Chapter 1

Claude poured coffee into his mother-in-law's glass. Slowly and very carefully so that not a single drop of the coffee in the glass pot dripped onto his mother-in-law.

Anne, Claude's mother-in-law, looked at the man with a sardonic gaze. In this luxurious house and in the Adelman family, Claude was nothing more than a useless son-in-law. A poor, unemployed man who could only bring shame to the Adelman family.

Anne reached for her glass elegantly and inhaled the aroma of the coffee. Claude watched his mother-in-law, who was now taking a sip of coffee. "Mother, can I borrow some more money for my mother's needs?"

Anne's eyes widened perfectly. She put down her coffee cup so roughly that it made a loud clinking sound. The coffee in her mouth almost spurted out. Anne got up with her hands around her waist, immediately rebuking Claude. "Don't you have any self-respect? You're a shameless man. All this time you've been giving my daughter a hard time. You're such a useless husband! You should be ashamed if you still have the brains to think! Poor Olivia has a pathetic husband like you."

"Don't think because you saved Olivia, you can ask me for money! You have nothing but trouble!" Anne's breath coming fast, she pointed at her son-in-law.

"Mother, I saved Olivia because I couldn't see a woman doing that and we both loved each other." Claude spoke calmly, and he didn't want to anger Anne further.

"I will never accept you as my son-in-law! Olivia should have married Marley, a rich man from a respectable family, not you! You're a trashy man!" Anne shouted. She held her forehead to relax her a little.

Anne snorted in annoyance as she folded her arms across her chest. "Unbelievable. Until this moment I still wonder what made Olivia want to marry you. You don't even have a penny. What does she get out of you? What a life I have with a poor, jobless, useless son-in-law like you."

Claude couldn't defend himself. Everything his mother-in-law said was true. He could only stay silent and squeeze her hand tightly because he also knew that all this time, he could only rely on Olivia.

Anne regulated her breathing, she sat back on the chair while looking at Claude. "You really need money for your mother's medical expenses, huh?"

"That's right, Mom." Claude answered with a careful tone of voice because he felt reluctant to his mother-in-law.

Anne picked up her coffee cup, took a sip, and then placed it back on the table. "I will lend you the money to pay for your mother's treatment, but on one condition."

Claude's brow furrowed. "What condition?" He was curious. Claude desperately needed money for his terminally ill mother's treatment. If possible, he would do anything to get the money.

Anne smiled sarcastically. She narrowed her eyes as she grinned at Claude. "You should divorce Olivia." Anne thought that Olivia could find a better husband than Claude.

Claude was surprised to hear his mother-in-law's request. "I can't divorce Olivia." Of course, Claude didn't want to divorce Olivia because he also loved his wife.

"You are so stubborn. Hey! Listen! There are many men who like Olivia, she can certainly marry a wealthy man who has a company, a house, a car, and can spend a lot of luxurious things on Olivia compared to you trash that was picked up by my daughter!" Anne cursed while pointing at Claude repeatedly. Her hatred for Claude would never go away, she was so ashamed of that lowly man.

Poor and troublesome.

"Are you deaf!? You don't want to divorce Olivia? Marley Darlin from the Darlin family is perfect for my daughter, he is rich and covets Olivia. If Olivia marries him, Olivia can live like a queen instead of a hobo!"

Anne was so upset that her chest was rising and falling, so obviously, her body temperature was heating up because of this. As for Claude, he had been wringing his hands and trying to restrain himself, but he opened his mouth to reply to his father-in-law's words.

"Mo-"

"Aunty Anne! I'm so happy to see you! You're beautiful as always!"

Marley arrived at the house and spread her arms, and hugged Anne.

Anne's expression immediately changed, she looked very happy. "Marley, I'm glad to see you now." The second Anne saw Marley, she looked at Claude indifferently.

"I'm glad to see you too, Aunty Anne. Are you ready to go for a walk with me?" Marley looked at Anne, but Anne didn't look ready and made a sad face.

Today Marley had promised to pick Anne up and take her for a walk while shopping. Later, they would pick up Olivia to have fun together. Anne couldn't let go of this opportunity, she could get Marley's luxury items that she wouldn't be able to get from her useless son-in-law.

"This is all because of him. This ignorant child makes me forget, he does often make my head hurt, Marley." Anne blamed everything on Claude.

Marley immediately looked at Claude, the shabbily dressed man he had hated initially. There was nothing good about him.

He was much better than Claude!

"Aunty, you're dealing with trash like him. It's very troublesome, but don't worry. He'll get a divorce and Olivia will marry me." Marley released her hug and looked down at Claude.

"You won't be able to do that, she and I are getting married, we're so in love."

Marley laughed at Claude's words. "Hey, you're poor. Olivia won't be happy with you, you can't even afford a potato and you talk nonsense. Your brain is so empty, do you think you can just live like a parasite like you, huh!?"

Marley was the man Olivia had previously been set up with, and Olivia had rejected him. It annoyed him to see that the man Olivia had married was of a standard far below his, he was poor, had a lot of debts, and was also brain-dead.

"Marley, his head is empty. He hardly understands what we're saying, he's so poor and embarrassing that he borrowed money from me earlier. He really is so shameful!"

Anne emphasized her sentence, she now folded her hands in front of her chest, showing an unusually arrogant attitude.

Then Marley's voice rang out, she was satisfied to hear Anne's contempt for this lowly man before her.

"That's right, he's very stupid. I'll replace him soon, you won't be able to be Olivia's husband anymore." Marley grinned, mocking the man who squeezed her hand tightly.

"You!"

"Shut up, Claude! You don't even have the right to make a sound in my house! You have no brains, and seeing you here makes me unable to breathe properly. Now you better get out of our presence!"

Anne moved her hand, she shooed Claude away, and an angry Claude chose to leave their presence. His face looked hard from the overwhelming emotion. He loved Olivia, and so did Olivia, if s

he was forcibly separated, of course, he didn't want to.

"I need more money." Claude looked down. "My mom... I won't let them get her out of the hospital."

Claude had a part-time job at a small restaurant near his house, but for some reason, at work, he often got into trouble and was eventually fired. It happened so many times that it seemed so strange.

Finally, Claude arrived at a park, on a park bench, he chose to sit. Just as he sat down, a man appeared at his door.

"Young master Claude." Suddenly made, Claude stared at the man with wide eyes.

A well-dressed man approached Claude and bowed his head respectfully before him. "I finally found you, young master."
