He didn't realize there was someone also in the kitchen with the kid.

“It tastes heavenly, Aliyah … you're beginning to cook like a pro. Even better than me.”

Miller heard the maid who was at the other corner say after tasting the food.

It was then that it dawned on him that this malnourished looking kid was the one who prepared the food she was dishing into the bowl; and Paxton was upstairs, telling her not to serve herself after all her efforts?!

This got Miller frowning. Especially since he had a hunch that the girl was related to the Grant family.

“No, what if sir Paxton checks my mouth?” Aliyah shook her head, rejecting the small portion of food the maid handed over to her.

“Eat it fast, he won't find out.” The maid had this sorry look in her eyes as she said to Aliyah. “There's no bread to give you tonight as sir Paxton had hid the keys to the locker.”

“Where is my mummy? I wanna go to her.” Aliyah said almost in tears as she wiped the sweat off her face.

It was obvious she was scared of Paxton.

“Your mum said she will come get you as soon as she gets enough cash to feed you.” The maid sighed, “Sir Paxton is really the devil himself. I'm sure your mum thinks you're being fed here.”

Aliyah's stomach growled, as she devoured the food in front of her. Though it was little, it was better than nothing.

Miller felt something in his heart as he watched the kid.

Just then, they all started hearing voices and footsteps on the stairs. Though Miller didn't stand where he could easily be seen, Paxton stormed into the kitchen with an irritated frown.

“Paxton..” Miller muttered as the man walked past him into the kitchen.

Even after six years, Paxton only grew taller with littles changes in his body. He was still as hot tempered and brutal as before.

“What the fuck are you eating?!” Paxton questioned, his voice cold.

“It's not what…what…” Aliyah hid the bowl behind her, her eyes darting from the maid to Paxton.

“It's the noodles her mother got her.” The maid said confidently. She didn't seem that afraid of him.

“I didn't ask you, so swallow your tongue!” Paxton barked at the maid before turning to Aliyah .

“You little thief! You indeed have a death wish…” Paxton knew she had the bowl of chicken soup he told her not to eat. “Give that to me!” He tried to collect the bowl from Aliyah.

Aliyah struggled, “You're a wicked man!”

Paxton chuckled, “That's actually a compliment. You know who's really wicked? Your dead father and your mother for ruining the Grant family's name by opening her legs for a pauper!”

Paxton continued, “Who the hell gave you the food?!” He asked Aliyah who turned to look at the maid; then it dawned on Paxton who gave her something to eat.

“Mira! My instructions were to never give this ‘mistake’ any food even if she was dying! How dare you go against my orders!” Paxton spat, his hand grabbing Mira's neck, trying to suffocate her.

“She was… starting to get… even more skinny… I couldn't…” Mira struggled to pull his palm away from her neck.

“You're evil!” Aliyah ran over to Paxton, pulling his legs, trying to pull him away from Mira.

At the moment Paxton looked down at the little kid, Aliyah opened her mouth and threw her saliva on Paxton's face, “Stop hurting her, you're evil!”

Frowning, Paxton used his other hand and forcefully yanked the bowl from Aliyah’s hold before smashing it on the floor.

He pushed Mira off, poured his saliva on the scattered food then he grabbed Aliyah, “Now have your meal from the floor! Eat them! Drink the soup, you ‘mistake’!” Paxton ordered Aliyah as he pointed at the broken bowl and chicken sauce on the floor.

“I don't want to.” Aliyah shook her head in tears.

Paxton stepped on the chicken several times. “I added more spice, now eat! Both of you!” He added, “An objection means death… so eat!”

“I wish you weren't my mummy's brother! You're bad!” Aliyah cried as if giving in and ready to eat.

Hearing this, Miller froze at the spot. The kid was Megan's daughter? ‘What?’ He thought. His mouth widened in shock… isn't Megan part of the Grant family? Isn't it insane that Paxton was treating his niece like a poor outsider?

“Wait… she got married to someone else while I was at the battlefield?” Miller chuckled dryly, pain evidence on his face.

He shrugged with a red eye… what should he have expected? She never promised not to move on with another man and have kids for him.

Their marriage was a deal after all… why did he think she could wait until he was back? Miller scolded himself.

Miller narrowed his eyes at the moment his eyes and Mira's eyes locked in. She heaved a sigh of relief and immediately turned to Paxton, “Aunty Megan's husband will not like the torture you're inflicting on his daughter!” She yelled, her voice sharp.

“Hahahaha!” Paxton let out a mocking laugh, “Megan's husband?” He laughed even more, “Didn't you get the memo? That penniless moron was long dead on the battlefield!”

Aliyah shook her head, “My dad is not dead!”

“Shut up, brat! You've got no dad! If only your mother agreed into taking you out before you were formed, then birthing you would have been avoided!”

Hearing this, Miller's heart sank. The skinny and malnourished looking kid was his daughter with Megan?

Fuck!

How the fuck did it come to this for Paxton whom he took his place in the battlefield to inflict such pain on his daughter?!

His eyes darkened and he was consumed with rage and anger.

“You're stuck here with me, eat or killing you wouldn't…” Just as Paxton was about to say, he heard a voice behind him.

“Son of a bitch…” Miller launched at Paxton. He was fast as lightning as he kicked Paxton, sending him flying and his back hitting the wall.

“Ah!”

Miller carried the little kid in his hands, then his eyes got a clearer view of the mark on Aliyah's neck, it was the same he had on his neck. It was what differentiated him and his twin, his birthMark.

“Don't hurt me too… put me down please.” Aliyah lowered her head, her voice trembling.

Miller could tell his daughter was scared of what he just did to Paxton.

“Relax baby, I won't hurt you… in fact…no one will ever hurt you.” Miller said calmly. Having his own child in his arms sent jolts of happiness through his body.

Megan had given him a daughter…. Turns out that night had a better outcome even if Megan hated him for that.

“And how the fuck did you sneak in here? Are you nuts or have you lost your mind, walking into the Grant mansion to intrude?” Paxton roared, getting up from the floor, “Who the fuck are you?!”

Don't make me do what you'd regret!” He barked breathlessly. “Calm down.. there’s nothing you can do.. you’re locked up in here! What? You want the company to suffer by your absence? Even with your presence, it will be worse..” She retorted. “I don’t give a fuck, mum!” He slams his fist on the table, his hands trembling rapidly as he points it at her, “I wouldn’t hesitate to do to him what you did to our father years ago! Mark my words! I’ll be back and you will have no one else to blame but yourself!” She snaps back to reality, raising her head to look Miller in the eye. As much as she wanted him to take over The Dalton's assets, she feared it might just be the beginning of something disastrous. Miller’s chance to rise within the Dalton family depended entirely on how he handled the new company in South River. If he failed, the door would close forever. If he succee

If the wine was fake, their family might be kicked out of the Thompson lineage for good. Grandma examined the wine—slow, deliberate. Then she spoke. “This is real.” Everyone froze. Adele stiffened. “Grandma… are you sure? Miller—” “How dare you doubt me?” her voice cracked like a whip. “Are you suggesting I’m too old to see for myself? If I say it's authentic then it is.” Ethan released a shaky breath, stunned by his own luck. His grandmother wasn’t senile—far from it. She simply refused to disgrace her favored grandson. Blood before truth. Miller opened his mouth. “Grandma, please look again. This wine—” “That’s enough!” she snapped. “Apologize to Ethan immediately. Stop spouting nonsense.” A relative added smugly, “Miller, don’t make Grandma angry. You’ve caused enough trouble and confusion tonight.” Mil

The smoke curled upward, soft but unable to soften the cold knot in his chest, “I said I’d kill him if he tried to find us.. but that asshole.. he came looking with no fear, so he was killed.. not by me, but by my mother.” The old steward’s voice shook as he followed behind. “Young master, If you don’t return, the Dalton family will collapse. • 💐 Dearest Reader,

Hey everyone, I know you saw "the end" at the close of the last chapter, and at the time, I truly thought that was it. But one character refused to leave my mind—Miller. I kept thinking about him in different circumstances, facing new challenges, surrounded by new people. So I made the decision to bring him back, but in a completely different story. What you're about to read isn't a continuation of where we left off. It's a fresh narrative with new characters, new conflicts, and a new journey. Miller is the only familiar face you'll see, and even he's in a very different place now. If you're here for more of his story, welcome. If this isn't what you were expecting, I completely understand—but I hope you'll give it a chance anyway because a new chapter of the story begins here, with higher stakes, deeper emotions, and consequences that unfold beyond what we once thought was the finish line for Miller.
