By nine o'clock the next morning, the sun shone brightly over Pier 14. The lingering storm clouds had passed, revealing a clean, blue sky.

Inside the large conference room on the ground floor of Northwind Logistics, twenty men sat around a long wooden table. They were the senior truck drivers, warehouse supervisors, and maintenance chiefs of Sector 109—men whose hands were calloused from decades of hard work.

At the head of the table sat Adrian Veyron.

He wore a clean dark suit, and on his right index finger, the dark iron Sovereign Ring gleamed softly under the lights. Beside him stood Lawyer Winston, holding his mahogany cane, while Director Thomas sat to his right with a stack of financial documents.

The room was completely quiet. The veteran workers looked at Adrian with a mixture of curiosity and deep respect, having heard how he brought the arrogant Sterling family to their knees.

"Gentlemen," Adrian began, his voice quiet, clear, and commanding immediate attention. "For three years, Northwind Logistics has been surviving on scraps because corrupt companies choked our supply routes."

The senior maintenance chief, an old man named Jack, nodded heavily. "That is true, Tuan Adrian. Ironclad and the Sterling Group kept cutting our transport rates until we couldn't even afford replacement tires."

Adrian tapped his finger against the wooden table. "That ends today. Under our new structure, we are completely abandoning the old bidding system and will no longer beg large conglomerates for cheap contracts."

"What will we do instead, Young Master?" Jack asked, leaning forward with a curious frown.

The workers exchanged confused glances as Thomas held up a new corporate blueprint. "Tuan Adrian authorized a complete restructuring of our business model," Thomas explained proudly. "Northwind will establish an exclusive transport grid for small independent businesses across the western industrial zone."

"Second," Winston chimed in, stepping forward, "we are raising baseline wages for all drivers by forty percent, effective immediately. Furthermore, full medical coverage for your families will be handled through a private trust fund."

Gasps of disbelief echoed around the table, and several old drivers looked at each other with wide eyes.

"A forty percent raise?" Jack stammered, his voice trembling. "Tuan Adrian, where will we get the capital for higher wages when our bank account was almost empty yesterday?"

Adrian pulled out a clean, sealed document signed by Winston. "The two hundred thousand dollars cash delivered by Raymond Sterling last night has been placed directly into the employee wage reserve," Adrian said smoothly.

"And what about operational expansion?" Thomas added, glancing at the drivers with a warm smile. "How do we buy those replacement tires?"

"A private investment of one million dollars from Atlas Capital was deposited into our capital expansion account this morning," Adrian answered quietly.

The conference room erupted into loud cheers and emotional applause. Old drivers clapped each other on the back, while Jack wiped his eyes with his sleeve.

Adrian stood up slowly, and the room instantly fell quiet again.

"Money alone will not keep us alive, gentlemen," Adrian said, his gray eyes locking onto every man in the room. "We win because we are reliable, so every shipment must arrive on time and every driver must operate with complete honesty."

"What happens if someone steps out of line?" Jack asked, his expression turning serious as he looked at the crew.

"If any man takes a bribe or steals cargo, he leaves this compound permanently," Adrian replied coldly. "Do I have your word?"

"YOU HAVE OUR WORD, YOUNG MASTER!" the twenty veterans shouted in unison, their voices thundering through the building.

The rain over Pier 14 grew heavier as midnight approached, turning the ground near the main iron gate into a sea of cold mud.Outside the fence, Raymond Sterling stood under a small umbrella bought from a nearby gas station. His expensive leather shoes were completely ruined, soaked through with muddy water. His loose jaw bandage hung near his chin, and his arms trembled as he gripped a heavy black briefcase containing two hundred thousand dollars in cash. For three long hours, Raymond stood outside the gate in the cold rain. Every time he tried to shout at the booth, the two dock workers inside simply turned up their radio, ignoring him."Open the gate!" Raymond screamed, his voice hoarse from the wind. "I am Raymond Sterling, CEO of the Sterling Group! I have your money!"Finally, the heavy iron gate clicked open with a loud metallic groan.Director Thomas stepped out, wearing a thick raincoat over his faded blue uniform. The construction site of the Sterling Group’s flagship project lay silent.Dozens of towering cranes stood frozen against the sky. Heavy concrete mixers sat parked along the perimeter, the wet cement inside slowly hardening into rock. Over fifty hired workers sat on crates near the gate, arguing loudly with the site foreman.Inside the temporary site office, the air was hot and suffocating.Raymond Sterling slammed both fists onto the plastic table, knocking over architectural plans. His face was red, his eyes bloodshot, and his jaw bandage was soaked with sweat."What do you mean they refuse to pour the foundation?!" Raymond roared at his chief site engineer. "I paid your crew three days ago!""You paid our base wages, CEO Raymond!" the engineer shouted back, wiping grease from his forehead. "You didn't pay the material transport fees! The cement fact

  • 14. The Quiet Current

The afternoon sun hung low over the western mill district, casting long shadows across the old brick walls. Unlike the busy financial center with its tall towers, this area relied on real, hard work. Rows of heavy looms hummed inside the factories, turning raw cotton into finished cloth.A modest building near the edge of the district bore a wooden sign reading Veyron & Sterling Garments.Inside the small office, Elena stood before a wooden packing table with her sleeves rolled up. Her hair was tied back in a loose knot, and her face looked pale with fatigue. For three days, she had worked fourteen-hour shifts to run her independent clothing line after leaving her brother’s chaotic office.Beside her, Chloe sat on a metal stool, staring miserably at a stack of unpaid bills. Dark circles showed under her eyes where heavy makeup used to be."Elena," Chloe muttered, her voice whining softly. "The fabric supplier just called again. The front desk phones rang endlessly. Local drivers and port contractors called to verify the morning news, as regional manager Haryo Prasetyo had just been arrested for corporate bribery.Upstairs in the director’s office, Adrian stood near the window with his hand resting in his pocket. He gently brushed his thumb against his father’s old watch. Outside, four heavy Northwind trucks rolled smoothly out of the main gate with steady engines.Behind him, Director Thomas hung up the landline with trembling hands. "The port authority officially released the hold on our remaining trucks," Thomas reported, holding a stack of delivery manifests. "Ironclad's local accounts are frozen, and their r
