"Sir, you're wearing a suit; that's quite rare. What's the occasion?" Jasper chuckled lightly, staring at Jeremy, who was sitting relaxed on the sofa.
They had gotten to the restaurant and were now waiting for Mr. Jian.
"And they feel so darn uncomfortable," Jeremy rolled his eyes, looking down at the suit on his body.
He hadn't exactly changed since yesterday. He didn't really have any spare clothes.
The Raven family had made sure to throw the one he wore the day before away. So he had no other choice but to keep wearing it.
"Besides, I got married yesterday," Jeremy added, a grin spreading onto his face.
"Married?" Jasper froze, not believing his ears as he stared at Jeremy.
"Alright, stop acting as if you've never heard something like that in your life," Jeremy scoffed, waving his hand at Jasper, who immediately snapped back to his senses.
Jasper sighed and didn't know what to say. If all those ladies in the wasteland who were after Jeremy heard the news, who knew what they would do.
He couldn't help but swallow the invisible lump in his throat, knowing well, this was a secret he had to die with, even if he didn't want to.
"Tell me, have you started the investigations?" Jeremy asked, his voice turning serious.
"I've looked into it," Jasper nodded, also turning serious.
"On the day of the fire, according to what I found, the fire was deliberate and I think it was meant to kill you," Jasper explained, his voice becoming cold.
"Kill me?" Jeremy's expression changed as he wondered what Jasper was talking about.
"Before the fire, we found out that your half-brother had embezzled a large sum from the company and had pinned the blame on you."
"He planned to use the fire to get rid of you; that way it'll be more like a retribution to your actions and the case would never be opened again."
Jeremy's expression instantly became ice cold the instant he heard this. He had always thought the fire was accidental. But then after thinking about it, he realized something was wrong and had asked Jasper to look into it.
He didn't expect it to be this way. Kelvin's selfish actions had caused Sarah to lose half of her face and live in contempt for five years.
He had caused the restaurant a lot of losses. That was far too ruthless.
"So what happened when I didn't die?" Jeremy came back to his senses and asked, his mouth curled up into a smile.
"Well, seeing this didn't work, he took your credit and then the evidence of the framing he had prepared came into light, so naturally, your father banished you to the wasteland," Jasper replied, clicking his tongue; a hint of disdain could be seen in his eyes.
"I see," Jeremy chuckled and reclined on the sofa. On the day he was banished, Kelvin had played the pitiful brother and begged his father to send him to the wasteland instead.
But why send him to the wasteland? Why didn't he agree to send him to prison directly? He could have found a way to contact the prisoners there to make his life hell, right?
Unless what he really wanted was to kill him and get away with it without any suspicion. After all, the fire incident failed. If he died in the wasteland, no one would bother to know why that had happened.
"Jasper, I've got another task for you," Jeremy spoke, his eyes narrowing.
"Look into the assassination attempts I faced from the first year till the fifth year in the wasteland; I want to know who was behind it all."
"Understood," Jasper instantly pulled out his phone to make arrangements for it.
"What about the situation regarding my mother's death and also David's death?" Jeremy asked, his voice softening up.
"We are still looking into it, because the situation surrounding your mother's death has been over twenty years; it's a bit harder to look into." Jasper thought for a moment and gave a reply.
"As for David, I think we have a mole in our midst; else we wouldn't have suffered that much loss that day and David wouldn't have had to die," Jasper concluded, also clenching his fist.
He and David were the right-hand men of Jeremy. And they were close. Though not as close as David was to Jeremy.
But nevertheless, David's death also hit him as hard as it hit Jeremy.
"Alright, let's not decide yet. Also remember, we need to move quietly so as not to alert the snake," Jeremy reminded.
"Yes, Sir," Jasper nodded, also visibly calming down.
"We..."
Just as Jeremy was about to continue speaking, the door of the private room was pushed open and a tall, lanky figure in glasses walked in...
"I'm sorry for keeping you here," Jian apologized the moment he stepped in, his gaze landing on Jeremy and Jasper.
Seeing them, he couldn't help but swallow the lump in his throat, at the same time remembering what had happened a few years back.
These two had come to save him. He still remembered that fact clearly. But what he remembered more was the horrifying scene that took place right after.
With their strength, if they decided to start a family, they would become easily unrivaled even in the Capital.
Even his family had paid a painful price back then just to get them to act.
"Have a seat," Jeremy's voice came, pulling Jian back to his senses.
Adjusting his glasses, he sat down, facing Jeremy and Jasper.
"Alright, I won't waste your time; let's get down to business," Jeremy broke the silence, leaning forward, his expression also becoming serious.
"Mr. Jian, Mr. Jian..." A voice called as the door of the private room was pushed open and a man in his early sixties rushed into the private room.
"I forgot to give you the invitation for the banquet; that's my mistake," the man continued, not seeing Jasper and Jeremy as his attention was focused on Jian.
"I apologize for that but..." He proceeded, but stopped halfway
the moment he laid eyes on Jeremy and Jasper.

Jeremy raised his brows, looking at Jasper."Yes, sir; don't you know, it was his granddaughter the government hired us to save," Jasper answered, nodding."But since you didn't come with us, he didn't see you, so he didn't know who you were," Jeremy carried on."Also, he's the head of the Ravencroft family, Jacob Ravencroft.""Oh," Jeremy nodded and then turned away, letting Jasper ask the old man what he wanted to.Jacob, on the other hand, felt his heart was about to burst out of his chest.Th

"Huh?" Sarah blinked, not believing her ears."Grandmother, I don't quite understand?" She frowned, her expression already darkening like the cloud."I said divorce him," Mabel repeated, not caring about the frown etched on Sarah's face."Why?" Sarah questioned, her fist clenched tightly as she stared at her grandmother."Because I said so," Mabel snorted, her voice cold as she stared back at Sarah."I'm sorry, I can't," Sarah refused, shaking her head."How dare you disobey me?" Mabel's brows narrowed as she stared at Sarah."He's just an illegitimate son of the Raven family, destined never to achieve anything in this life," she scoffed, her gaze landing on Jeremy."Divorce him and get married to Kelvin instead; that way the bond between our families would become even stronger," she urged, her tone laid with urgency."I'm sorry, but I can't do that," Sarah refused, shaking her head, her voice firm, leaving no room for arguments."What exactly do you see in a loser like him, huh?" Sarah stared at her face in the mirror, still not believing what she was seeing. Her hands moved as she gently touched her smooth, white, jade-like face which had been restored. No, this was even smoother and clearer than the past.In just one night, he had accomplished it. The face that everyone had belittled her for five years.Everyone had treated her like she was unworthy of living and yet, that same face she thought had no cure had been solved by this seemingly very ordinary husband of hers.Tears streaked down Sarah's face as she touched her face gently, still not believing what was happening.Jeremy, on the other hand, was rummaging through his bag, searching for something.A minute later, he fished out a picture. Quickly, he stared at the picture, then raised his head and looked at Sarah.Jeremy blinked, as he couldn't believe what he was seeing. Instantly, he rubbed his eyes and took another look at the picture, then at Sarah. After a while, Jeremy collapsed back to the bed.
