Josh looked at them all, seeing the disappointment in their faces, the sense of betrayal. These boys had followed him for years, supported him, carried out his orders. And now they felt like he'd abandoned everything they represented.

"Are you satisfied with what I did?" Josh asked quietly. "Because if you're not, if you think I'm pathetic, if you're disappointed in me—you can leave. Right now. Get lost. Find someone else to follow."

The boys exchanged uncertain glances.

"I'm the boss," Josh continued, his voice hardening. "I make the decisions. Not you. So why should I care about your opinions? Why should your satisfaction matter to me?"

The words hung in the air, cold and dismissive.

Tyler's face fell. Marcus looked down at the ground. Brandon's jaw clenched with hurt and anger. The others shuffled uncomfortably.

They'd been loyal to Josh for years. Had taken beatings for him. Had risked expulsion carrying out his orders. And this was how he repaid that loyalty? By telling them thei

"Your father died before he could groom you properly," Richard interrupted. "Left you floundering, making mistakes, relying too heavily on your wife's family connections to maintain our position in the business community."Magnus felt his face burning with humiliation. Everything they were saying—it was true. He'd struggled as patriarch. Had relied on Victoria's Wellington family connections to open doors, secure contracts, maintain their social standing. But he'd been working hard! Learning! Trying to grow into the role!"This is outrageous," Magnus said, trying to maintain his composure. "I won't stand here and be disrespected by my own family members!""Then sit down," Patricia suggested coldly. "Because we're not finished."Magnus looked desperately at his son Marcus, hoping for some filial loyalty, some defense."Marcus," Magnus said. "Son. Tell them. Tell them I'm a capable leader. That I've done well for this family."Marcus finally looked up from his phone, his expression comp

Magnus Gonzalez pulled into the circular driveway of his villa, exhaustion settling into his bones after another long day managing the family's business empire. He was looking forward to a quiet evening, maybe a glass of whiskey, some peace. But the moment he stepped through the grand double doors into his living room, he knew something was wrong. The room was filled with people. At least twenty of them, seated in chairs arranged in a semicircle like a tribunal. Members of his wife's family—the prestigious B-ranked Wellington family. Members of his own Gonzalez family—elders, cousins, influential relatives. And there, in the center of it all, sat his wife Victoria and his son Marcus.Everyone turned to look at him as he entered, their expressions ranging from smug satisfaction to cold indifference."What—" Magnus started, his briefcase still in his hand. "What's going on here? Why wasn't I informed of a family meeting?"His eyes went immediately to Victoria. He hadn't seen her in thre

Outside the classroom, in the quiet hallway, Alessia turned to face Josh. Her expression was guarded, her arms crossed defensively across her chest."Alright," Alessia said. "You wanted to apologize. You did it publicly in a way that ensures the whole campus will know about it by lunchtime. So what's your real angle here? What game are you playing?""No game," Josh insisted. "I meant every word I said in there. I'm genuinely sorry for how I treated you.""Right," Alessia said skeptically. "You harassed me for weeks. You tried to intimidate me into being your—your whatever. You conspired with Emma to have me kidnapped. And now, suddenly, you're reformed? All because my brother beat you in a fight?""Your brother showed me something," Josh said earnestly. "Showed me what real strength looks like. What real power is. I've been living my whole life thinking power meant forcing people to do what you want, using fear and money and influence to control situations."He gestured helplessly. "B

Alessia sat frozen in her seat, her mind struggling to process what had just happened. Josh Romano—the campus's most notorious bully, the entitled heir who'd made her life miserable for weeks—had just publicly apologized to her. On his knees. In front of the entire class. It was surreal. Impossible. And yet it had happened.Around her, the classroom erupted in whispers. Students leaned toward each other, their voices hushed but excited, speculating about what this meant, what had changed, whether Josh was serious or playing some elaborate game."Did you see that?""Josh Romano just apologized!""Is this real?""What happened to him?""I heard he got beaten up this morning by some guy—""No way, Josh never loses fights—"The whispers grew louder, more intrusive, pressing in on Alessia from all sides like a physical weight. She could feel dozens of eyes on her, watching for her reaction, waiting to see what she'd do next.Annoyance flared in her chest. This was exactly what she didn't w

Meanwhile, Josh pocketed his phone and headed toward his morning class—Business Management 301, a course he rarely paid attention to but maintained enrollment in to keep his father happy. He entered the classroom and immediately spotted Emma Parker sitting near the middle, her expression dark and resentful as she stared at her notebook.Josh walked directly over to her, his earlier friendly demeanor completely gone."Emma," Josh said coldly, stopping at her desk. "We need to be very clear about something."Emma looked up, startled. "Josh, I—""You failed," Josh interrupted bluntly. "You were supposed to deliver Alessia. You didn't. Our arrangement is over. Done. Finished. You get nothing from me. No money, no protection, no status. We're strangers now. Don't approach me, don't speak to me, and absolutely don't go near Alessia again."Emma's face flushed with anger and humiliation. "You're just going to abandon me? After everything I tried to do?""You didn't try," Josh said dismissive

  • CHAPTER 112 PART 1

Josh held the phone tightly, his mind racing. Of course his father knew what happened—Raymond Romano had informants everywhere on campus. Administrators, security guards, even some students on the Romano payroll. Nothing happened at Duskfort University without his father eventually hearing about it.But Josh couldn't tell the complete truth. Couldn't admit he'd been defeated so thoroughly in front of hundreds of witnesses. His father's temper was legendary—volcanic and unpredictable. Admitting he'd been humiliated would invite punishment, disappointment, possibly even being pulled from the university entirely. So Josh made a quick decision. He'd tell a version of the truth. One that was close enough to reality but edited to protect himself."Father, I met someone incredible today," Josh started, keeping his voice steady. "A martial arts expert unlike anyone I've ever encountered. He demonstrated some techniques—showed me and my security detail what real combat skill looks like. It was
