The Prodigy's Return

CHAPTER 5

Monalisa stared at the mirror to observe her dress. Today is her parent’s memorial service and she had taken her time to make the event lively as her parents would have wanted it.

The door opens behind her and Jack walks into the room all dressed up in a tuxedo suit. He pulled off his dark shade and approached her. “I don’t know their story, but I know how hard it is to have lost a loved one” He said in a low tone.

“It is alright. I have already gotten over their loss because I believe they are watching over me” She said with a smile on her face.

Jack was lost in the beauty of her eyes. Never as anyone been so beautiful like Monalisa. Even Ava could not compare to how gorgeous she is. “Stop looking at me like that” Monalisa playfully slapped his shoulder.

“Has anyone told you that you are so beautiful?” He asked.

“I get that a lot, but lets not get deep into it.” She said staring down at her wrist watch “We have a memorial to attend” She said and cracked a smile.

Monalisa grabbed her purse and they both walked out of the house to the venue of the memorial service.

When they arrived at the scene, Jack groaned in frustration seeing the cameramen everywhere as he parked the car at a safe spot.

Their escort helped pulling the door opened and Jack holds Monalisa’s hand as they broke through the crowd of camera men into the hall.

By the time they arrived, the service was going on pretty well and everything appeared to be almost done, when Monalisa turned around to a familiar figure seating next to  a surprise guest of Ava and Mike Doom. “What are they doing here?” Jack leaned into Monalisa’s ear and asked.

“I don’t know”

Ava and Mike rose up to their feet and approached Monalisa and Jack, who were facing the choir rendering solemn songs. “So sorry for your loss” Mike commented. “Your father used to work in one of my small warehouse. He was a dedicated worker”

“Why are you coming for the memorial if he means so much to you?” Monalisa asked, trying to remain calm.

“Listen young lady, it is not my fault that some of us have something reasonable to do in life” Mike expressed.

“Indeed, unlike some other people” Ava chipped in.

“It is now time for the great actress of our generation to give out her speech about her parents” They are caught up with the voice of the priest, who had taken the centre of the stage.

Monalisa got up to a round of applause as she approached the stage. She grabbed the mic and just when she was about to speak, her eyes landed on a tattoo at the back of Mike’s hand.

Her memory juggled to the words of her father on his death bed. “A scorpion tattoo, that is what the killer had with him” 

Monalisa snapped from her thought and seeing the scorpion tattoo takes her by shock. The crowd was silent waiting for her to speak.

Jack gazed up at her with a questioning look of his own. “My parents are the reason I am where I am today. In honor of their memory, I stand here to recall some of the things that they have done to impact my life.” 

While she is speaking, Jack got a notification from the director Joe. “Mike Doom has filled a lawsuit on behalf of Ava for dishonoring her contract.

He tore his gaze away from the phone and looked at Ava, whose attention was on Monalisa.  “Such a greedy woman!” He expressed dissatisfaction and picked up his phone and sent a text to Joe.

“And as for the killer, I want them to understand that when the time is right the law will always catch up with them” She said and dropped the mic.

Jack suspected that she was leaving the venue and helped picked up her purse and trailed behind her, till they got out of the hallway. “Why are you in a rush? The memorial is barely done yet” Jack pointed out.

“I think I know my father’s killer” She said.

“You do?”

“I think Mike Doom has something to do with his death” Monalisa revealed.

“Listen Mona, I don’t want to be a carrier of bad news but I don’t think you should go around accusing people like that” Jack suggested.

“No I am dead serious” She replied, turning her attention to Jack “Before the death of my father, he claimed that his killer had a scorpion tattoo in his right. arm. I saw a scorpion tattoo on  Mike’s right hand” 

Jack was speechless. So many thoughts came to his mind but the most important one is the law suit that Mike Doom had filed on Ava’s behalf. “That means there is more to Mike Doom than we may not know” Jack expressed his thought.

“What do you mean by that?” 

“I received a notification from Joe. He informed me that Mike has filed a law suit on behalf of Ava for dishonoring the contract between the both of us” 

There is silence in the car as we both tried to process our thought. “So are you going to answer the suit?” 

“Both Ava and Mike can do as they want, but I am not answering any law suit” He insisted. 

The crowd from the hall was beginning to step out with the paparazzi focused on both Ava and Mike as they walked out of the church.

“Mike claimed to have hired my father to work for him. I think I am not making things up. He certainly has a hand in his death” Ava suggested.

Jack turned on the ignition of the car and speed away as the cameras appeared to be coming to their direction.

Whatever Mike is hiding, he was determined to find out. He needs to dig into his background and find out about the truth of his personality.
