Chapter 02 - Proving the Truth of the System

Darrin opened his eyes. "Where am I?"

As he moved his eyeballs, what he saw around him was a very familiar room.

It was his dorm room.

He tried to remember what had happened.

The last thing he remembered was the bodyguard's punch that landed heavily on his right temple.

He had almost lost consciousness due to the unbearable pain before a whisper sounded in his head.

"The system," he muttered. "I remember there was a voice in my head mentioning about the system."

Darrin recalled what the voice had told him before he lost consciousness.

"The system will grant one request every twenty-four hours. You can make any request as long as it concerns only yourself. You cannot make a request that relates to someone else, and you can only make the same request once."

"In other words, you can't use the system to help your friends or to make the same request twice. If you continue to do so, your daily quota will be counted, but of course the system will not grant such requests.

"In addition, any day you miss without making a request will also be counted. You can't make double requests the next day."

Darrin still had some doubts about the truth of the system. "Is that really true? Or am I just dreaming?"

As he was still pondering this, the dorm door opened.

Creak!

"Darrin!"

A young man with thick glasses looked surprised to see Darrin awake. He was about 170 cm tall with a very chubby body.

"I thought I would never see you again!"

He then closed the door and hurried over to Darrin lying on the bed.

"I'm still alive, right, Tom?"

Darrin also couldn't believe he could survive the blows from the bodyguards.

At 187 cm tall, Darrin could indeed be said to have an above-average body. However, his weight was only 50 kilograms. Let alone fighting, he even had difficulty standing or walking upright.

"Of course! What are you saying? God loves you and wants you to live longer to do many good things!"

Tom said this just to encourage Darrin.

He still remembered finding Darrin's body in the forest. The young man's thin face was very pale, and his body was starting to become cold.

Tom didn't dare to take Darrin to the campus hospital because he knew who had committed the crime against his friend.

"I'm not allowed to take you to the campus hospital. And I don't have the money to take you to a public hospital either," Tom apologized to him.

"What are you saying!" Darrin retorted. "You've done something huge for me, buddy!"

At that moment, Darrin's gaze fell on a stack of envelopes on the table. "Mail from the campus?"

Tom turned his head to the pile of papers. "Don't worry about it!"

Darrin tried to reach for the letter, but his body was still very sore and weak. After several attempts and failures, he finally gave up. "Tom, what's actually in that letter?"

With a regretful expression on his face, Tom had no choice but to tell the truth.

"You've been expelled from the list of scholarship recipients. You've also received a stern warning for your actions, which were considered an attempt to harass Emily. If ..."

"What?"

Darrin was shocked by the first sentence.

However, the second sentence made him unable to stay silent. "Harassing Emily? That's absurd! When have I ever been rude to her?"

"Buddy, I know what happened!" Tom tried to calm Darrin down.

The reason he could find Darrin's body in the forest was because he had been trailing his friend.

Tom was a classmate of Max in the business department. He knew very well the character of that rich young man and what he could do.

When Tom heard that Max was going to be engaged to Emily, he hurried to inform Darrin. Unfortunately, it was too late. When he headed to the place where Darrin usually studied in the backyard of the campus, the bodyguards had already dragged his friend's body away.

"Not only that!" Tom then took out his phone from his shorts pocket.

Without saying anything, he showed a video.

"Hey guys, look who's there!"

It was a video taken by Max when he caught Darrin alone with Emily.

"Do you think this scholarship-receiving poor kid is a good guy? Look at what he's going to do to my fiancée! If I hadn't come in time, I don't know what evil he would have done!"

Although Darrin clearly didn't do anything in the video, Max's provocative words could certainly incite everyone.

Moreover, Max not only posted the video on his social media account, but also tagged the official student representative and Starlight University accounts, making the video go viral.

"For the past week, letters have been coming in from the campus asking you to meet with the Rector to explain the content of the video," Tom continued.

Darrin could only take a deep breath. He didn't understand what Max actually wanted from him.

"Okay, buddy, I'll leave you now. Don't worry about it! You need to rest a lot." Tom patted Darrin's shoulder and left the room.

After his friend left, Darrin still had a lot on his mind.

He was especially curious about the system. "This system can grant all my requests, right?"

He remembered that a request could be made precisely at 12:01 every night. And it had been a week since Darrin got his system.

"If this system is real, I should get what I want, shouldn't I?"

For a long time, Darrin had longed for a healthy body so that he wouldn't always feel pain in his body after work. Especially now, after being beaten by the bodyguards, he still felt pain all over his body, even though it had been a week.
