised his voice.
“Yes, Sir!”
Nearly five minutes passed, and Damian was still waiting impatiently.
Marcus had promised to come, but time seemed to move far too slowly. Damian even refused to return to his room and chose to remain in the hospital corridor instead.
Several times, a nurse asked him to rest, but Damian only shook his head.
“I don’t want to go back to my room.”
“Sir, you just underwent—”
“I know.”
Damian waved his hand and continued pacing back and forth.
His mind was filled with too many things.
Damian let out a long sigh.
“This ridiculous Good Deed System!”
“Great. Now I’m even talking to something that might only exist inside my own head.”
Damian rubbed his face.
“I gave blood, then saw a blue screen, received a reward, and my physical abilities improved…” he muttered irritably. “If that system is really real, then why is it silent now?”
Damian stopped.
“Crazy. I’m actually starting to complain to a fake system that’s nothing more than a hallucination in my own head.”
Suddenly—
Thud!
Something crashed into Damian.
Damian flinched and immediately looked down.
A young woman had fallen right in front of his feet.
The girl was probably eighteen or nineteen years old. Her clothes were worn, her hair was messy, her face was pale, and her eyes were filled with fear.
Behind her, a man and several medical staff members came running after her.
“Stop! Don’t run!”
The girl hurriedly got up and hid behind Damian’s taller body.
Both of her hands tightly gripped the back of Damian’s clothes.
Damian frowned.
“What is going on?”
The girl shook her head in fear.
“They want to take my kidney!”
“What?!”
Damian immediately turned toward the nurse who had just arrived.
His expression became serious.
The nurse stopped several steps away from them. Behind her were two neatly dressed men who had been chasing the girl.
“Move aside, Sir,” one of the men said.
Damian did not move.
“That girl owes us money.”
The man pointed toward the thin girl still hiding behind Damian.
“Her parents told her to donate her kidney to repay the debt.”
Damian stared at them in disbelief.
“This matter has already been discussed with her family.”
The man sighed as if Damian were merely interfering in their business.
“Sir, don’t get involved. We are only taking what is rightfully ours.”
Damian stared at them coldly.
“You have no idea who you’re dealing with.”
The two men exchanged glances.
One of them even smiled contemptuously.
“And who are you?”
Damian fell silent.
That question made him realize the reality of his current situation.
Who was he now?
He no longer had a company.
He did not have an accessible bank account.
He had not even paid his hospital bill yet.
Yet when Damian turned and saw the thin body trembling behind him, none of those calculations suddenly seemed important.
“How much does this girl owe?”
"One million!" The man stated the amount.
Damian swallowed. One million!
An amount he could not even afford to pay right now.
Yet Damian still spoke firmly.
“I’ll pay it.”
The man raised an eyebrow.
“One million.”
“I said I’ll pay it.”
Damian had no idea where the money would come from.
He even began to wonder whether he had lost his mind for daring to promise such a large amount of money in his current condition.
But he did not take back his words.
The girl behind him was still clutching his clothes.
And Damian could not simply hand her over.
Just as the two men were about to speak again, hurried footsteps came from the end of the corridor.
“Mr. Damian!”
Damian turned around.
Marcus appeared, breathing slightly heavily. His suit was still neat, but his face clearly showed the panic caused by Damian’s phone call.
“I drove like crazy and ran a red light! Ah, it’s been more than five minutes.”
Damian immediately grabbed him by the collar.
“Marcus.” Damian pointed toward the two men. “Pay them one million.”
Marcus frowned and froze.
“What? One million?”
“Pay them now!”
Marcus stared at Damian for several moments.
Then his eyes shifted toward the girl still hiding behind Damian.
He seemed to understand the situation immediately.
Marcus took out his phone.
“Give me the bank account number.”
The two men looked surprised.
They had not expected the man who had just claimed he would pay one hundred million to actually have someone who could produce that amount of money.
A few minutes later, the payment was completed.
Marcus showed them the transfer receipt.
“One million has been transferred. Now get out of here!”
The two men checked their phones. After confirming that the money had indeed been received, they left without saying much.
Damian let out a relieved breath.
Marcus simply stared at him strangely.
“You know, ever since I first started working for your father, I never imagined that one day I would be asked to pay one million to save a girl you don’t even know.”
Damian gave a faint smile.
“I never imagined I’d be asking you to do that either.”
Marcus sighed.
“Your father made an agreement with me a long time ago.”
“My father?”
“He once said that as long as I worked for the Blackwood family, my entire salary would be transferred and kept in my name until I actually needed it.”
Marcus chuckled softly.
“And after all these years of working for you, that savings is enough to keep me going even if I worked until I was eighty.”
Damian fell silent.
He was just about to say something when suddenly—
<Ding!>
A very familiar sound echoed inside his head.
Damian froze.
His eyes slowly widened.
A transparent blue screen appeared directly in front of his eyes.
This time, he was not hallucinating.
He was not unconscious.
And he was not imagining it.
<Good Deed System has detected the Host’s action.>
<Evaluating action.>
Damian stared at the screen without blinking.
His heart began to pound.
The system he had been treating as a hallucination all this time actually existed.
And this time, the system gave him something he had never expected.
<Congratulations, Host.>
<You have performed an act of kindness that meets the requirements.>
<Calculating Good Deed Points...>
Damian stared at the blue screen, holding his breath.
A smile slowly appeared on his face.
“So… this system really is real. But how it works?"

The burgers here are famous for being the best in this area.”Damian raised an eyebrow.“The best?”“Yes.”Angelic, who was sitting beside Damian, nodded slightly.“I've eaten here before. It was not the kind of place Damian would have

The transparent blue screen flickered before Damian’s eyes.Damian’s eyes immediately lit up.“Then let me buy shares.”Damian rubbed his chin and thought for a moment.“What companies can I buy?”The system displayed several names, along with their current share prices and financial conditions.Damian scanned through them carefully. There were several profitable companies, but none of them caught his attention. Then his eyes stopped on one particular company. It was a shopping mall that had been struggling for years. Its revenue had continued to decline, its debts were piling up, and several major tenants had already left. Based on its current condition, most investors would consider buying its shares a terrible decision.Damian, however, smiled.“I want this one.”“Why?”
