The east wing of the mansion felt like another world. It was quiet, polished, and impossibly large. Even Ethan was a bit stunned when he first saw it.

He had recovered a good amount of the memories of his past life, and could remember some of the houses they had lived in, but none had been this large. Or maybe he just hadn’t remembered yet.

Layla’s footsteps echoed as she wandered through the corridor, almost tripping over her own excitement. Every few seconds she gasped, pointed at a painting or some intricate sculpture, or spun around in disbelief. It was almost as if Ava had locked them up for the two weeks that Ethan had been unconscious and had only just let them out.

“Mom, look at this wall! It’s… shiny! Why is the wall shiny? Who needs a shiny wall?!” she exclaimed, sliding her palm over the polished marble.

Her mother moved twice as fast behind her, whisper-shouting as if someone might charge her a fine for breathing too close to the walls.
