Chapter one
"Home, sweet home!" A young man muttered under his breath as he alighted from the plane, carrying a small, beat-up, old bag.A small smile was plastered on his face as he walked out of the airport, his movement slow but steady.Soon enough, the young man, Jeremy, stepped out of the airport. Taking in a deep breath, he looked around, and once again, the familiar view of the city settled into his mind.At the same time, memories of the past also slowly awakened. As the illegitimate son of the Raven family, he was treated worse than a dog.His mother had died from an illness when he was aged three, and he was taken back to the Raven family house.Since then, he faced countless torments from his stepmother, negligent father, and his half-brother and sister. Finally, five years ago, his brother and sister embezzled quite a sum from the company and framed him for it.Angrily, his father banished him and sent him to the wastelands. The wastelands were a place of death. Anyone who went there
Chapter two
"Huh?" Charles froze and slowly turned around, staring at Jeremy, not believing what the latter had just said."How dare you demand a new suit?" Charles exploded once again, veins bulging out of his neck."You ungrateful brat. We fed and clothed you for years, and yet you're still making this outrageous demand," Alice pointed at Jeremy, her eyes holding disgust."You fed me?" Jeremy chuckled, clicking his tongue while shaking his head."So eating leftovers from your meals is now called feeding, right?" He asked, raising a brow."As for clothing, you've always given me your son's used items; I never got anything, so how is that clothing?""You...""That's enough," Charles interrupted, his face burning up in embarrassment. He knew he couldn't allow Jeremy to continue talking; else he was going to spill out all they had done over the years."Jeremy, get into the car, take Kelvin's old suit and change into it; don't be too greedy," Charles ordered, his voice firm, leaving no room for any
Chapter three
The room fell silent for a moment, no one saying anything. Jeremy had stopped in his tracks, but he was now close to Sarah."Are you sure about this?" Sarah's gentle voice came after a long moment of silence. The slight hesitation within her could be felt."Yes, I am," Jeremy answered, sounding rather firm, his gaze locked on Sarah."And what would you do after seeing my face?" Sarah questioned, still not turning around. But one could see her fingers tightened around the hem of her clothes."Well..." Jeremy stuttered, trying to find the right words to use, but he just couldn't find them."You don't need to be confused; everyone was like that, believing they could stand the sight of me before they saw my face," Sarah chuckled lightly, the self-deprecation within those chuckles could be felt."It's better you leave, just go on; I won't restrict your movements; after a month we'll get our divorce," Sarah continued, a gentle sniff sounded beneath the veil."You don't need to worry about t
Chapter four
He couldn't believe what he was hearing. So she was the one who had saved him five years ago.He could still remember that incident and it was as clear as day.As usual, the family of four set out to eat at a restaurant. But then he also happened to be working at the same restaurant.Somehow, the fire started and people rushed out, but unfortunately, some people were trapped within, including his parents and siblings.Without hesitation, he rushed in to save them all, making one trip at a time, rushing forth and back. That day, he had saved Sarah too. But then he couldn't be too bothered to look at her face. After the last round, he rushed back in to search and see if there was anyone who was left in the fire.Upon seeing no one, he rushed out, but in the end, he was trapped. It was Sarah who had rushed back in to help him.And while they were at it, she fell on the floor directly into the fire; luckily, it was only half of her face.By the time they came out, she had passed out due t
Chapter five
Sarah stared at her face in the mirror, still not believing what she was seeing. Her hands moved as she gently touched her smooth, white, jade-like face which had been restored. No, this was even smoother and clearer than the past.In just one night, he had accomplished it. The face that everyone had belittled her for five years.Everyone had treated her like she was unworthy of living and yet, that same face she thought had no cure had been solved by this seemingly very ordinary husband of hers.Tears streaked down Sarah's face as she touched her face gently, still not believing what was happening.Jeremy, on the other hand, was rummaging through his bag, searching for something.A minute later, he fished out a picture. Quickly, he stared at the picture, then raised his head and looked at Sarah.Jeremy blinked, as he couldn't believe what he was seeing. Instantly, he rubbed his eyes and took another look at the picture, then at Sarah. After a while, Jeremy collapsed back to the bed.
Chapter six
"Huh?" Sarah blinked, not believing her ears."Grandmother, I don't quite understand?" She frowned, her expression already darkening like the cloud."I said divorce him," Mabel repeated, not caring about the frown etched on Sarah's face."Why?" Sarah questioned, her fist clenched tightly as she stared at her grandmother."Because I said so," Mabel snorted, her voice cold as she stared back at Sarah."I'm sorry, I can't," Sarah refused, shaking her head."How dare you disobey me?" Mabel's brows narrowed as she stared at Sarah."He's just an illegitimate son of the Raven family, destined never to achieve anything in this life," she scoffed, her gaze landing on Jeremy."Divorce him and get married to Kelvin instead; that way the bond between our families would become even stronger," she urged, her tone laid with urgency."I'm sorry, but I can't do that," Sarah refused, shaking her head, her voice firm, leaving no room for arguments."What exactly do you see in a loser like him, huh?" Mab
Chapter seven
Sarah's expression changed the moment she heard this. How could she bear to accept this bet?It was all a trap and she knew it. Mr. Jian of the Bai family was not someone who was easy to meet or please, not to begin talking about matters of investment."Are you going to accept it or not?" Denis's mocking voice came, pulling Sarah back to her senses."Fine..." Sarah bit her lower lip, her hands clenched into a fist; a flash of determination rose in her eyes.Jeremy had restored her face and given her a new life. Even if she had to crawl to hell, she would be willing. She couldn't allow her family to get what they wanted. When she was disfigured, they were the same set who had nearly forced her to despair, and now they wanted her to abandon the only man who didn't mock her and even helped her.The liquid he had used on her—who knew how much it had cost? She knew money couldn't buy something like that.Besides, she had three days to prepare. With her capabilities, she was sure she would
Chapter eight
"Sir, you're wearing a suit; that's quite rare. What's the occasion?" Jasper chuckled lightly, staring at Jeremy, who was sitting relaxed on the sofa. They had gotten to the restaurant and were now waiting for Mr. Jian."And they feel so darn uncomfortable," Jeremy rolled his eyes, looking down at the suit on his body.He hadn't exactly changed since yesterday. He didn't really have any spare clothes. The Raven family had made sure to throw the one he wore the day before away. So he had no other choice but to keep wearing it."Besides, I got married yesterday," Jeremy added, a grin spreading onto his face."Married?" Jasper froze, not believing his ears as he stared at Jeremy."Alright, stop acting as if you've never heard something like that in your life," Jeremy scoffed, waving his hand at Jasper, who immediately snapped back to his senses.Jasper sighed and didn't know what to say. If all those ladies in the wasteland who were after Jeremy heard the news, who knew what they would d
Chapter nine
"I... I... am sorry," the old man quickly bowed to Jeremy and Jasper, but his gaze was fixed particularly on Jasper."I didn't know you had guests, Mr. Jian," the old man said again, apologizing for the second time."I'm sorry, Sir Jasper," the old man apologized again, turning to Jasper this time."I'll take my leave," he added and turned around, wanting to hurry out of the private room."Wait a minute, old man," Jasper chuckled, stopping the old man in his tracks."Do you know him, Jasper?" Jeremy raised his brows, looking at Jasper."Yes, sir; don't you know, it was his granddaughter the government hired us to save," Jasper answered, nodding."But since you didn't come with us, he didn't see you, so he didn't know who you were," Jeremy carried on."Also, he's the head of the Ravencroft family, Jacob Ravencroft.""Oh," Jeremy nodded and then turned away, letting Jasper ask the old man what he wanted to.Jacob, on the other hand, felt his heart was about to burst out of his chest.Th
Chapter Ten
"She wasn't abducted, sir," Jian answered, his head down."And she's not sick either," he added quickly, head still down as if he didn't want to look at Jeremy."Then what exactly is wrong if none of these is happening to her?" Jeremy frowned slightly, staring at Jian."Five days ago, she just slept and has refused to wake up ever since," Jian answered slowly, his voice low, as though he was afraid Jeremy and Jasper wouldn't believe what he was saying.Jeremy's expression changed slightly and he sat up, looking even more serious now."I've called the best doctors over, but they couldn't tell what's happening and they couldn't wake her up either," Jian continued after a while, the sadness in his voice could be felt even more.He had been looking for a way to find treatment for his daughter until he heard Jeremy was back in Silver City.He had seen their powers the last time they had rescued him and he knew about cultivators and how their powers transcended anything he knew.So he had c
