16. The Hidden Quest [I]

Ryan was too unconcerned to listen to Teagan's boasting, so he said, "Stop talking nonsense, aren't we fighting a boss? Let's go, and level up quickly after we're done."

"Hmm. Let's go, the boss is probably inside, eating. Look, there's smoke coming out of there." As he spoke, Teagan pointed to the goblin camp not far away.

Actually, they received this quest quite by chance, because the old NPC wouldn't appear until all the nearby goblin warriors had been wiped out. However, the players who had come to level up here in the past two days had moved on to other areas before the goblin warriors were cleared out. Therefore, no one had accepted the quest.

The three followed the direction and entered the goblin camp a few minutes later. To their confirmation, there was a boss wandering around inside. There was also a dilapidated black pot on the ground with a fire burning underneath, and a human skeleton was cooking in the pot.

When they looked at the boss's attributes again, they were stunned.

Attack: 350

Defense: 320

Skill 1: Berserk

Skill 2: Consecutive Thrusts

The goblin overlord carried a long spear, was tall and had a ferocious face; he was terrifying to look at.

Ryan and Bloodshot were both starting to worry. The boss had a whopping 24,000 HP and 320 defense. Could they even take it down?

Teagan disagreed. He was a Destruction Warlock, a class specializing in fighting bosses. Although he had fewer skills in the early game, his Plague Poison Array was enough to give the boss a hard time.

"Teagan, let's not fight anymore. The three of us can't handle it." Ryan was trying to back down. He wasn't afraid, but he felt that the difference in strength between himself and the boss was too great.

"It'd be a shame not to fight it. A level 25 boss, the equipment it drops can sell for a fortune. No worries, I'm here." Then, Teagan asked Bloodshot, "Beautiful lady, what's your defense?"

"A little over 200, and that's with defensive skills." Bloodshot's words were true; Guardian-style warriors do have high defense, and the main source of defense comes from skills and battle shields.

How much health do you have?

"Around 2000, that's after adding skills that increase health."

"That's about enough. You should be able to tank the monsters, hm?"

"I don't know, and I've never fought a boss."

"Okay, let's give it a try. You and Ryan switch weapons to increase your damage output and hold aggro."

Bloodshot glanced at Ryan, and the two remained silent, but obediently exchanged weapons. Bloodshot's weapon was a level 15 green sword with an attack power of 18-50 and an additional 10 points of strength. It was far inferior in attributes to Ryan's Ghostly Blade.

Teagan explained, "Ryan, you have a Berserk skill that increases critical hit rate and critical hit damage, so it doesn't matter if your weapon is a bit weak. Ice Heart Dancer, you're currently equipped with a blue weapon, which significantly increases your attack power, so you must maintain aggro."

"My damage output is low! What if I can't hold them off?" Bloodshot knew her own limitations. If she couldn't hold them off, all three of them would die.

"If you can hold it, you attack first. I'll use the poison array to weaken the boss's attributes, and we'll definitely be able to hold it. Ryan, watch the right moment to unleash your ultimate skill. Don't join the battle. If the boss attacks you, run away. Don't let the aggro shift."

"Okay, I'll try my best."

"It's settled then, I'll go first." Teagan may appear rough and tough on the surface, but he was actually very intelligent. His idea was to slowly wear down the boss, which has at least a 50% success rate.

Immediately, Teagan strode forward, closing the distance to the boss to less than five yards. Suddenly, he unleashed a Plague Poison Array, and a purple poison banner stood beside the boss, its purple mist slowly spreading and rising. The boss immediately became alert, turned around, roared, and charged furiously at Teagan.

Teagan was shocked and turned to run, but the boss was already upon him, his spear thrusting straight at Teagan, piercing his heart and killing him instantly. Before dying, he cursed, "Fuck him!"

Ryan and Bloodshot were stunned, never expecting the boss to attack so quickly. Before they could even react, the boss was already upon them, sweeping its spear horizontally, and Ryan was also killed. 

Bloodshot was reduced to almost no health and immediately turned and ran. The boss chased after her relentlessly for a while, but couldn't catch up with her, and then gave up.

Bloodshot narrowly escaped, her heart pounding for a long time.

At this time, Teagan and Ryan returned to the city one after another, reborn with great pain.

Teagan was furious and cursed, "Damn it, what a pathetic death!"

Ryan was even more discouraged and advised, "I told you it wouldn't be easy to fight, but you didn't believe me."

"We have to fight, even if it's tough. Let's go back."

"..." Ryan couldn't persuade Teagan otherwise, so the two of them rushed back, only to find Bloodshot standing next to the NPC elder waiting for them.

"Are you alright?" Ryan asked as he walked over.

"I'm lucky I survived." Bloodshot was still shaken; it was the first time she had ever encountered such a formidable boss.

"It's good that you're alright. Let's go and continue fighting."

"Still want to fight?"

"Teagan is unwilling to give up, and I think it would be a real shame not to fight."

"Then, let's go." 

The three returned to the goblin camp.
