“That’s how I like it.” 

“Yes, just like that.”

Edwin paid attention carefully and heard the soft moan coming from Valerie’s room.

After a long day at work, he had just returned from his duty post as a body guard and wanted to give a special surprise to Valerie because it was her birthday.

His thoughts were spiraling and his mind were telling him things that he did not want to even believe.

To confirm his suspicion he knocked on the door and there was a silence. “Valerie darling, please open the door.” He said softly.

Valerie and Edwin lived in separate houses. Valerie had rented an apartment and gave the keys to Edwin so he could come any time he wanted.

Again he knocked on the door for the second time and his ears picked up on someone cursing underneath their breath. “Valerie. Please open the door!” He knocked the door very hard.

Again there was no answer but his ears heard someone wearing their clothes and then footsteps approaching the door. “Who is in there with you Valerie?” He asked with panic running through his mind.

Seeing that no one was ready to answer, Edwin stepped back and sized up the door for a moment before planting his boot and breaking it open.

He walked inside and froze at the sight before him. Valerie was covered in a blanket and another man wearing his clothes. “What is going on here?” He asked in surprise. “Valerie please don’t tell me you are cheating on me.”

He did not want to think it is true even though everything proved it is. Edwin was someone that has always seen Valerie to be sweet and kind. He never thought she will ever cheat on him.

They were married and have been living together for three years. “You will have to fix that door.” Valerie replied, pointing at her broken door.

“Who is this man and what is he doing here?” Edwin asked, his anger flaring up as she was avoiding his question.

“Since you decided to come find out yourself, then let me introduce you to Joelington my new boyfriend.” She said with a smile all over her face.

“This cannot be true.” Edwin replied wiping off his face.

“It is not a dream darling. Joelington and I have been seeing each other for a while and our energy matched.”

“You are married!” Edwin yelled at her.

Joelington returned to the bed after he was done dressing and leaned in for a kiss. That was it. Edwin could not take it any more. He rushed forward and grabbed the man by his shirt, shoving him to the wall.

“Oh my God!” Valerie yelled, covering her mouth in shock. 

Edwin turned around to face Valerie and he is met with a nerve cracking slap across the face.

“I am tired of you.” She said and rushed out of the bed with the blanket in her hands. She goes to check up on Joelington, while Edwin favored his cheeks stunned by what she has done.

Valerie has never raised her voice on him talk more of even her hand. “That is it. I am breaking up with you.” She said after confirming that Joelington is alright.

“How can you do this to us?” Edwin asked with a soft voice. His heart was aching and his world slowly crumbling.

“Since no one has told you the truth, then let me tell you.” She said and cleared her throat. “You are broke and wretched. You don’t bring anything to the table” 

Each words struck with Edwin. He did not know how to react to what has been said about him. “But why this very moment. Today was supposed to be your birth day and I brought you flowers.” He said pointing at the flower on the floor. 

Edwin turned to Joelington, who was staring at him with a frown on his face. “So it is this clown that instigated you into this break up huh?”

Valerie chuckled and shakes her head in embarrassment. “I am not happy with the present state of our relationship because you are not there to buy me the things that I need.” She said and then points to Joelington.

“Take a look at him. He is smart and very rich.” 

“So that is what it is all about? The money” Edwin replied heart broken by her reasons.

“If it is not about the money then it is not about anything.” Valerie replied.

Joelington cleared his throat and stepped forward with a smile on his face. “Aceept your loss bro. You don’t deserve to be with such a precious woman. She is beautiful and very curvy, while you are just a miserable thing.” He said and laughed at Edwin.

Edwin turned around and noticed the glass cup by the side of the bed. He was extremely angry that he rushed forward and picked up the object. “Don’t you think about it!” Valerie yelled and cling unto Joelington for support.

“Screw the both of you.” Edwin replied and threw the glass filled with water at them.

The glass almost met Joelington in the face, while the water splashed onto Valerie. “I am calling 911.” Valerie declared and reached for her phone.

Edwin cleaned his almost teary eyes with the back of his palm. Apart from surprising her with a very big gift, Edwin was going to announce that he was promoted at work but it was obvious none of it mattered. “Do you love me? I mean even if it is just little?” Edwin asked as Valerie was ringing the emergency line.

“Read my lips. I don’t love you. No poor man should deserve to be loved. I cannot sacrifice my emotion on an empty bank.” Her words gave Edwin a hard hitting reality.

None of everything he has ever done mattered at this point. “I am only trying to hold myself because Valerie is with me. I should be beating the hell out of you right now.” Joelington spoke with anger in his eyes. “You can do nothing.” Edwin boasted.

Joelington rushed forward and the both of them starts to fight. He punched Edwin in the face repeatedly and did not give him a chance to retaliate. 

Edwin’s nose was bleeding and his eyes swollen. “Next time you will learn never to cross my path again.
