The afternoon sun was blazing hot while Elijah dragged his bruised and battered body down the hot road. He was wandering aimlessly through the city streets, feeling like his life had completely lost its direction in the middle of nowhere.

Every single word Kathy had said to him at the gates kept echoing inside his mind over and over again, like a painful nightmare. The woman he had done everything for... the woman he had slaved away for day and night... had so little regard for him!

She had thrown his silver ring into the dirt like it was nothing. But what she didn't know was that Elijah had been secretly saving every single penny in his bank account for the past year.

He had been skipping meals just to save enough money to buy her a real diamond ring and replace the gold-plated one with lab-grown diamonds that he had originally given her.

But she didn't want to stay by his side at all! And why would she? She was getting everything she ever wanted through her new boyfriend. Jordan Langford was buying her luxury designer bags, expensive clothes, and taking her everywhere without even thinking twice.

Elijah felt completely lost in his thoughts, when suddenly, a loud engine roared agressively, right before a shiny luxury car sped right past Elijah at full speed!

SPLASH!

Thick, dirty mud from a nearby puddle flew into the air, splashing Elijah completely from head to toe, clearly done on purpose.

Elijah wiped the muddy water from his face, his chest heaving with a sudden burst of anger.

“Hey! What the hell—!”

Elijah roared out at the top of his lungs, glaring down the street. The car screeched to a halt just a few feet away. Slowly, the driver's side window rolled down.

Before Elijah could say another word, something came flying right out of the open window and hit Elijah straight on the chest. It bounced off his sore ribs and dropped into the dirty puddle near his feet.

It was a crumpled, empty can of Coke.

"Oops! My bad!"

A loud, mocking voice came from inside the car. Jordan leaned his head out of the window, a wide, arrogant smirk on his face as he looked at Elijah.

"Sorry about that, buddy!" Jordan sneered loudly. "I completely mistook you for a trash can! Right now, covered in mud, you definitely fit the description.”

From the passenger window, Kathy also leaned out, holding her designer sunglasses in her hand. She looked at Elijah’s mud-soaked, pathetic state and smirked.

"Oh, Jordan, don't be so harsh on my poor ex-husband! Look at him, he looks so helpless!"

“You're right, babe! You're way too kind!" Jordan scoffed arrogantly. He reached into his coat, pulled out a thick wad of money, and carelessly threw the cash straight out the window.

The money scattered all over the road, fluttering around Elijah’s feet.

"Since my baby Kathy is so kind, I'll do you a favor. Pick it up, leech! Go buy yourself a decent meal so you don't starve on the street!"

Kathy giggled, "Take it, Elijah! It's more money than you'll ever see in this life.

They both were enjoying every second of his humiliation.

Elijah’s jaw tightened so hard his teeth hurt. His blood boiled with anger. He looked down at the crumpled Coke can, and then at the dirty cash scattered in the sludge.

Elijah bent down and picked up the crumpled can in one hand and gathered the wad of money in the other.

"Aww, look! He's actually picking it up!" Kathy laughed out loud, clapping her hands. "What an obedient beggar.”

"Money always works on trash like him!"

Jordan sneered.

Elijah stood up straight, his eyes locking onto Jordan’s face. Without a single word, Elijah threw the Coke can as well as the wad of money straight back in through the open car window, landing all over the clean leather seats.

"I don't need your trash, and I don't need your cash!" Elijah shouted firmly. “You can have it all back!"

"MY CAR!!" Kathy shrieked in horror, looking at the muddy mess on her clothes and the seats. "JORDAN, LOOK WHAT HE DID!!"

Jordan’s eyes had the look of a murderer as he growled angrily, his temper exploding.

"You little piece of shit! I'm going to show you what you really deserve!"

He unlocked his car door, pushed it open and tried to get out of the car to beat Elijah up.

BANG!!

Out of nowhere, the heavy car door suddenly banged shut with violent force, hitting Jordan hard, right on his nose and forehead.

"AAAGHH! MY NOSE!!"

Jordan yelled in shock and pain, clutching his face as blood started trickling out.

"Oh my god! Jordan!!"

Kathy immediately started fussing over him. She grabbed some tissues and tried to stop the bleeding, blaming Elijah for everything even though he was standing far away from the car.

"You psycho! You did this to him! You cursed us!!"

Jordan was completely blinded by rage now. He pushed Kathy away and decided to get out of the car again to thrash Elijah properly. He shoved the door wide open and stepped out onto the street, his fists clenched tight.

CRACK!

The very moment Jordan stepped out of the car, his ankle suddenly twisted awkwardly after taking his very first step!

"AAAAAH!"

Jordan let out a loud scream of pain as his leg gave out. He lost his balance completely and fell forward, crashing right at Elijah’s feet!

He lay there on the hard ground, holding his swollen ankle and groaning in pain, face-down in the dirt right before the man he tried to bully.

Elijah looked down at him, a cold smirk appearing on his face.

"Looks like you're finally in your right place. This is where you should be after snatching someone's wife by dangling your wealth in front of her."

"You... I'll kill you..." Jordan wheezed, but he couldn't even stand up properly.

Kathy quickly scrambled out of the car, looking terrified. She bent down and helped Jordan get up, hooking his arm over her shoulder while he groaned in pain.

"Jordan, please! Let him go!" Kathy coaxed him, trying to pull him back toward the car. "He isn't worth wasting your time over! Look at your foot, we need to go!"

But Jordan still completely confused about how all of this had happened so fast. How did the door slam? How did his ankle twist so easily? He couldn't figure it out at all…

Kathy started the engine and drove off in a hurry, leaving a cloud of dust behind.

Elijah was quietly watching Kathy support Jordan as they left together. His face was emotionless, but his heart felt completely heavy.

"Is that man troubling you?"

A calm, voice suddenly came from behind him.

Elijah turned around quickly to see Mia standing there. She looked at him with a serious expression and added, "Should I make him disappear from the face of the earth?"

Elijah stared at her, completely confused and exhausted.

"Who the hell are you?! Why are you bothering me?! I don't even know you!"

"Master, we are only trying to help—" Mia started to say.

"I don't need your help!" Elijah interrupted harshly, waving his hand at her. "Just leave me alone!"

Saying this, Elijah turned around and walked away as fast as his injured legs could carry him, leaving her behind in the street.

I knew it!"She turned her head to look at the old man floating right beside her, whom she addressed as Master Caleb, and teased him with a mischievous grin."Master Caleb, you must be enjoying this immensely, right?" Mia giggled, though her face looked a little pale. "Knowing full well that I have a terrible fear of heights and get dizzy whenever I'm floating in the air like this!"Master Caleb retorted dryly, glaring at her while floating awkwardly in his formal suit. "I have been teaching you for years, Mia, and you still haven't learned a single thing about composure!"Elijah, staring at the two of them suspended completely in midair three feet off the ground, backed away until his shoulders hit a nearby lamp post. Tears of pure frustration welled up in his eyes, but his voice was full of deep resentment and exhaustion."I told you both plain and simple—I am completely broke!" Elijah yelled at the top of his lungs, his voice echoing down the empty street. "I don't have a single penny to give to anyone! Not to you, not to Kathy, not to anybody! If anything, if you two take one look at my bank balance right now, you'd be the ones handing me money out of sheer pity! I don't even have six cents left to my name!!"He threw his head back and laughed at the absolute absurdity of the situation. Here he was, covered in dried mud and blood, being followed by two strangers talking about his useless locket as if it were made of solid gold."So

Josie stepped out into the hallway, holding a thin gold chain with an old, strange-looking metal pendant attached to it.She walked past her furious sister and handed Elijah the chain and the locket. She had seen it lying in the back of Kathy's drawer earlier, and now she was giving it back to him so that he would leave her sister's life forever."Here," Josie said softly, her face neutral as she placed the cool metal into Elijah’s trembling, open palm. "Take it and just leave."Kathy’s eyes went wide with sudden rage. She got extremely irritated and scolded her sister loudly right there in the open hallway."Josie!! What the hell are you doing?!" Kathy screamed, trying to snatch the locket back, but Elijah quickly pulled his hand away and clutched the locket tightly against his chest. "Why are you giving him anything?! Are you out of your mind?!"Josie didn't back down. She looked her older sister dead in the eye and didn't change her stance at all."He was just earning his mo

He didn't have the courage to go back home and face Kathy after everything that had happened, nor did he have anywhere else in the city to go. In the morning, he finally picked himself up and made his way towards their apartment, hoping that he might talk to Kathy for the last time, or at least get his wallet and belongings from there so he could survive. His body ached with every step, but he forced himself to walk up the stairs. But just as he turned the corner near their door, he froze in his tracks. There were several large, black trash bags placed right at the door of the apartment. Kathy was standing there, dusting her hands over one of the plastic bags with an expression of disgust on her face. Elijah swallowed hard, his voice raspy as he spoke up. "Kathy... why are there so many trash bags here?" Kathy turned her head with an icy glare. "I had to put your stuff somewhere, after all. Now you

He reached his hand through the cold metal bars of the gate, his fingers trembling in the air toward her. "Why are you doing this? Why do you want to leave me like this? She stood on the marble porch beside Jordan, her arms crossed tightly over her chest, her lips pulled back into a look of absolute disgust."Kathy, think about everything we went through!" Elijah pleaded, tears spilling over his bruised cheeks as the memories came rushing back. "Think about college! We spent such good times together... those were the best years of our lives!
