"What do you mean what am I doing here?" Dustin raged out. "I live here, Laura? Remember!"

Laura seemed perplexed. "Wait, why are you home this early?" She blurted out.

Dustin still couldn't believe his eyes. How could she dare ask him that?

"So I have ruined the perfect moment for you and this man, is that it?" Dustin frowned. He then turned to see who the hell was on his matrimonial bed.

Before he could say anything, the man asked. "Who is this son of a bitch?"

What? Son of a bitch? Dustin was hurt and angry. His fist was a ball of rage now.

Dustin took a close look at the man and realized he would be no more than a few years older than him. His hair was blonde with fair skin and pink lips. He looked like Barbie's Ken.

"Answer me, baby? Who is this?" The man asked again.

Laura bit her lips, then suddenly, her face was hard. "My love, this is...just someone I'm living with."

Dustin couldn't believe his ears. "Just someone you're--"

"--ignore him. We'll be back a minute now, okay?" Laura gave the man a kiss on the lips, even though Dustin was still in the same room!

"But my love, I'm so in the mood. And I don't buy your story. Why will he just barge into your room like that?" The man frowned.

"My love, you don't need to worry. I'm sorry, but I'll be right back!" Laura said, then was walking towards Dustin.

He was still like a statue. His whole body was numb, just like the pain he was feeling in his heart. Everything was like a dream to him. Maybe even a nightmare!

"Hey, Dustin, come outside." She said to him, then continued for the door, not waiting to get a response from him.

Like a puppet, Dustin followed behind. It was a dream and Laura was about to wake him up. Or, it must be a prank! Yes, a prank.

He followed her outside till they were far from the bedroom. Laura was already pacing around by the time he caught up with her.

"Dustin, really, why are you here? You said you'd be home late. You're never this early!"

No, so it wasn't a dream. It was...real? Dustin frowned, still staring at his wife with disbelief.

"Why...who is he? Why..."the words failed to come out. He was still so dazzled and confused.

"That's Tobin Conrad, one of the youngest millionaires in New York! You don't know him? He manages Conrad motors and guess what? He's my key to success."

Dustin stared in shock, then he asked, "But this still doesn't explain why you are cheating on me."

Laura rolled her eyes. "It's part of my job, Dustin. If I don't do this, how do you think I'll get customers and increase my car sales!"

"But...there are ways to do this. Like I've said, you should make friends with people...build your connections, increase your circle of friends."

Laura snickered. "That can never work in the real world. Besides, what do you even know about a good job? I'm sorry, but I'm doing what I have to do to survive."

"You should still respect me as your husband! You claimed you loved me."

"And I do. I just love money more."

"I can make it. I'm not totally hopeless. I can get a good job, and I'll provide for you. I even got you a gift at last, something you always treasure."

"Let me say, was it worth thousands of dollars, or millions? If yes, then I'll send Tobin out of the room right now."

Dustin's mouth was left open, hanging.

"So, because I don't have that much money, I don't deserve respect and love from my wife?" he asked her.

"What will you do if Tobin says he wants to get married to you now, huh? Will you divorce me and still claim it's part of your job?" He had to ask her.

Laura didn't even take a while before she replied.

"Yes, Tobin. I would get married to him right ahead. You keep saying you'll get rich soon, but until then, you don't have any say in this marriage. You deserve to be treated like trash, I'm sorry but the world is not fair."

"The world is not fair? Laura! How can you say this?" Dustin yelled out in rage. He was even more hurt seeing that Laura didn't regret what she'd said or done.

"I just, why would you say something like this. Then why did you marry me in the first place? Why? If you didn't love me?"

"Sorry but I needed to quickly get married to anyone to please my parents. You know how they can be? But I've waited that maybe someday you'll get rich, but you're still so poor." Laura explained.

"But Laura, we just got married! You know success doesn't happen over night–"

"You're just being a cry baby now. Get over it, Dustin! This is not a magical world. I only love rich men, so I'll never love you the way you want. I'm doing you a favor by sending you away now!"

Dustin's eyes widened in shock. "Sending me away…what is that supposed to mean? Laura, say you're sorry for this mess! Say it."

"My love, I'm missing you already! Come on!" Tobin's shouting was heard.

"Coming, my love!" Laura said. Then she turned to Dustin. "You know what? I think you should leave. Get out there and make some money. Be a man!"

Dustin's eyes were filled with anger and pain. His throat was dry and bitter and his chest hurt like a heavy weight was on it. "Laura, I am trying my best. I really am--"

"--it's not enough for me, okay? Find somewhere to crash for the night. For a few nights! When you have enough money, you can come back to me. I'll gladly take you in."

Dustin sniffed in, then her words replayed in her head and he scoffed. "What makes you think I'll come back to you once I have my money?"

"Because you're a puppet of mine. In love with me, in love with the concept of love. You should seek power and money, but you're so soft hearted. I know you'll come back begging for me to take you back."

"After this stunt you just pulled? Never."

Laura said proudly. "Men like you are scared ass bitches. You never stand your ground. You never know your worth. Not that you're worth much anyway."

"Thanks for your concern, Laura. I'll leave and you'll regret this day. I promise you that."

Laura came close, standing face to face with Dustin until she could feel his breath against hers.

"You know why I won't regret this? Because you'll never reach my level. I've been working for four years now. I have millions in my account, I own this house."

"It will take you years before you can reach my level, and I would have even made more progress by then. Especially now that I have Tobin Conrad in my life. Now, get out of my house."

Finally, he turned around and began to walk out. He couldn't believe how she could change so sudden. He turned back to look at her and saw that she was smiling.

"Laura, I'll never forget this day."

"Good riddance!" Laura said, not hiding the snicker in her eyes.

Dustin muttered under his breath. "Yea, good riddance."

  • Lies

On this cloudy morning there are growing patches of blue, the sort of hue that is soft and bright at the same time. So, on this day that could bring rain or sunshine, I'm hoping for both, for the chance of a rainbow and to feel so much more because the day is blessed with clouds.Light grew steadily outside until the curtains glowed just the same as stained glass. Kevin stuck his head behind the fabric to survey what the day might bring. The road was slick with water, though the puddles remained quite still, no hint of rain still falling. Above the clouds were still grey but without the denseness of yesterday, allowing patches of blue to form.In good moods a writer may paint words that are fine wine and soft music; words that contain more healing medicine than all the drugs created by man. He probably would
