"What?" Christian asked with a clueless face, "what did you say?"

Aurora pushed a faint smile, "nothing, just think about it by yourself," with that, Aurora walked away from there as if they had no conversation at all.

While Christian looked utterly confused, "what's wrong with this woman? Why is she and her words like a cliffhanger?"

As her words were nothing but confusing to him, he simply put them aside to concentrate on his own work.

On the other side,

The elevator doors slid closed behind Aurora with a soft chime, only then did she let her shoulders drop.

Not dramatically, not all at once, just enough for the tension to loosen, the kind of relief that only happened when no one was watching.

The mirrored walls reflected her image back at her, composed, elegant, and unshaken, a lie she had perfected early in life.

Aurora stared at her own reflection for a long moment, then looked away.

Christian’s office replayed in her mind, not his words, not the data, but the way he had looked

  • THEN LISTEN CAREFULLY

"Why is it too quiet?" Christian thought to himself, looking at the company floor which was quieter than usual in the afternoon. Not empty, but no sound came out, not even whispers among the employees as all of them are too busy with their works.Christian stood by the glass wall of his office, after the promotion, he got a new office assigned for himself, from an intern, he rose into high position and now has an office of his own.He just quietly started reviewing the latest logistics forecast on his tablet when the knock came. Not hurried, not even hesitant, very quiet and gentle."Come in," he said without even turning to look at the person who knocked on the door, after his response, the door was opened smoothly.Aurora stepped inside with a calm face, she wasn’t dressed up like usual, no dramatic colors, no jewelry meant to draw attention. Just a tailored blazer, messy hair bun, and that unmistakable confidence was as always appearing before her, because of the silence despite

  • STOP YELLING LIKE A FOOL

"Hey... Hey...." Ivan screamed aloud, "Is there anyone? This is illegal.... How can you confine us like this?" But no reply came despite him shouting so hard, darkness returned slowly, not all at once.First, Ivan became aware of the cold. Then especially the restraints, cold metal biting into his wrists, suppressors humming faintly against his skin, draining strength before it could even gather. Then the sound, a low, and mechanical tick… tick… tick…Somewhere nearby, not loud enough to locate, not even soft enough to ignore.Ivan's eyelids fluttered, observing concrete walls, narrow cells, no windows to know whether it is morning or still dark outside, not even a clock around to see time.Only a dim strip of white light along the ceiling, flickering at irregular intervals, just enough to keep him awake. He shifted, and froze, as a loud scream echoed down the corridor. Not close, not far either, but at the same time, long and cut short abruptly.Ivan’s breath stuttered, as he called

  • I'M INFORMING YOU

"My Lord, you're in a rush to leave," Lysandre commented with a teasing smile, "is it because you're missing your son already?" Adrian hummed quietly, "yeah, I miss my son, any problem with that?" Lysandre chuckled while shaking his head in mock defeat, as he can't argue with Adrian.Dawn had not yet broken when Adrian stepped back into the upper levels of the city. The base doors sealed behind him with a hydraulic hiss, burying the screams, the fear, the unfinished cruelty far beneath layers of reinforced concrete and silence. Both Ivan and Teressa are terrified, as they couldn't understand how they're going to suffer in the hands of Adrian and his men, their pleas and requests unheard as no one held pity towards them because of what they've done to Christian.Outside, the world looked deceptively normal.Traffic lights blinked lazily. A street vendor was setting up a cart. Somewhere, a radio played soft morning news as if nothing irreversible had shifted overnight.Adrian adjuste

  • YOU CAN'T DO THIS!

"I'm coming!"That's the only sentence left from Adrian, and he immediately stood up from the couch, before leaving the house. He opened the Christian room's door, and taken a look at Christian who is sleeping peacefully.Getting closer to Christian, he pulled the blanket up covering Christian's arms and gently caressed his hair, "sleep well, my dear!"With that he walked out of the room and closed the door very gently behind him making sure no sound came reach Christian. Finally, he left the house, and made his way straight to the base, the drive took him almost an hour to reach that place.By the time he reached, the base lay buried beneath layers of reinforced concrete and silence. It's a desolate place, with no signboards or markings, not just that, it's a place, where there'll be no signs of mercy or pity either.Only steel doors, armed guards, and corridors that swallowed sound whole.Adrian walked in alone. His steps echoed, measured, controlled, and unhurried. The kind of cal

  • FOR TRYING

"For Chris!" Adrian hesitated, and finally said, Mrs. Nevermore's laughter stopped instantly and was replaced by warm amusement. "Oh...." That single syllable held everything, understanding, curiosity, and something dangerously close to fondness."You want to make him dumpling soup by yourself," she said, not asking."Yes." "Today?" "Yes." Another pause. Then, warmly Mrs. Nevermore has said, "don't worry, I know how to make it, I’ll send you the recipe, step by step, so that you can make it easily, and by the way Rian?" "Yes, Mom?" "Don’t rush it, my dear," she said gently. "Dumplings taste better when made patiently, so you have to be very patient while making this recipe, only then it tastes more delicious." Adrian closed his eyes briefly. "I understand!" After the call ended, Adrian stared at his phone for a second longer than necessary. Then he rolled up his sleeve
