The Maverick Heir

CHAPTER TWO

Edwin managed to wake up but his head hurts and he winced in pain. “Dammit!” He cursed.

His eyes scanned the environment. “Where am I?” 

The room was painted in bright navy blue and there was an amazing furniture inside. “Thank goodness you are awake.” He turned around and noticed someone entered the room.

“Max. Where is this place? What is happening?” Edwin asked.

“Oh this is actually my room. Valerie informed me to come and pick you up in front of her premises and when I got there it looked like you were dead.” Max explained.

He stepped forward and sat down by the bed while still holding eye contact with Edwin. “What is going on with you?” Max asked.

A whole lots of memory rushed back to Edwin’s head. He recalled Valerie cheating on him and then asking for a divorce. Joelington her new boyfriend also laid his hand on him and that his how he ended up here.

“Are you really crying over a woman? Come on Edwin. You should be thankful that you quickly know the type of woman you are dealing with. Imagine she had given birth for you and it was another man.”

Max had a point. It would have hurt knowing that Valerie was carrying the baby of another man.

Max reached out to the bowl he had brought and handed it over to Edwin. It was a bowl of cereals and milk. “This will give you strength” He said and watched as Edwin chewed . “When you are done  eating we are going somewhere.” He announced.

“Where are we going?” Edwin asked, pausing his meal.

“We are going to meet someone” He replied.

“Wait, are you joking with me right now? Max this is too good to be true.” Edwin stared at his friend in total disbelief. 

Currently they were at the door of Edwin’s house and an old man who appeared to be in his late fifties was there with them. 

The man introduced himself as Edwin’s distant uncle. “Please I am sorry to say but there are some jokes that are too expensive.” Edwin stated, while staring at the old man. “I was told I lost all my family members a long time ago.”

“I am your uncle Edwin.  Look I am really sorry that I am only finding you right now. Your father hid you away from me and it was hard to locate you.”

Edwin was still recovering from the shock when his uncle spoke about his father. Back when Edwin was much younger, he was unaware of his real family.

Edwin lived in a very special home for kids that never had parents. 

After he was grown, Edwin was told that the lady catering for him found him outside the orphanage homes crying. “Father? Are you talking about the man that left me at an orphanage house?” Edwin asked his tone laced with anger.

“You are not getting it Edwin. Okay let me introduce myself to you. My name is Isaac Maverick and your father, my brother is Jack Maverick. You were born into the Maverick family. We were in big trouble and it required your father to hide your existence from everybody.”

Isaac gazed at Edwin with a look of sadness in his eyes. “In those days, our family company which your father was leading at that time was having a big dispute with some Mafia lords because of a partnership. Many of our arch rivals took advantage and decided to make the situation very intensed.” Isaac explained and paused for a while.

He was allowing Edwin settle with everything  he was saying. “The Mafia lords felt that our family cheated them and they went after your father.” He added.

“Is that everything? What happened to my father?” Edwin asked, eager to learn more about his family.

“Jack told me that he could settle everything and my mind was at rest because I trusted him. I should have taken the decision to fight the Mafia lords maybe the tragic event that occurred would not have happened.” He replied, looking down at his feet in sadness.

“What tragic event?”

Isaac sighed and looked up at Edwin. “Your father is dead. He was found lifeless in his car. According to the eye witness he was holding a bottle of baby formula. The Mafia lords knew that your father had a child and begin to look for you. When I discovered what they wanted, I made it a decision that I was going to search the whole world for you.”

Everything Isaac had said only made Edwin emotional. He was at the verge of tears. So his father had died trying to save him and he had always harbored hate for him.

Despite the pain in his heart, he was also happy because he was not going to be alone in this world. He finally have an uncle to rely upon.

“Edwin, you are my nephew. I am very proud to see that you have grown without any scratch. I know that your father is going to be proud.” He stepped closer and placed his hand on Edwin’s shoulder.

“I want you to come back with me to the Maverick mansion. Your father left a very big empire behind and it is our duty to help run the business so that it will not crash. I want you to become the heir of the Maveric’s empire.”

Edwin turned around to look at Max and his friend had a smile on his face.  They grew up earning everything with hustle and grit but right now they were going to be rich.

Edwin was not going to leave his friend behind. “Very well uncle, I am going to come with you but not this moment.”

“Why?”

“There are some business that I need to settle in this city. Before you came into my life, I had a job and it is only right that I resign from the job and also settle other business.” 

Edwin’s mind was still focused on Joelington and Valerie.
