AFTER THE ACCIDENT

Then...

Ding!

A cold mechanical voice echoed through the void.

LIFE Signs Detected...

Suitable Host Found...

Scanning...

99% Compatibility Confirmed.

Ethan frowned.

"What...?"

Blue light exploded around him.

Countless glowing screens floated through the darkness.

One screen slowly moved in front of him.

It displayed only one sentence.

Congratulations, Ethan Cole.

You have been selected as the last Host of the Almighty Guardian System.

Another line appeared.

Do you wish to rewrite your fate?

Below the message...

Two glowing buttons appeared.

YES

NO

Just as Ethan reached toward the screen...

A terrifying red warning suddenly flashed across the darkness.

WARNING!

Unknown Entity Detected...

The Almighty Guardian System is under attack...

The darkness trembled.

The crimson warning spread across the endless void like blood spilling through water.

WARNING!

Ethan's heart pounded.

"What is happening? Am I... dead?"

The mechanical voice returned, calmer than before.

Host's physical body is in critical condition.

Survival probability: 2%.

His eyes widened.

"Only two percent?"

Another screen appeared before him.

Accept the Almighty Guardian System?

YES

NO

Without hesitation, Ethan slammed his hand onto YES.

The moment his finger touched the glowing button...

BOOM!

A blinding pillar of golden light erupted beneath his feet.

The darkness shattered into countless fragments.

Binding Host...

10%...

35%...

67%...

100%!

Binding Successful!

A warm current flowed through Ethan's body.

The pain in his chest vanished.

The bruises on his arms disappeared.

Even the exhaustion from years of overworking melted away.

Then...

A majestic voice echoed through the void.

Ethan blinked several times.

He selected YES.

Fireworks exploded across the blue screen.

Ethan almost choked.

"Ten... ten thousand dollars?"

He had never seen that much money in his life.

Suddenly...

His phone vibrated.

He looked down.

Even inside this strange space, his phone screen lit up.

Credit Alert

$10,003.27

"It's real..."

He couldn't believe his eyes.

For the first time in years...

He smiled.

But the smile lasted only a second.

The crimson warning returned.

This time, it was even brighter.

WARNING!

The Corrupted Shadow has breached the System.

A terrifying black hand burst from the darkness and reached toward Ethan.

Its claws were as long as swords.

Its eyes glowed with crimson flames.

It let out a horrifying roar that shook the entire space.

ROOOOOAAARRRR!!

Ethan stumbled backward.

"What... what is that?!"

The System answered immediately.

Identified.

Shadow Devourer.

Threat Level: Catastrophic.

Host cannot defeat this enemy.

Ethan swallowed hard.

"Then what do I do?"

The System replied.

Emergency Escape Initiated...

The world around him began collapsing.

The monster lunged forward.

Its claws were only inches from Ethan's face.

Everything turned white.

...

...

BEEP!

"Ethan! Can you hear me?"

His eyes snapped open.

Bright hospital lights blinded him.

A nurse was checking his pulse.

"You were unconscious after a terrible accident. You're lucky to be alive because she brought you here on time."

Ethan slowly sat up.

Was it all just a dream?

Then...

DING!

A familiar blue screen appeared in front of him.

Main Mission Activated.

Leave the hospital within one hour.

Reward: Hidden Guardian Skill.

Failure: The Shadow Devourer will locate you.

At that exact moment...

The lights in the hospital room flickered.

Outside his door...

A slow, heavy set of footsteps echoed down the hallway.

THUD...

THUD...

THUD...

Then the System displayed one final line:

Warning

... It has found you.

Ethan has awakened with the System, but the Shadow Devourer may have followed him into the real world. Who—or what—is walking toward his hospital room?

  • The Woman Behind the Door

Chapter 35: "Ethan..." The voice came again. Soft. Faint. Almost like a memory. But Ethan knew it. His mother's voice. He stood frozen before the Guardian Vault. For years, he had convinced himself that he had accepted her death. He had buried the memories. He had learned to live without her. And now, after all these years, that familiar voice had returned. "Ethan..." He stepped toward the door. Sophia immediately caught his arm. "Wait." Ethan looked at her. "That's my mother." "You don't know that." "I know her voice." Sophia didn't release him. "And we just learned that someone may be manipulating the Guardian network." Ethan's expression tightened. She was right. Everything surrounding the Vault was suspicious. M

  • The Woman in the Photograph

Chapter 34: Ethan didn't sleep. He spent the entire night sitting in the control room. The words continued repeating in his mind. Your mother never died. It was impossible. At least, that's what he had always believed. He remembered the funeral. The flowers. The black clothes. His father's tears. The photograph placed beside the coffin. He remembered being told that she had died from an illness. He had been too young to understand. But now... Everything was suddenly questionable. At six in the morning, Sophia found him. She didn't say anything at first. She simply placed a cup of coffee beside him. Ethan looked up. "You heard." Sophia nodded. "I heard." "What do you think?" She sat beside him. "I think we need evidence." Ethan looked toward the screen. "I know." "Not hope." "Not rumors." "Evidence." He nodded. "You're right." Sophia smiled. "You're learning." Ethan gave her a tired look. "You say that a lot." "Because it's true." Grace entered t

Chapter 33: Ethan couldn't move. For several seconds, he simply stared. Marcus Vale stood in the dimly lit warehouse as if he belonged there. His black coat was perfectly dry despite the rain outside. His expression was calm. Almost amused. And beside him stood Lily. But it wasn't Lily's presence that frightened Ethan the most. It was the fact that Marcus was standing inside the shelter's outer security zone. A place no outsider should have been able to enter. Sophia immediately stepped in front of Ethan, her spear glowing faintly. "Stay behind me." Marcus smiled. "Still protective, I see." Sophia's expression hardened. "How did you get inside?" Marcus didn't answer. Instead, he loo
