The Prodigy's Return

CHAPTER 6

The next day, Jack sat down in the library staring at his white mask.  He was about to hold a conference meeting with his directors. 

No one knew his identity except for Joe and his personal assistant. The notification for the call came through and Jack wore his white mask before picking up the call. “Good after noon sir” The directors chorused.

“What am I hearing about a law suit?” Jack asked, ignoring their greetings.

“We learnt that it was filed by Mike and his wife, both claiming that the production failed to finalized their contract with Ava before breaking away” 

“I want every information on Mike I can get. Do a background check right now” He instructed and they all complied, going silent and searching through their phones and laptops.

“I have one information over here” One of the directors broke the silence. “Apparently Mike owns the biggest oil company in the east coast”

“Do we have a share in that oil company?” Jack asked.

“Before he died, Lord Anthony bought a ten percent share from the company and he was granted exclusive rights to a making decision as regarding the well being of the company.

An idea popped up in Jack’s head.

“I want the names of the other share holders. Get their account detail and transfer a sum of fifteen million dollars each to their account” 

“But sir, the market,.”

“Appears to me that some of you are too slow” Jack revealed, shaking his head in disappointment. “The reason I want their address and account number is to influence them to allow me buy off the company” Jack explained.

“Sir, it is a smart idea. But the problem is that we have a major block buster movie coming up and we need all the money we can get for the production” 

“Simple maths won’t do you harm. When I buy off the oil company, we get a dividend by the end of the month and we use the money to fund the production “ Jack explained.

There is silence amongst the directors after his logical explanation.

“I want everyone to get to work. Schedule a meeting with these share holders in the company and when the time is right, I will speak to them on the phone.” Jack instructed and afterwards turned the TV off.

He checked his phone and realized his appointment with Monalisa’s doctor is getting late. She had pleaded with him to get a result of a test she had undergone.

As Jack walked out of the mansion, he checked the phone to see Ava was on the news once again, throwing subtle shades at his production and also at Monalisa. “She still doesn’t want to learn” He said, shaking his head in disappointment.

When he arrived at the hospital, Jack moved to the doctor’s office. “You must be Mr. Jack, Monalisa’s personal assistant” the doctor suggested.

“Indeed, that is me” Jack replied.

The doctor pulled out an envelope and dropped it on the table. “That is the result of her test scan” He replied and Jack picked up the envelope. 

He unsealed it and read the content. “A brain tumor!” Jack asked, his voice getting loud.

“I am sorry but it is the truth. Miss Monalisa has brain tumor at its early stage. It can still be treated and hopefully it will go” The doctor assured.

Jack was not satisfied with the doctor’s explanation. “Doctor, she is willing to do anything to allow the brain tumor go” Jack explained, anxiety slowly creeping in.

“I will schedule a program with her in the next couple of days and we will see what can be done from there” 

Jack got up from the chair and exchanged hands with the doctor before heading out of the hospital.

On his way to the car, he stumble across Ava but instead of a usual frown, she appeared frightened to see him.

“What are you doing here?” 

“Just doing my work as a personal assistant” Jack replied and tried walking away from her.

“I hope you know that Monalisa is just using you for the fame and when she is done, she is going to dump you for someone else” 

Jack rolled his eyes and placed his hand on his chin in frustration. “Ava, I don’t care about your opinions. You have an appointment then go and attend to it” He replied and stormed out of the hospital.

By the time he got to the car, his phone begins to ring and he picked it up. “After digging much into Mike’s background, I can say that there is something shady going on with this man” Jack’s personal assistant revealed.

“What are you talking about?” 

“Apparently he owns multiple hotels outside his oil investment but what is shady is that he doesn’t allow people stay in these hotels” 

Jack stayed silent for a moment, processing the words from the personal assistant. “Also a couple of days ago, one of my friends working in the biggest radio station in the city informed me of a death along the east coast, in the same location as his oil company.”

“So are you saying that he has something to do with it?” Jack asked.

“No sir, but I think Mike truly has something shady going on with him” 

Jack hung up the phone afterwards. He turned the ignition of his car but before he will drive away, a sudden thought came into his head. “Why don’t I just check one of his so-called hotels?” He thought to himself.

“At least there is no saying what one is going to find” 

When Jack is close to the hotel, he received a call from Monalisa. “Are you watching the news?” Monalisa asked.

“No, what is the problem?” He asked.

“Apparently, Ava is going around telling the media that I am slut and that I slept my way through the industry to the top. She keeps poking me and it is annoying”

“When I come back, I will handle it” Jack replied.

“Where are you by the way?” 

“On my way somewhere important,”
