Varom’s body was blasted backward nearly ten meters. To stop himself from toppling over, he dug his heels into the courtyard floor, carving two deep grooves in the stone as he skidded to a halt.

Spurt!

He spat out a mouthful of blood onto the ground, easing the pressure in his chest. There wasn’t any internal injury—but the pain was real.

“You’ve grown pitiful, Varom. I didn’t expect this fight to end so quickly,” Nebulus sneered, his voice cold yet amused. “In truth, I’ve only used ten percent of my inner force.”

“I’ve been out of practice. Next time, I won’t give you the chance,” Varom replied calmly. He clasped his hands together at his chest, gave a slight bow to Nebulus, and stepped back beyond the boundary line of the courtyard.

As he walked toward Miralda, the grandmaster forced a thin smile. “Forgive me. It seems I’ve let you down.”

Miralda shook her head. “On the contrary, you fought brilliantly, Grandmaster.”

She knew Varom hadn’t fought with his full strength. If he had, th

“Madam, is there anything I can help you with?”Tristan turned politely to Bersena, addressing her with respect despite the fact that she looked younger than him. He did so because he saw how much Miralda respected her.“Tell me—who are you? And why must Miralda leave with you?”Bersena’s eyes locked onto Tristan with a sharp, intimidating glare. When Miralda’s friend earlier suggested she might be leaving for a date, a wave of unease instantly surged in Bersena’s chest. More than that, she feared Miralda was heading somewhere she shouldn’t. Bersena refused to let Miralda gamble away her youth just to buy a decent life with money.“Bersena, it’s nothing. He’s just a friend,” Miralda said, not wanting to prolong the matter.“Let me go, okay? I’ll contact you once I arrive.”Miralda turned, steeling herself to leave. But her words only deepened Bersena’s suspicions.“Sir, I beg you, please say something. I can’t allow Miralda to go without knowing where she’s headed. I won’t be at peace

  • Chapter 463 - A Decision to Make

A week later.“Miralda, thank goodness you’re awake.”Bersena immediately embraced the girl lying on the bed as soon as she saw her eyes flutter open.“Bersena,” Miralda whispered, returning the hug. “I’m… I’m so sorry.”Her guilt weighed heavy—she knew her actions had hurt Bersena. But before she could say more, she froze. Something felt terribly wrong in that embrace.“Bersena, y-you…” Miralda’s voice trembled, her face paling with grief. “You’ve lost your power?”It wasn’t just damage to Bersena’s dantian. From what Miralda could sense, it was impossible for her to ever cultivate again.Tears streamed down Miralda’s cheeks.“This is my fault. I never thought… I never thought it would come to this because of me.”As a cultivator herself, she understood all too well the agony of losing one’s core—of having the very essence of cultivation stripped away.“If only I hadn’t used that technique…”“No, Miralda. This isn’t your fault.” Bersena pulled her closer, holding her tightly.“What h

  • Chapter 462 - The Aftermath

Miralda barely registered the faint voice calling her name.“Bersena…” she murmured. “Is that you?”Wrapped in the overwhelming power of the Phoenix, the sound reached her only as a distant whisper. It wasn’t until the fiery shadow of her Phoenix wings lashed out and struck Bersena’s body that her senses snapped back.“What—?!” she gasped, regaining fragments of her awareness. When she realized who she had harmed, her heart lurched violently.“Oh, God… what have I done?”Her mind began to clear, but her body raged out of control, as if she were caught in a stormy current threatening to drag her under.“Phoenix, stop! Stop this instant!”She screamed the words in her mind, but her body remained wild and unresponsive.“I swear I’ll destroy you if you don’t listen! Withdraw your power now! Do it—fast!”ROAR!Stubborn though it was, the Phoenix obeyed at last. The beast pulled back its strength, and slowly Miralda regained command over her own body as it sank weakly toward the ground.Tap

  • Chapter 461 - Bersena’s Intervention

Ten minutes earlier.“What? What is Miralda doing, fighting against the Old Master? Has she lost her mind?”Bersena froze the moment she stepped into the courtyard. She had rushed there after seeing the other masters fleeing in panic, but the sight before her left her breathless. She had come because she was worried about Miralda—and it seemed her fears were more than justified.Miralda had just been hurled more than thirty feet back after being hit by Nebulus’s strong inner energy. Before Bersena could run onto the battlefield, Varom appeared in front of her, blocking her path.“Bersena, please understand. This is a sacred duel. We must not interfere.”Varom was right. Nebulus was no ordinary man. He was the Guardian of the Living Forest, a being who would never act without reason, much less in malice. He would never intentionally harm Miralda. On the contrary, it was considered an honor for the young woman to face the Mist Lord in combat.“B-but…”Bersena bit her lip, her face tense

Nebulus managed to stay firmly on his feet, while Miralda was blasted back more than ten meters.Spurt!Blood surged up her throat, spilling past her lips in a thick crimson stream.“Damn it! Why can’t I defeat the Old Master yet?!”Her breaths came in ragged gasps as she glared at Nebulus. Her chest ached even worse than before, her blood circulation now utterly chaotic. The Phoenix Strike was a technique meant only for cultivators who had reached the pinnacle—level one hundred. Miralda, whose cultivation energy was only at level fifty, was lucky she hadn’t been fatally injured from the backlash. But there were limits. Judging from her condition, she had already reached hers. If she dared to use that power a third time, every vein in her body would burst apart.“Miralda, I strongly suggest you end this fight,” Nebulus said, his voice calm though part of his body still tingled with numbness from the earlier impact. “If you insist on gambling with that last attempt, I fear it will cost

  • Chapter 459 - An Ancient and Forbidden Technique

“What the hell…?! What kind of technique is this? Just how powerful is Miralda?”The masters widened their eyes, their faces twisted with unease and fear. They had already witnessed Miralda’s terrifying strength in her first strike. And now, the girl was unleashing something far more dreadful with her next move.Everyone finally understood—this was no longer some trivial spar. This was no less deadly than Varom’s previous duel. This was a battle of life and death. While most were still frozen in shock, Varom, standing not too far away at the edge of the courtyard, suddenly furrowed his brows. His eyes widened, as though he had realized something.“...The Phoenix Incantation?” he muttered, disbelief coloring his voice.“Then… my suspicions were right? Miralda’s already used this spell before?”Worry carved deep lines into the grandmaster’s face. Now he was certain—the technique that had nearly driven Miralda to unconsciousness weeks ago was none other than the temple’s most forbidden s
