CHAPTER 320
Greg fought the urge to roll his eyes, even as he turned his gaze back to his teacher. Morpheus had, for whatever reason, chosen to take the approach of the ever-unimpressed master. Greg was willing to bet both his thumbs that there were fewer than ten other seventh-tier mages who would have grasped as much as his teacher had in just a single month. Creating runes that tapped into the laws associated with the concepts they represented might have seemed a straightforward thing to do. That, however, was only if one didn't consider the fact that most people only grasped a few laws and were completely incapable of touching on those that they didn't comprehend. In a single month, the deity had taught his teacher how to tap into laws that she had no mastery over, all without corrupting herself with them. Even more impressive was the fact that his teacher had actually understood and applied what she was being taught. "He's not impressed, is he?" His teacher's voice broke through the silenc
CHAPTER 319
Thus began the strange month for Greg. Here he was, a bridge between a deity and a high-tier mage. Despite having started over from scratch, his teacher still had the mind and understanding of a seventh-tier mage. What's more, hers was a rare mind. Even among her peers in terms of tiers, his teacher had been widely considered a genius. Greg thus found himself giving lessons ninety-nine percent of which he didn't understand at all. He'd communicate the logic of certain symbols, the principles behind certain laws, the intersection between will, laws, mana, and the individual, and so on. What was even more daunting was the fact that Greg could offer no demonstrations of the thing he was repeating from Morpheus. The deity probably could have both shown and told everything he was teaching. Greg, however, could only parrot words with zero understanding of their overall meaning and relevance. But while Greg found himself feeling like a fool, his teacher proved herself to be anything but! G
CHAPTER 318
"Rubbish!... don't just draw with your hand, infuse your will into the line!... What is this?... Are you even listening to anything I'm saying?... Your will, damn it! Use it!... There is more will in a pube on my left nut than you have in that rune... Pathetic!" Greg couldn't help but wince internally at the invective-laden tirade that Morpheus went into every time his teacher attempted to follow the instructions he had laid out for her. The deity had taken the stereotypical form of a drill sergeant from the army, complete with the campaign hat. Rather than a normal-sized man, however, the deity had taken a miniaturized form. Greg estimated that the top of Morpheus' head would only come up to just a little above his knees if he were to stand. Both he and his teacher were seated, however, so the little man was at the perfect height to not only assess the rune the healer was weaving in the air, but also to throw every possible insult he could think of to convey his displeasure at the r
CHAPTER 317
Had Greg been from this world, then perhaps it would have been hard to understand how an image could be a set of instructions. Greg however, had come from the computing age where programs were a thing. His mind immediately likened a formation to one. To a layman an app or game they were interacting with might seem like a 3D entity in itself. In truth, however, they were all just lines of code being interpreted by the CPU of whatever device one was using. Formations weren't exactly a one-to-one analog of programs. First off they had no CPUs to process them and they ran on mana instead of electricity. That said, they seemed to operate on roughly the same principles. Just like a programmer could imagine the lines of code needed to make an app, a formation master could imagine see the underlying logic of a formation. "Are you saying that..." Greg couldn't even finish the question owing to how impossible the conclusion sounded even to him. His teacher, however, nodded excitedly. "Yes,
CHAPTER 316
The healer was right, the second issue was much less daunting than the first. In fact, Greg found himself not caring in the least what schools of magic either his mother or sister ended up in. So long as they made it out the other end of this process safely, then he'd be more than happy. It took a long while of contemplation before Greg could bring himself to ask. "What is the good news?" "Well, outside of this black zone where the mana concentration is normal, it would have been almost impossible to awaken them. Their body's lack of affinity with mana would have made it an uphill climb to try to saturate them with it. Nine in ten parts of what we put in them would have almost immediately been lost to the environment as their bodies rejected it. In this black zone, however, their bodies are actually the only places that are low in mana compared to the outside world, making it extremely difficult for their bodies to expunge the mana outside of them, despite their low affinity. Not on
CHAPTER 315
More than likely, Morpheus already had an idea of what formation they'd be making use of to hold both the world serpent and Mana storm at bay. Once everything needed to make the formation into reality was available, they'd immediately start working on it. Or more accurately, he'd have his teacher and Olivia work on it. Greg still didn't know even the basics of formations. If he tried to work on it directly, he'd likely be more hindrance than a help. Not to mention, with how expensive items at this level were, every item he messed up would mean weeks, if not months of more waiting. Only after the formation was in place and ready to protect them, would Morpheus take over and start undoing the black zone. Greg had thus tentatively put the timeline of his breakout at six months. It was by no means fixed and would likely change as factors around them changed, but it was what he was currently working with... *** Pushing the door open, Greg walked into the meditation room to find a familia
