"Hey, lazybones, get up and take me to the market!"

Martin lazily opened his eyes as a kick landed squarely on his back. It was December 24th — most companies in the country were off for Christmas.

Since he had nothing to do today, Martin decided to go back to sleep.

After all, ever since Quinn asked for a divorce last night, he hadn’t been able to close his eyes until dawn.

"Why are you just lying there? Get up! If you’re not downstairs in five minutes, you’ll regret it!"

Catherine stormed out of her daughter’s room, scolding loudly.

"Yes, Mother. I’ll be right there," Martin muttered, rubbing his back and pretending to be hurt. But his thoughts were elsewhere.

“Why did Quinn say that last night?”

Still lying on the thin carpet — the same spot that had been his bed since the day he moved into this house — Martin lifted his head toward the bed above him.

It was empty.

Since today was a holiday, Quinn should still be resting.

Last night, after saying she wanted a divorce, she had simply lain down without another word. Normally, she would throw at least a complaint or two at him.

This time, she hadn’t even let him speak a single sentence.

But there was something else Martin had to do.

“Ah, right. I should transfer the money from this watch to my account.”

Still a bit uncertain, he decided to try sending just one million dollars first.

"Ah, no. That doesn’t seem enough."

Martin vaguely recalled from last night’s conversation that Quinn was in need of money. He had to take out enough to really help her.

"Yeah, one billion. That should be more than enough."

Without wasting another second, Martin pressed the button on his watch to complete the transfer.

Ding!

“Transfer successful.”

"What? It’s real? It’s really real? Hahaha!"

Overjoyed, Martin leapt from the carpet so hard he nearly hit the ceiling.

But his excitement didn’t last long — Catherine’s shrill voice echoed from downstairs.

"You useless man! Why aren’t you downstairs yet? I said now!"

"Yes, Mother! I’m coming!"

Martin threw on a pair of pants without changing his worn-out shirt and headed downstairs.

There, he saw Lucas, lounging on the sofa, laughing while playing games on his phone. That boy did nothing but play games and flirt with women.

"Sis, you made the right decision listening to Mom. Don’t worry, that man will definitely make our lives better," Lucas said smugly.

A man? His mother-in-law was introducing another man to Quinn?

Martin ignored Lucas and turned his gaze to the woman sitting at the far end of the sofa. Despite her beauty, sadness was written all over her face.

"Quinn, are you going to the hospital?" Martin asked, pausing mid-step.

"Let me take you there."

For the past three years, Martin had always driven Quinn to work — though no one knew they were married, since they arrived separately.

"No. I’m not going to the hospital. And besides, you don’t need to care about me anymore. We’re getting divorced soon."

Thud!

Hearing those words again pierced Martin’s chest like a blade. Still, he knew Quinn only said it because of the pressure she’d endured all this time.

He said nothing — just kept walking.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered under his breath.

“After this… I’ll never make you sad again.”

Vroom! Vroom!

Just as Martin stepped outside, a blue BMW pulled up at the gate. Moments later, a man in his mid-thirties stepped out, wearing a casual gray suit and holding a bouquet of flowers.

It was Ethan Downey, the director of Havenport hospital, where Quinn worked.

"Ethan! I’m so glad you came to my humble home," Catherine beamed, opening the door wide.

After years of seeing her “useless” son-in-law, her heart fluttered again at the sight of Ethan. "Come in, Quinn’s been waiting for you."

"Thank you, ma’am. Oh, and I brought this for you."

Ethan smiled as he handed her a neatly wrapped gift.

"Oh my! You shouldn’t have! This wine must be so expensive!"

As Catherine said that, she glanced sharply at Martin — a “subtle” jab that wasn’t subtle at all.

Ethan caught the look immediately and turned toward Martin.

"Ma’am, who’s that? Is he…?"

He deliberately left the sentence hanging, eyes narrowing with disdain.

Though it was his first time here, he’d already heard about Quinn’s good-for-nothing husband. And of course, he wouldn’t miss a chance to humiliate him.

"Ah, I see. You must be the useless husband everyone talks about, huh? Honestly, if I hadn’t seen it myself, I’d never believe a woman as beautiful as Quinn would choose someone like you. No offense, but even my driver looks sharper than you."

Ethan smirked wide.

"Ethan, you don’t need to waste your energy on someone that worthless," Catherine said with a dismissive wave and a grin.

"But you’re absolutely right."

Her eyes turned coldly toward Martin.

"Look at this — your first time visiting our home, and you bring such an expensive gift. Meanwhile, this man has lived here for years and hasn’t given us a single valuable thing! I truly don’t understand how someone can be so shameless!"

Her glare burned with satisfaction as she mocked him.

"Mother, that’s enough."

Quinn suddenly stood at the doorway.

"Stop it. I’ll go with Mr. Downey now."

She walked past Martin without sparing him a glance.

"Please, after you," Ethan said politely, holding the car door for her.

Watching his wife leave with another man tore Martin’s heart apart. His fists clenched, eyes burning.

If he hadn’t promised himself to live as a civilized man, Ethan would’ve lost both his legs and arms by now.

"Hey! What are you standing there for? Get the car and take me out!"

Catherine’s shrill voice jolted him back to reality.

Without another word, he went to the garage.

Inside the car, Martin pulled out his phone and opened a tracking app.

There, a blinking dot labeled “my wife” was moving away from the neighborhood.

"Perfect. This app’s even more useful than I thought. Now I can see exactly where he is taking Quinn."

Known as the Sea House, it was where Palm Coast Enterprise held its most important executive meetings.Martin had obtained this information from Gianna. Since he wanted something significant from them, coming directly here was the most effective option. However, due to its elite nature, no one was allowed inside unless they had legitimate business.Martin continued walking forward.“Listen, I don’t like jokes—especially fro

Thirty minutes later, at Havenport South Station.“Please, sir.”Alfred opened the rear door of the black Bentayga for Martin.“No. I’ll take a taxi.”Instead, Martin headed in the opposite direction.“But, sir—”Alfred looked stunned. After all, Martin was about to meet the executives of Palm Coast Enterprise for an important business discussion.Arriving by taxi would only make them doubt him.If you arrived in a proper vehicle, at the very least, they would be willing to listen.Whatever you said afterward wouldn’t matter as much. But if you arrived in a way that failed to inspire confidence, they might not even bother listening to the first word that left your mouth—no matter how important it was.It was a small detail, but one with enormous impact.“Relax.”Martin smiled and waved his hand lightly. He understood the concierge’s concern.“I’ll get what I want.”***Meanwhile, at a hotel inside Palm Coast Resort.“You useless brat!
