The Prodigy's Return

“Congratulation Ava, you killed your role” Ava tore her gaze away from her phone and turned to look at the director with a smile plastered on her face.

“Thank you very much sir. I am really grateful” She replied as the man walks into his luxury car and drove off the car park.

Ava was waiting for her husband Jack to pick her off. She was tired of his constant failure to come on time to the production ground.

She was about to call his phone, when a black mustang drove into the production premises. The tinted windows came down and revealed Jack with a sympathetic smile on his face.

“I am really sorry for coming late. Trust me it is not my fault. The car had a couple of issue and it needed fixing” 

None of these explanation meant anything to Ava. She rolled her eyes and entered the car and they drove off.

On their way to home, Ava is going through her phone with so many smiles on her face. The comments from her role in the latest box office movie have been commended by several of her fans and many other people. “There is something I want us to talk about” 

Ava tore her gaze away from the phone and scanned her husband, her eyes squinted in confusion as she wondered what he wants to talk about.

“I understand that you have been busy,” Jack begins “But in the few times you have been given breaks, we haven’t spent a single time together” He added, making a turn down the left lane of the express road.

“You must be delusional” Ava replied shaking her head in disappointment. 

“I go out everyday and work to earn the money and bring to the table. What have you ever brought to the table, Nothing!”

Jack begins to regret his decision to bring up the topic. 

All he had ever wanted for his wife was to make a break through in the movie industry and now that she has risen to star dorm and with every day that passed, they grew distant. “You have changed” He passed a comment as they entered into the huge mansion.

“Yea, well deal with it” Ava replied.

By the time the entered the mansion, Jack begins to recollect his thought over his little argument with Ava. He shook his head at the ungratefulness that Ava seemed to have developed. “I just hope you change some day” Jack said to himself as he walked into his own personal room.

Later that evening, Jack decides to take a walk across the mansion.  When he entered the living room, he finds Ava talking to a man dressed up in a black suit with several documents on the table. “There you are,” She said and picked up one of the document and threw it to him. “Sign this” She said, returning her attention back to the strange man and continuing her conversation.

“A divorce?” Jack asked while staring at the document in disbelief.

“Do you have a problem with that?” Ava asked.

“What have I done to merit a divorce?” Jack questioned, feeling his heart slowly shattering.

“Jack, you don’t just get it do you?” Ava asked after placing her hand on her forehead. “We cannot be seen together in the public. I am a public figure!” She stressed.

“But why can’t we be seen in public” 

“Because you are broke! I cannot be seen with a broke man for someone of my status” She explained.

“Mr. Jack Anthony. Just sign the document and I will be on my way” The stranger stated.

“And who are you?” 

“I am Ava’s lawyer and we need that divorce paper as an evidence in court that my client here is eligible to marry again” He detailed.

“Wait a minute,you are breaking off our marriage because you want to settle down with another man?” Jack asked in disbelief.

“What do you expect?” Ava asked and stood up to her feet. She approached Jack and placed one of her hand on his shoulders. “I hope you understand from my point of view. You are no longer in my class anymore” She said and pulled out a pen from her hand and handed it over to Jack.

“Now sign it” She said.

Jack looked at the document and then back at Ava, who nudged him to sign the document. He closed his eyes and take a deep breath.

“I cannot believe you are forcing me to do this,” He said, trying to remain composed “But I will sign it” He added.

Jack grabbed the pen and with one last look at the document, he fought of the tears that were slowly building up in his eyes and signed the paper.

“Excellent” Ava clapped with excitement and get the paper away from him.

“Now, I will advise you get your things and leave my mansion immediately” She pointed out.

“But why are you suddenly sending me out of your house. Can’t I be given enough time to think through your decision?” Jack asked.

“My new man will not like to share this place with another man. So I suggest you leave before I call the security on you” Ava said while scanning him up and down with disgust on her face.

Jack turned around and walk away from the living room, completely broken. He never wanted his marriage to end in such a bad note. “She did not even take long to get another man to replace me” He said to himself, while packing his luggage.

As he picked their frame from the wall, Jack stared at the portrait with adoration and tears in his eyes. He genuinely loved Ava and had sacrificed everything for her to be at the top, but she threw it all on his face.

His phone begins to ring and he checked the caller I.D which was proven to be anonymous. “Hello?” He cleared his throat as he speak.

“Sorry to bother you sir. But I think there is a problem here” 

The familiar voice of his personal assistance Endrick came through his phone. “What is that?” Jack asked, wiping off his tears.

“The blogs are saying Ava and yourself has broken up. Is this true?” Endrick asked.

Jack remained silent for a moment.

She could not even wait for him to leave the house before posting their divorce on the blog. “Turns out she is marrying another man” Endrick added, the hint of confusion still laid in his voice.

“Well yes you are correct, Ava and I are no more” Jack confirmed.

“Oh my goodness! How ungrateful can she be1” He yelled through the phone. “Does she know that it was you who pushed her to her fame?” 

Jack remained silent. “Did she know how you had to make so much compromise for the movie production to boost her sale?”

Jack remained silent yet again.

“She is such an ungrateful woman!” Endrick concluded.

“That is enough. Prepare a hotel for me at the eastern coast of the city. I will be coming to lodge” Jack instructed Endrick and hang up the phone afterwards.

As he picked up his luggage, Jack concludes  in his heart that he isn’t going to allow Ava go easily. 

Just because he was a disguised heir to a great music empire doesn’t mean he should be disgraced in front of the media house.

Jack was ready to move on from Ava, but he was determined to enact his revenge.
