"Darrin, forgive me! But it's better if we don't meet again!"

On a concrete bench in the backyard of a campus, a beautiful girl handed a maroon-colored letter to a young man.

"Emily, what is this? I don't understand! Have you been avoiding me for the past two months just because of this?"

Darrin knew that maroon-colored invitation letters were usually used for wedding or engagement parties. What he didn't understand was why the girl had kept her distance from him all this time.

Since they first set foot on Starlight University three and a half years ago, they had become close friends. Besides being in the same major, which was economics, they often had the same classes.

However, interacting with the beautiful Emily sparked a special feeling in Darrin's heart. However, he lacked the courage to express his feelings. And perhaps he never would.

Not because of anything. But the difference between them was too far to bridge.

Emily was the daughter of Starlight's mayor, Mr. Robert Hartley. Having wealth, since childhood Emily had been accustomed to indulging in delicious food and luxurious clothing.

Meanwhile, Darrin was the son of poor farmers who lived in a village hundreds of kilometers away from the city of Starlight. Let alone delicious food or nice clothes, even for daily meals, they had to strive very hard to get them.

However, Darrin had a very handsome face, although his appearance was slightly below standard and somewhat dirty. Not only that. He, who had been accustomed to studying diligently and working to help his parents since childhood, made him have above-average intelligence.

It was this intelligence that he used to survive in the city of Starlight. When not doing part-time jobs as a package delivery person, Darrin would do homework for other students in exchange for pocket money or food.

Seeing the vast difference in their backgrounds, of course, Darrin knew better than to express his feelings.

"My father has agreed to the proposal from the Bennett family! In a month, the engagement party will be held!"

"What?" Darrin looked surprised. If the proposal came from the Bennett family, that meant ... Max!

"Emily, are you sure? Are you sure Max is the right man for you? Think again! Also, think about what he has done all this time!"

Emily just shook her head. "There's nothing I can do to negotiate with my father, let alone refuse! I can only follow what he has decided!"

"Max has often played with girls, I'm sure you've heard! Even a few months ago there were rumors that a midwifery student had to suffer severe bleeding after she performed a self-abortion because Max refused to take responsibility for the child she was carrying! Haven't you considered that?"

"But, ... " Emily lowered her head. Her face looked not only sad but also very anxious. "Do I have a choice?"

Darrin was about to speak again when a voice was heard not far from where they were sitting.

Cough-cough!

"I couldn't find you in your class, turns out you're here!"

A man wearing a famous brand Hawaiian shirt stood not far from them and approached Emily.

He wore a gold chain necklace around his neck and oversized denim pants with small tears at both knees.

"Who is this guy? And why are you sitting alone with him?"

This man stared at Emily and Darrin alternately. When his gaze fell on Darrin, the glare in his eyes showed clear hatred and anger.

"M-Max, he ... " Emily almost struggled to speak. She knew that Max was a very possessive and jealous man. That's why she chose to meet Darrin in a secluded place like this.

She thought her future fiancé wouldn't find her. Unfortunately, her guess was dead wrong.

"Who is he?"

Max might have only asked quietly.

But Emily knew what was really in Max's heart. Her prospective fiancé was very angry.

Max then turned to three big men behind him wearing black suits. "Teach this kid a lesson!"

Without waiting for the boss to give the order a second time, they immediately grabbed each of Darrin's hands and dragged him.

"Darrin!" Emily shouted. She couldn't imagine what would happen to her friend.

"Max, please, let him go! It's not him who called me to this place! I did it!"

"Oh really?" Max gripped Emily's hand tightly. "At least he will be a lesson for you not to meet other guys again! And also a warning to all students not to get close to you!"

Emily, whose hand was pulled by Max, could see how roughly Darrin was being dragged. "Max, please let him go! Please!"

Emily, weaker than Max, could do nothing but watch Darrin being dragged by the bodyguards.

Behind the campus, not far from the fence, there was a small forest that was rarely visited by students.

Bang!

Bang!

Bang!

Fists and kicks landed continuously on Darrin's body.

His thin and slightly weak body was certainly no match for them. Let alone being hit by three strong men, Darrin could hardly withstand it when a student slightly stronger than him punched his stomach.

Bang!

A hard punch landed on Darrin's temple, knocking him to the ground. His head instantly became very dizzy and very painful. The surroundings slowly began to darken.

"Let's just leave him here!" A voice from one of the bodyguards sounded in Darrin's ear. "He's very weak! He'll probably die soon!"

"Die?"

That word echoed in Darrin's mind.

He had tried to live right his whole life. But would he end up like this?

When Darrin was almost in a coma, suddenly a voice rang in his ears.

"Ding! Darrin Carson, you are one of the billions of creatures in the universe chosen to receive a super lavish system! You can make one request every day, and the system will grant it to you!"

Darrin didn't understand if he was hallucinating or if it was a sign that he was about to enter the gates of hell.

At that moment, there was only one wish in his mind.

"I don't want to die! I want to live longer!"

Moments later, a female figure, adorned in gold from head to toe, smiled at him. Darrin immediately knelt down, for the woman's features indicated that she was the Moon Goddess Fenrisar had described."Since you have completed your first trial, accept this as your reward." The goddess raised the golden staff in her hand, and a golden ray descended to the earth and merged with Darrin's body. The goddess then vanished. But Darrin felt something strange happening to his body.He raised his hand and saw it transform into water, fire, earth, air, and all the elements of

"Why? Why are you doing this? No!"Splash!Darrin's scream faded as his body fell into the water. But the scream continued to echo in his heart even as his body began to sink to the bottom of the lake."Why did you sacrifice yourself for me? Why didn't you let me do it for you?"Darrin felt completely devastated. Not only because he had failed to protect the princess, but also because he had failed to protect his other loved ones before."Why does everyone close to me have to suffer such a tragic fate? Why can't I protect them?"The regret and grief grew stronger in his heart as his body sank deeper into the lake.At the same time, he felt his chest tighten and it became difficult to breathe. It seemed that Helena's plan to save Darrin would end in failure, as the young man's weakened body made it impossible for him to use any internal energy or technique to help him breathe.Darrin understood this, and it only deepened his regret."If only you had gone into the lake instead, perhaps

"Greetings to you, Mother!" The Dark Knight could not contain the joy in his heart as he saw the young woman rise from the ground and look in his direction. "I-I know you may not have expected us to rouse you from your slumber. But..."The Dark Knight did not hesitate to reveal his intentions to the young woman who was, after all, his biological mother. "We've been going through a lot of trouble lately, and we need your help."The Dark Knight continued to pour his heart out. Although it had been a long time since he had last spoken to his mother, he was not embarrassed to say anything."Mother, there's one more thing I want to ask you. It's about the position of Prime Minister in the kingdom. Since I'm the one who woke you up, would you be willing to give me that position?"All this time, the Dark Knight had seemed obedient to Theobaldus, or even to his nephew Nicolaus. Yet deep in his heart, he held a grudge against them."But I hope you don't misunderstand. I don't want the title. I

Spurt! At the edge of the lake, Darrin vomited large amounts of water from his mouth after Helena had pumped his chest several times. After that, it was clear that Darrin was gasping for air, as if he had run out of oxygen. But he still couldn't open his eyes."Darrin, wake up!""Wake up, Darrin!"He faintly heard a soft and melodious voice in his ear. At the same time, a gentle hand stroked his cheek. When Darrin finally managed to open his eyes, he saw a beautiful figure sitting right in front of him."Your Highness..."Helena was no longer wearing the leather mask that had sunk to the bottom of the lake. With her hair and clothes still wet, she looked exceptionally beautiful."Thank goodness you're awake!" Helena couldn't hide the happiness on her face as she saw the young man begin to open his eyes. Darrin might not be able to see it, but the feelings in the princess's heart for him had grown much deeper and stronger than before.Earlier, when Helena had seen Nicolaus about to hit

They did not approach the top of the tower, nor did they dare do so without Nicolaus' orders. But they were ready at a moment's notice."Darrin!" Hector shouted, clenching both fists. He knew how devastating the strike of a cultivator at the peak of the King level could be when unleashed at full power. As he had just witnessed. On the other side, as if Hector's presence meant nothing to him, Nicolaus rose from his kneeling position, clutching the vial in his hand.
