It was not his mother.

Christian could barely lift his head before his father’s hand gripped his hair, yanking him roughly out of the room, "come out, you bastard!"

Morris was furious after watching Christian sleeping, as he wanted Christian to repent for his mistakes.

The sharp, piercing pain was extreme, but worse than that was the familiar feeling of helplessness that passed through him, almost numbing the silent agony.

As he stumbled behind Morris, tripping over his own feet, his heart bled within his chest.

"So, do you realize your mistake or not?" Morris growled in a furious tone pushing Christian on to the floor, "What do you have to say for yourself, you useless little wretch?"

Christian looked at Morris. He had no strength left, but his eyes were full of hatred. "I didn’t… I didn’t do anything!"

The words barely got out of Christian's throat before Morris swung a baseball bat to hit him. Christian's breath left him in a harsh gasp, pain piercing through his ribs. He curled like a ball on the ground, clutching his side, as the pain was unbearable.

"Don’t lie to me!" Morris shouted, standing over him with the bat clenched in his fists, ready to strike once again again. Teresa, who stood nearby, crossed her arms with a smirk on her face, as if she was ready to be entertained by the scene in front of her.

"Serves him right," she sneered coldly, flipping her hair, "Little brat thinks he can get away with everything, just because he is the son of that bitch, like mother, like son, leechers of this house."

Christian's blood boiled hearing to Terresa's words, if possible he wanted to fight back but his vision was already starting to get blurred.

Through that dizziness, he saw Ivan approaching Morris with an innocent face along with fake pity, "Dad, please stop it, maybe… maybe that’s enough for today's punishment, please don't blame Chris, it's all my fault."

Ivan said softly, though his eyes were sparkling out of satisfaction after witnessing the suffering of Christian.

"Aish, look at you my sweet boy," Morris smiled, with a soft expression as he is looking proud by the kindness of Ivan, "So forgiving and kind, but this fucking idiot? No, he lacks proper discipline, it's all because of that useless woman's upbringing," he turned back to Christian who was barely opening his eyes, "You think you can just lie to my face and escape from this? It has been 3 days, and you didn't realize your fault! No, I'll make sure to teach you a lesson today!"

Before Christian could say anything, Morris grabbed him by the collar and dragged him outside.

The cold winter air hit him hard, passing through his thin shirt, as a chilling shiver started straight from his spine.

Snowflakes whirled around, but all he could feel was the rough gravel as Morris forced him down, his knees scraping against the icy ground.

"Kneel down," Morris ordered, with a disdain filled with voice, "Maybe a night out here with kneeling, will teach you some respect, so that you'll learn to be a good child like Ivan!"

"Don't pretend to be weak and poor in front of me, you were just locked up for 3 days, not tortured! The butler sent you food and water everyday, you must be too comfortable in that attic! I should've told him not to give you anything to eat and drink! Then you might've learned your lesson."

The butler? Christian showed a bitter smile, he didn't see anyone. He would have been dead if Morris were not back.

But he had no power to speak a word.

Teresa stood beside Morris with a smile, "honey, I told you to throw him in a boarding school, children like him deserve that prison only, but you allowed him to stay here, do you think these little punishments will teach him a lesson?"

"If he doesn't realize his mistake, I'm going to do that only, don't worry my dear, I won't let him bully our son anymore," Morris kissed Teressa's forehead with a gentle smile not being bothered by Christian's suffering.

The snow began to increase, creating a chilly vibes, icy needles stabbing through his clothes, he kneeled with extreme pain, teeth chattering, but he kept his head down, refusing to give Ivan the satisfaction of seeing him cry, the blood dripping from his body falling on the snow turning the white snow into crimson shade.

His only protection was the necklace around his neck, a small reminder of his mother giving him courage to bear everything with the only warmth he has currently.

But Ivan wasn’t done even after looking Christian in that situation.

"Dad please stop this, it’s all my fault, let's take my brother inside," Ivan said, voice filled with fake remorse as if he is concerned about Christian, "If I hadn’t asked brother for his necklace, he wouldn’t have pushed me." He bit his lip, with a sly glance at Christian.

Morris’s face darkened hearing to this, he clenched his fist, without another word, he walked over to Christian and reached down to grab the necklace.

Christian's eyes went wide as he clutched at it desperately trying to protect it from his father.

"Please father, don't take this," he pleaded with a painful tone. "This is all I've as a reminder of mom."

But Morris yanked it off his neck with a violent pull, the thin chain snapped, and Christian felt something inside him broken along with it.

He reached out, gasping and coughing hard, but his father only laughed cruelly, pressing the necklace into Ivan’s hand.

"There, consider it as your punishment for being selfish," Morris sneered, "you took everything till now which was supposed to be Ivan's, so from now onwards you should learn to give everything to him until he is satisfied."

Christian stumbled to the ground, his fingers reaching out hopelessly for the necklace that had meant everything to him. Tears filled in his eyes, but he fought them back, as he knew those tears have no value according to them.

He stared at Morris and Teresa's backs with indifference and hatred.

All the strength in his body disappeared, and he couldn't even lick a little snow to replenish water. But he was using all his strength to remember these two people. He made up his mind that if he could survive, he must make this couple regret it!

Morris and Teresa turned away without a second glance, heading back inside, laughing and giggling while talking to each other.

As they finally left from there, leaving Christian in such a miserable situation, Ivan crouched down in front of him, with an evil grin across his face as he dangled the necklace in front of Christian's eyes.

"See?" he whispered, with a great happiness after stealing Christian's precious treasure, "Didn’t I tell you I’d get it?"

Ivan let the necklace drop, and with a cruel smile, he stomped on it, grinding the delicate metal into the snow and dirt until it was twisted and broken.

"Here is your cheap necklace," Ivan laughed maliciously, "Now I don’t want it anymore.”

"Umm..." Georgia’s expression changed slightly, as if pain, sympathy, something heavier, all together came at a time."There were five," she said softly.Christian’s gaze shifted toward her immediately remembering the term he heard in between all these illusions. "The Original Five." Georgia nodded slowly."Yes." Something inside Christian immediately connected pieces together before she even continued. His voice lowered slightly as he knew the only time she hesitates when it's connected to him. "By any chance are you talking about my family?" Georgia closed her eyes briefly before answering."Yes." "The deepest laboratory…."Ezra’s voice lowered sharply after looking at what was projected before him, the usual carelessness that constantly lingered around him disappearing almost instantly as his calm eyes remained fixed on the glowing map suspended above the ruined sanctum floor, while beside him, even Georgia’s breathing seemed to still for a brief moment under the unbearable weight of what they were witnessing.Mary’s projection continued."The Veilborn could not fully destroy the relic because its existence became bound to the gate itself. "You’re unusually quiet all of a sudden... Is everything okay?" Georgia’s voice echoed softly through the dim inner sanctum corridor as she walked beside Christian beneath huge black-silver walls engraved with ancient Veilborn inscriptions, their surfaces pulsing faintly with dormant crimson energy while the deeper chambers ahead radiated increasingly violent relic resonance.Christian did not answer immediately. His sharp gaze remained fixed ahead, calm yet noticeably heavier than before, while Mary’s blade rested loosely in his hand and the completed five-fragment key beneath his coat pulsed steadily against his chest like a second heartbeat. The deeper they moved into the sanctuary, the stronger it became. The relic, and its presence no longer felt distant... • DON'T SOUND DISSAPOINTED

"Before you even think about stepping through that gate without a plan," Ezra said with a tone that tried to remain casual but carried an unmistakable sharpness beneath it as he hovered just slightly ahead of Christian and Georgia, his gaze fixed on the ancient layered inscriptions covering the inner threshold, "I would like to remind you that this is no longer a place where instinct alone will keep you both alive." Christian stood a step away from the gate, his posture steady, his expression composed, yet his eyes carried a deeper awareness now, something sharpened by everything they had already endured since entering the sanctum."I’m not relying on instinct... I've never done that," he replied calmly. "I’m relying on understanding what it wants."Georgia, who had been studying the inscriptions closely, let out a slow breath as her fingers hovered just inches above the ancient script without touching it, her brows furrowed in concentration."And what exactly do you think it wants?"
