Chapter 1: Collapse of the Chain

The sky above Berlin didn't darken gradually with twilight; it ripped open at precisely 3:14 PM, tearing reality apart with the sound of grinding tectonic plates and an explosion of violet light that shattered every window along the Kurfürstendamm.

Inside the central corporate logistics hub of a major multinational freight company, the alarms wailed a deafening, rhythmic staccato. Neon emergency strobes cut through the rising dust and thick, choking plumes of smoke pouring from the ruptured courtyard outside. Pandemonium had immediately swallowed the streets below. Screams echoed off concrete walls, punctuated by the heavy, unnatural roar of multi-limbed beasts tearing through armored vehicles as if they were made of wet cardboard.

Jhons Yohanes did not run to the windows to gawk, nor did he grab a fire extinguisher or a panic-button radio. As a former supply chain manager who had spent the last decade optimizing global freight routes, eliminating inventory bottlenecks, and surviving brutal corporate audits, Jhons possessed a mind wired exclusively for crisis logistics, risk mitigation, and structural preservation.

"Structural integrity of sector four is failing at twelve percent per minute," Jhons muttered to himself, his voice unnaturally calm as he adjusted the collar of his dust-covered button-down shirt. He slammed a heavy steel fire door shut, dropping the manual security latch into place with a resounding, metallic thud that temporarily muffled the slaughter unfolding outside.

He surveyed his new domain. The logistics hub was a sprawling, semi-intact concrete fortress of high-bay racking, reinforced loading docks, and automated conveyor belts. It was stocked to the rafters with three hundred crates of expired canned goods, industrial-grade shrink wrap, a fleet of four operational electric forklifts, and miles of heavy-duty nylon strapping. While the rest of the surviving populace scrambled frantically through the burning ruins of the capital, hunting for glowing mythical swords, legendary magical tomes, or divine blessings from the sky, Jhons looked at the warehouse and saw a goldmine.

Before he could even begin cataloging the remaining pallet jacks, a sharp, metallic ping echoed directly inside his skull.

System initialization sequence complete.

A blinding blue holographic screen materialized right before his eyes, floating in the smoky air with crisp, impossibly sharp typography. Jhons blinked, stepping back, but the display tracked his movement seamlessly.

Welcome, User: Jhons Yohanes, Logistics ID-04892.

Current Operating Environment: Category 9 Planetary Dissolution (Berlin, Sector 7).

Asset Valuation Initialized: The Logistic Monopoly System.

Jhons stared at the interface, his analytical eyes narrowing as he read through the incoming data streams. There were no combat statistics, no magic mana pools, no sword mastery levels, and no health bars. Instead, his retina projected a real-time inventory heatmap of the entire warehouse, complete with stock turnover rates, supply line integrity indices, regional market volatility meters, and a flashing notification in the top right corner: Active Monopoly Privilege Unlocked.

"A system," Jhons whispered, a slow, calculated smirk touching the corner of his lips. "They're handing out magical armaments and fireballs to the masses, and I get an ERP software upgrade for the apocalypse."

User possesses exclusive authority to establish centralized distribution nodes, the system chimed coolly in his mind, reacting to his thought. First-tier perk unlocked: [Supply Node Establishment]. Converting current physical enclosure into a Tax-Free Safe Zone.

Outside the heavy steel doors, the frantic pounding of desperate survivors suddenly battered the metal. Shouts, sobs, and guttural threats pierced the barrier.

"Open the door! Let us in! There are monsters out there!" a man's voice shrieked, accompanied by the desperate rattle of a crowbar against the industrial seam. "Open up or we'll break this damn thing down!"

Jhons didn't flinch. He didn't reach for a weapon. He simply tapped a glowing virtual icon on his floating interface.

Incoming entity count: Seven civilians, low equipment tier, high panic coefficient. Threat level to inventory: Moderate.

"You're welcome to enter," Jhons called out loudly, his voice carrying clearly through the reinforced steel partition. "However, entry into the Logistic Monopoly Safe Zone requires immediate contractual compliance. No weapons allowed inside the perimeter. All personal property must be cataloged and surrendered for redistribution."

The pounding abruptly stopped. A moment of stunned silence followed before a furious voice spat back through the intercom speaker. "Are you out of your mind? The city is burning! Open this door right now, you greedy bastard!"

"The city is burning precisely because nobody respected supply chain protocols," Jhons replied smoothly, tapping another command into his holographic dashboard. Dynamic pricing matrix engaged. Safe zone entry tax set to one hundred percent of current portable assets. "You have thirty seconds to accept the terms, or the entry tariff doubles."

"Screw your tariffs! We'll break this door down and take everything you have!"

Jhons sighed, shaking his head at the predictable foolishness of untrained amateurs. "Major mistake. Activating defensive perimeter protocols."

With a soft hum, the automated security shutters dropped across the loading bays, sealing every exit hermetically. The system interface updated instantly, flashing bright red warnings as the desperate survivors outside began firing a cheap pistol against the reinforced steel. The bullets pinged harmlessly off the titanium-alloy plating, their kinetic energy absorbed and logged as minor wear-and-tear data.

Warning: External hostile engagement detected. Initiating counter-measures via dynamic market manipulation.

Jhons watched with mild amusement as a secondary sub-menu popped up, displaying the economic standing and debt ledgers of the surrounding district. With a flick of his wrist, he deployed a localized supply freeze, instantly spiking the virtual value of the attackers' remaining ammunition and food reserves to astronomical heights within the system's localized market index.

A sharp, collective gasp echoed from the other side of the door as the frantic looters suddenly realized their own gear had been artificially devalued, their remaining capital drained by the system's harsh restructuring penalties.

"What... what is happening to my gear?" a terrified voice whimpered outside. "My gun—it's locked! The system says I'm bankrupt!"

"You are experiencing your first market correction," Jhons said, pressing the intercom button once more. "Your weapons have been seized as collateral for hostile property damage. You can either starve out there in the monster-infested streets, or you can sign the employment contracts sliding out of the automated delivery chute to your left, clock in as dockworkers, and earn your daily rations."

A long, agonizing pause stretched through the smoky air. Inside the warehouse, the digital ledger chimed pleasantly, signaling the processing of seven new employment contracts.

Contractual compliance achieved, the system announced cheerfully. New labor force acquired. Dockworker productivity projected to increase by forty-five percent.

Jhons pulled the manual lever, unlocking the heavy steel door just enough for a group of pale, shivering, utterly defeated survivors to crawl inside. They stared up at him not with the wild aggression of looters, but with the hollow, compliant eyes of corporate subordinates meeting a terrifying CEO for the first time.

Jhons adjusted his cuffs, his gaze sweeping over his new workforce before glancing out toward the burning, chaotic horizon of Berlin. The chain of civilization had broken, but in its place, he was going to build a monopoly.

"It’s a forced liquidation. They aren't conquering us; they're clearing out warehouse space."A massive, obsidian-framed holographic window violently materialized in the center of the command room, bathing them in a harsh, clinical white light. At the top of the interface, cold and unyielding words burned into the air: GLOBAL ASSET LIQUIDATION IN PROGRESS. REMAINING TIME: 04:12:09."And the alternative?" "In fact, our current valuation as a living species has just hit zero.""Zero?" She stepped closer, invading his space, her eyes narrowing as the violet light outside painted the concrete walls in an eerie, sickly hue. How are we valued at zero?""Because we aren't customers anymore," Jhons said grimly, tapping a frantic sequence into the holographic ledger floating before him. "We’re defaulted assets. The red lines representing his automated mortar batteries were dead, replaced by a cold, corporate status update: ASSET SEIZED BY ADMINISTRATIVE MANDATE."They didn't just stop," Jhons said, his throat tight as he watched the Commander-class beast shake off the rubble of the explosion and begin its unstoppable march toward the inner gates. If it hits the western power grid before our defensive grid is fully capitalized, our energy futures drop to zero in seconds.""Skip the stock market crash lecture, Jhons," Sierra snapped, sharply catching her spinning hunting knife by the hilt and slamming it down onto the heavy oak table. "The perimeter sensors just tripped. The vanguard of the swarm is less than three hundred meters out, and they aren't carrying trade proposals. "Check your tactical net."Viktor frowned, tapping the side of his helmet, but before he could speak, his radio crackled with a frantic voice shouting about frozen accounts and zeroed-out ammunition credits."What is this?" Viktor snarled, his eyes widening in sudden panic as his men began dropping their weapons in confusion. "You locked our logistics?!""I didn't lock them; I foreclosed on them," Jhons said, finally glancing up with a chilling, deadpan smile. "You're operating on expired debt.
