It was the next morning and Marcus was still trying to get dressed when he heard a knock on his door. He buttoned his suit breast over the crisp white shirt that completed his three piece suit as he spoke out.

"Come in.

The door opened and Rachel walked into the room, shutting the door behind her. She had a small smile on her face and a hint of gleam in her eyes. Mostly because she was going to see her father after a week and five days. This had been the longest she had ever gone without seeing him and it had been eating her up not being able to know how he was faring but not anymore. Soon, she would see him.

Rachel's smile lessened when she noticed that Marcus was still dressing up. His bag still laid on his bed with some documents spilling out of it. She checked her watch. 7:31am. She pouted.

"You're not ready yet. It's after 7. Why aren't you done?"

Marcus sighed, the text from last night still weighing on his mind. He knew Rachel was going to meet her father, Bruce at the hospital

The dreaded day had finally arrived. The day that neither Marcus nor Rachel had expected to come so soon. Marcus' car pulled up to the courthouse where he was meant to get married. He got out of the car looking handsome in an all black suit with matching accessories. Marcus looked at the building and let out a huge breath. He felt a hand on his tense shoulder."Don't be nervous. I know you didn't expect this. You're only doing this to help Rachel and me and for that I'm grateful. You are an amazing man and I can't say that I am more proud of you than I am at this moment."Marcus turned to see his grandfather with a proud smile on his face. Although Marcus was accepting of what he had gotten himself into, his mind was still engrossed with the kind of life he would have to live when he was actually married to someone. He gave Elias a smile and walked into the courthouse with him, Micah and Eric walking closely behind him.Once they entered the building, the group was greeted by the cour

CHP 61Days go by with Marcus and Rachel still settling into their new life. Ever since the court wedding the house had been a bit tense with no one really knowing where it came from. The only thing that showed that Marcus and Rachel were even remotely married was the fact that they started to have breakfast and dinner together with the family but apart from that they had both been cold towards one another more so after what Marcus had said in the car on their way home from the court house. It wasn’t that harsh considering the reason that they got married but Rachel had taken it to heart. All the more reason for the house to be as tense as it was. Rachel had kept to herself and Marcus had minded his businesses both in the company and out of it. Out of it being not only having to wait until Scarlett got back to him about the information he leaked to her about Davon but also with dealing with Rachel’s family. Her uncle’s to be precise. But even with them at a slight impasse, Rachel had

"You do not speak to me that way." Marcus said as he took a step closer to them showing his dominance in a place that wasn't even his but it did nothing to put the men in their place even for a while. They belted out another laugh and waved him away like he was a fly. That was what you get with rich people and Marcus was tired of it. "Get out of here. Just because luck happened to shine on you for a while you choose to make a mockery of yourself. Go back to your place and let the people of a higher station speak." Grayson shouted out, his eyes shooting daggers at Marcus. Marcus moved forward ready to land a punch on both men's faces. Judging by both their builds they would be too slow to stop him before he landed a hit. A good enough punch before security would get him out of the building. Fair enough. His palms had already balled up, getting ready for the beat down ahead of him when a soft hand rested on him, halting him.Marcus turned around and on seeing Rachel's calm but assured

After Marcus had helped Rachel get her company back by that bold move he made, Rachel was in the mansion a lot less. Her presence was missed by few but to some others they didn't really mind the vacuum she left. Marcus was one of the latter people. They weren’t on bad terms anymore but he couldn’t say that he missed her presence anymore than he could say that he loved matcha. Ps. he hated it. His new wife was away from the house most of the time since she had a company to run and her being away gave him more time to focus on his own work. Whenever she would get back from work she would have dinner with him and the family but mostly didn't look him in the eye.Marcus never thought much of it as he placed his files into his suitcase and stood upright. He had other things to think about such as this conference that he was meant to attend. It was for the CEO's or stand in heads of several business empires. The conference was a way for them to mingle and discuss business ideas and if poss

Marcus' eyes opened. He could see a sliver of bright light around him through the slits in his eyes which caused him to shut his eyes again as a sharp pain went up his shoulder. The light was giving him a slight headache. His wrists felt sore and his face ached. He tried to turn his body a bit, feeling very uncomfortable but a sharp pain shot up his spine and into his head eliciting a pained groan from his lips. Marcus slowly opened his eyes, wincing as the harsh light that flooded the hospital room. Blinking away the fuzziness, he found himself in the sterile environment, hooked up to various machines that beeped and whirred, monitoring his vitals. Pain coursed through his body, a constant reminder of the attack that had brought him here. The attack that almost got him killed. The attack that killed someone else. As he tried to push himself up, a nurse who he hadn't noticed was in the room earlier, rushed over, gently urging him to lie back down, her hands soft and her face full of

Sarah approached Marcus' hospital bed, her expression a mixture of concern and relief. She wore a simple white blouse and jeans, her dark hair pulled back in a loose ponytail. But behind her casual appearance, Marcus could see the worry etched in the lines around her eyes as her gaze moved upon him. "You look like hell," she said with a dry chuckle, perching on the edge of the bed where he had indicated.Marcus attempted a smile, wincing as pain shot through his bruised face. "Nice to see you too, Sarah."She reached out, her hand hovering over his bandaged arm before gently settling on his uninjured shoulder. "Seriously, Marcus, I leave to travel and you get yourself into even more trouble than before.” She huffed at him before continuing. “Are you okay? When I heard what happened...""I'm fine," he interrupted, not wanting her to worry more than she already was. "A broken rib, some bruises, a mild concussion. Nothing I can't handle." He shifted slightly, trying to find a more comf

Marcus felt tension coil in his stomach. He hadn't expected them to find him here, though he should have known better. If Davon was involved in his accident then it only made sense that Scarlett would get involved as well. But he didn’t think that she would show up at the hospital of all places. "How did you get past security?" Marcus asked, though he didn't really care about the answer since they were in the room already. Scarlett's lips curled into a humorless smile. "Money opens all doors, Marcus. You should know that by now."She moved closer to the bed, her gaze sweeping over his bruised body, a small frown of concern glancing over her features. Kane remained by the door, his posture alert, eyes scanning the room for potential threats."Who was the woman?" Scarlett asked, her tone casual but her eyes sharp."A friend," Marcus replied simply. "She's leaving town tonight."Scarlett nodded, seemingly satisfied with his answer as she touched his arm."Good. You don't need distract

“Who the hell was that woman?” Rachel asked him, her brows furrowed in confusion and slight annoyance.Marcus ran a hand through his hair, not liking the fact that Scarlett and Rachel had seen one another. He sighed. “She’s no one. A friend.” He muttered shortly.“A friend who just threatened me.” Rachel retorted, dropping the bouquet in her hands on the night stand beside Marcus’ bed. She placed her hands on her hips and scoffed.“I came here to check up on you after I heard what had happened. Your family is already in the lobby trying to sort some things out. If you knew that you had a mistress or sugar mummy or whatever, you should have told me. That would have made the line in this arrangement very clear.”“Wait, hold on.” Marcus tried to stop her from blabbing away because there was no way in hell that Scarlett and he had anything going on but he was not going to tell Rachel of how he lived his life in the past.“You already knew that I had Davon and regardless of how that turn

  • Chapter One Hundred and Seventeen: PUT AWAY

The other trial between Micah against Eric took place almost immediately after the trial between Marcus and the latter. It went exactly how Marcus and the rest of the family saw it going but they didn’t expect Eric not to say anything to them or even look in their direction when he was walked out of the room. Eric and his defense failed woefully after they decided to base their defense on fallacies, goodwill and denial of the evidence. The courtroom was, like before, in shock at the turn of events. Eric Wei did not lose just one but two court cases to his own family members, all in the space of four hours. It was outrageous. A third and fourth case was meant to take place; cases by Lori Hudgins for kidnapping and extortion and Elias Wei, his own father for money laundering and fraud from the company as a fellow shareholder, but the cases were put of until the next day after everyone had had a chance to rest, regroup and reconstruct their evidence and arguments. Surprisingly though, t

In the course of the rest of the interrogation Eric had all but said that he was guilty, even when his lawyer came around and the evidence that was brought by the family to the precinct was reviewed and brought against him, he maintained his innocence. In the end Eric was taken away and was set to stand trial to determine if he would be granted bail amidst the charges that were brought against him.The trial was held the next day due to the severity and status of their name and unsurprisingly to the rest of the family, Eric was granted bail for the amount of three million dollars due to his status and the number of crimes brought up against him. Immediately after the closed hearing, Eric had told his lawyer to get the money out of his accounts but unfortunately for him Marcus and his father had blocked it and removed all the money from it through legal ways of course.Eric had to spend the next week in a jail cell while his court date drew near and the public speculated heavily on wha

  • Chapter One Hundred and Fifteen: OLD PLANS

The next day had come far too quickly and that was a good thing for Marcus because he had not slept a wink ever since he left the study and went to his room under the pretense of getting some rest. He sat on his bed with full clothing mentally preparing himself for what he knew was going to be a mentally challenging day ahead of him. A knock made him remove his head from his hands and before he could invite the person into the room, the door was opened and Micah stepped in.“Marcus. We’re all ready to leave. Is everything all right?”Marcus sighed and got up from the bed. Yes, that was another reason for his distress. His family had insisted on following him to the precinct as well. According to them, they wanted to present their separate cases on their own. Rachel for Lori who was till in hiding with her family and was under protection just in case Eric got out. Micah for the attack on his life months before and Elias for moral support and to act as a witness in any position he was n

Marcus had stormed out of the second interrogation room with Callum on his heels and an unknown feeling creeping into his soul. He shook it off, wanting to interrogate the rest of the captured men before he jumped into conclusions. Callum’s words ran off his ear as he made decisive strides towards the other interrogation room, his mind set but Callum didn’t take no for an answer. He stepped in front of Marcus and stared him down causing Marcus to stop in his tracks abruptly and glare.“What was that in there!?” Callum screamed at him, finally fed up with his bullshit. Marcus looked at him obviously not in a mood to answer the question. Callum blinked and spoke up again. “Let me repeat myself again. Why the fuck would you go off on a suspect like that? I warned you that if you acted a certain type of way then you would be removed from the premises and the investigation all together.“I did nothing out of turn.” Marcus said as a matter of fact.Callum chuckled dryly and placed his han

  • One Hundred and Thirteen: TAKING THE DEAL

Marcus and Callum had left Eric in the interrogation room with the former fuming. If it was an animation movie, smoke would be coming out of his ears and his face would be perpetually red but it wasn’t and all that could be seen was the gritting of his teeth and the reddening of the tip of his ears. He huffed as Callum tried to keep up with his pace as they walked through the hallway. “Calm down Marcus. Don’t let him get to you.” Callum spoke.“He won’t.” Marcus hissed under his breath. “Then why are you rushing down the halls?” Callum asked as he stopped Marcus in place by grabbing his arm. Marcus turned to face him, his breathing becoming even but his face betraying his emotions. “We have to get the testimonies of the other men, don’t we?” Marcus asked back.Callum let go of his arm and sighed.“We do but I don’t think you should be involved anymore, not if you’re going to be so high strung from just seeing your own uncle.”“Detective…” Marcus started to argue but Callum raised h

“Nephew you’re here. Help me. Get me away from these men.” Eric screamed out at Marcus but Marcus stayed steady in pointing the weapon at him not flinching or falling for his clearly apparent ruse. This man, still with the lies, Marcus thought to himself. Why was he so adamant with this? Why couldn’t he just be good and love his family? It was unnerving to say the least. “Save your words. We’ve caught you here. Nothing you say will get you out of this one.” Marcus hissed at him, disappointment etched on his face. “No. Hold on! You don’t understand. These men…” Eric shouted out in a bid to halt the imminent arrest but Marcus cut him off. “These men what? Do you think anything you say will be believed?” Marcus questioned.Eric pointed to the men with a wild look in his eyes, his words carefully planned out.“These men called me here through an unknown number. They threatened me that they would kill the entire family if I didn’t come to this location and give them approximately 16 mil

  • Chapter One Hundred and Eleven: CAUGHT

Marcus had gone home in expectation of the next day he was going to get his uncle for what he did but not before he called Coleman and Callum and informed them of the situation that would take place, also telling them be prepared and at the location ahead of time so that they would be able to catch not just his uncle but Ivan and his men on the kidnaping charges. He got out of his car and went into the mansion with a small smile on his face. Due to the plan, he already had formulating in his brain he was oblivious to the man who stood in front of him with a sneer on his face. Once he noticed the man, he stopped and exchanged looks. Eric stood in front of him, his arms crossed and a frown on his face. “Uncle.” Marcus said under his breath. “Nephew. Where have you been?” Eric asked. “None of your business because I don’t recall us ever speaking about my whereabouts for the day.”Eric curled his lip just as Marcus saw the briefcase in his hand.“A briefcase. • Chapter One Hundred and Ten: DOUBLECROSS

While his family had gone back home, Marcus had gone straight to the somewhat abandoned motel where Lori’s family had been kept hostage with his men in tow. He had called some of his personal guards to follow him to the location just in case green eyes or his men had alternative ideas to the meeting he had also called them about. He hadn’t cared to learn their names. It was not worth his time to be honest. He waited for some time before he could hear the purring of a car that was coming into view and pulling up to the parking lot of the building. The men from before, got down from the car, each of them giving Marcus some sort of stink eye because of the men he had standing behind him before they stepped forward and acknowledged him.“Wei. I see you brought some men with you to our meeting. Now, why would you do that?” Green eyes spoke.Marcus shrugged.“I might have you on my payroll but it doesn’t necessarily mean that I trust any one of you. These men are what you call an insurance

  • Chapter One Hundred and Nine: HIDDEN INTENTIONS

Marcus, Rachel, Micah and Elias got down from their respective cars and walked into the precinct where the evidence Marcus had promised was waiting in Coleman’s safe of personally kept evidence. Marcus looked around to make sure that they weren’t being watched and when he was sure that the coast was clear he entered into the building with the rest of his family. Some officers stood up at the mere sight of almost all the Wei family entering the precinct. It had never happened. At least, not after they had been here asking for help to find their son Marcus in the past. It was a rare sight as most of them knew that this family liked to handle their businesses on their own most times and if they were all here at the same time then something wrong was going on. The officers greeted them as they walked by and as Marcus led them straight to Eric Coleman’s office. The same man his uncle had introduced him to.“Who is it?” Coleman shouted out as he heard a rap on his door. The door opened up
