The next day, it was a bright and beautiful morning in the magical school, a school for magicians. Mason sat on a bench under a large oak tree near the entrance of the school courtyard, his hands clenched tightly in frustration as he explained everything to his friend Tony. The usual noise and chatter of students filled the air, but Mason was lost in his thoughts. Tony sat beside him, listening quietly, his expression darkened as Mason revealed what had transpired between him, Aurora and john.

"So you're telling me Aurora left you after you caught her cheating with John?" Tony asked with disbelief in his voice.

"She didn't even deny it, Tony. She just acted like it was normal, like it was my fault for not being good enough for her. I've heard students gossiping about me being weak because I don't have magic yet, but to hear it from her... it's crazy" Mason said with anger in his eyes.

"That's low, Mason. Real low, I knew she wasn't exactly a saint but cheating on you with John?, that bastard who has been looking down on people for years because his father owns the biggest new company. And then to get you fired on top of everything? That's just cruel" Tony said angrily as he clenched his fists.

Mason's gaze shifted from tiny to where Aurora stood across the courtyard. She was surrounded by a group of students, including john, laughing as if nothing had happened. Her arm was linked with John's hand and she looked relaxed as though what happened yesterday had no effect on her at all.

"That's them, look at them, acting like I'm the villain in this story" Mason muttered bitterly with his eyes filled with disdain.

Tony turned his gaze towards the group. John was standing tall, smirked as he talked to his friends, one of them his Arthur. A guy who usually bullied Mason. John, who is rich and has a magical background, was giving him an aura of superiority. Aurora on the other hand looked like she was enjoying the attention she was receiving, completely unbothered by the chaos she had caused.

"I swear, people like them think they can walk all over others because they have power. It's disgusting" Tony said.

"She said I was useless, tiny. That I was nothing because I didn't have magic and wasn't rich. All the times I thought she cared about me, but turns out, she was just waiting for someone like John to come all along, someone she thinks is better" Mason said with disdain in his eyes.

"That's bullshit, man. You don't need magic or money to have value. People like Aurora, John and his guys are shallow. They only care about power and status and that makes them weak in their own way. You have something they don't have, and that is determination m you're going to find your magic and when you do, they'll be the ones who are afraid" Tony said.

"I wish it was that simple. The way they look at me, the way everyone looks at me.. it's like I don't even matter like I'm invisible " Mason said.

Tony glanced at the group again. John's loud arrogant voice echoed across the courtyard.

"Yeah, I fired that loser yesterday, didn't even need to lift a finger. He came crawling in with his resignation letter. Guess he finally realized he's not cut out for a job with people like us" John said.

"I told him it was over. Why would I stay with someone who has no future?John has everything, money, connections and a powerful magician family, Mason's nothing compared to him" Aurora said before laughing out a high-pitched sound.

Mason's heart raced with anger as he heard her words. It was as if she had completely erased every good moment they shared. His chest tightened, but Tony placed a hand on his shoulder to ease him.

"Don't listen to them, Mason, people like that thrive in making others feel small. They're not worth it". Tiny said calmly as he began to reach for his magical wand.

But Mason could help the rage inside him.

"I want to prove them wrong, Tony. I need to show them I'm not weak. I need to show everyone" Mason voices out calmly.

"And you will, you just need time. Once your magic awakens, they won't be able to say a word" Tiny replied.

As Mason stared at Aurora and John from a distance , the anger inside him only fueled his determination. He would find a way to unlock his powers and get his wand no matter what it took. When he did, he would make sure people like John, Arthur and Aurora could never look down on him again.

Tony could see the intensity In Mason's eyes as they both sat under the large oak tree, the distant laughter of John and Aurora echoing in the background like an insult. Mason's jaw was right, his hands were shaking in frustration. Tony had known Mason for years, long enough to recognize when something had broken inside him, something that wouldn't easily be fixed. Tony moved closer to Mason, lowering his voice.

"What do you want to do, Mason?, I can tell you're not going to let this slide,"Tony said, Mason's eyes darkened, his gaze was hard as he looked at Tony.

"I want what John has, I want his wand and his spell book. I want to be a powerful magician like him, but stronger " Mason said with no hesitation in his voice.

Tony blinked, slightly shocked. Mason had never spoken like this before, not with this level of intensity. The mason he knew had always been quiet, frustrated by his lack of magic but never knew to think of such dark ambitions. This was different m

There was something cold in the way he spoke, as if he had already made up his mind about the path he wanted to take.

The road back from the Black Hills was heavier than the march east. They carried fewer supplies, fewer voices. Some who had left with Mason did not return. Their bodies lay buried beneath the charred ruins of the village, marked only by scorched stones and the smell of ash.Norra walked beside Mason in silence, her small hands clenched into fists. She had watched him burn shadows with fire that was not his. She had seen him shake after, skin pale, breath ragged. She had wanted to scream at him to stop. But she hadn’t. Because the shadows would have swallowed them all if he hadn’t.Now, with each step, her chest ached with a fear she could not voice. Refugees followed them west. Men, women, children with hollow eyes. They spoke in whispers that spread like smoke. “They say he carries the Saint’s fire.”“They say the silver-eyed warrior burns darkness itself.”“They say Aurora gave him her soul.”Mason heard them. He ignored them. His silver eyes stayed forward, cold as steel, but John

The courtyard was quiet at dawn. The flame mark pulsed faintly, its glow softer than in the nights before. The pilgrims who had camped at the gates still slept, their breaths rising in steady clouds, but Mason was awake. He stood at the edge of the courtyard, silver eyes fixed on the east. The Black Hills waited there, jagged shadows across the horizon. His jaw was tight, his shoulders squared. He had not spoken much through the night, but all who saw him knew what weighed on him.The messenger’s last words were still sharp in his mind. “They gather. Fragments… shadows… Vazquez’s remnants.”Mason closed his hand into a fist. “Then we’ll meet them.”By midmorning, the survivors gathered in the ruined hall. It was smaller than it had been, half the roof missing, the stone cracked. But the voices inside carried strong.John stood at Mason’s side, his arms crossed, his silver eyes cool. Norra sat on the step nearby, her chin lifted high, defiance glowing in her young face.Students, old

The courtyard was silent after the blaze. The flame mark glowed faintly in the stone, pulsing like a dying heartbeat. The survivors sat in a circle around it, their faces pale and heavy with grief. Norra had not moved in hours. Her hands rested on the mark, her forehead pressed against the warm stone. Her tears had dried, but her eyes were hollow, her voice faint. “She gave everything,” she whispered. “She was all we had.”The students bowed their heads. No one argued. No one dared until the air stirred. The mark flared suddenly, brighter than before. Sparks rose into the night, golden and silver, swirling together. The students gasped. Some cried out in fear, others in awe. Norra lifted her head sharply, her heart pounding. “Aurora…?”But the light was different this time. Stronger. Sharper. Not soft, like Aurora’s flame, but cutting, like steel through darkness.John stepped forward slowly, his silver eyes narrowing. “Wait. That isn’t her.”The sparks twisted upward, shaping into

The sun rose over the academy ruins. Its light spilled across shattered walls, broken towers, and scorched earth. Yet even with the dawn, the brightest thing in the courtyard was not the sun.It was the flame mark burned into the stone. It pulsed faintly, gold light rising and falling like a heartbeat. The survivors gathered around it, whispering among themselves. Some bowed their heads in prayer. Others touched the stone carefully, as if afraid it might vanish.Norra sat beside the mark, her hands pressed against it. Her hair was tangled, her clothes torn, but her eyes burned fiercely with determination. She hadn’t left the mark since the night Aurora vanished into fire. When the younger students asked her why, she always gave the same answer. “Because she’s still here. I can feel her.”Her words spread quickly. The children began to sit near the mark with her, some whispering Aurora’s name, others humming softly like a song.Every time the mark glowed brighter, Norra’s heart leapt.

The courtyard was silent. The fire had gone, leaving only smoke curling through the broken air. The ground was cracked, the walls scorched, the academy bells silent at last.At the center of it all, burned deep into the stone, was the mark: the shape of a flame. Norra stared at it, her chest heaving, her tears falling freely. She fell to her knees, pressing her hands to the mark as though she could pull Aurora back through it. Her voice broke in a whisper. “You can’t be gone… you can’t…”Around her, the students gathered slowly, their faces pale and hollow. No one spoke. Some were crying quietly, others just staring at the mark in stunned silence. One boy whispered shakily, “She… she saved us.”A girl beside him wept, clutching her arms. “But she’s gone. She’s really gone.”Their voices spread like ripples, sorrow echoing across the courtyard. John stood a few steps away, his silver eyes fixed on the mark. His jaw was tight, his fists clenched, his body trembling with something he c
