“Rhys, do you mind becoming the ambassador for my hospital, with a face like yours, I’m sure-”

“Do not listen to him Lucius, he is just trying to use you to create a bigger image for this hospital.” Alessandro interrupted him midway.

“What do you know? Rhys what do you think of my offer? I can offer you so much money.”

Alessandro sneered at him. “How much can you offer to the heir of Fernandez family?”

“At least half of what you can offer. Rhys you won’t reject me right?” Damian took out two cards from his pocket, he handed them both to Rhys. “This is my business card with my personal contact number on it, and this black card is a first meeting gift. It contains about fifty million the last time I checked. I hope to can consider my offer.”

“Damian, are you trying to bribe my son?”

“Nope, just giving him enough benefits to convince him.” He rolled his eyes before sipping his champagne again.

“I would think about it.” Rhys had a pronounced smile on his face as he held the black card, his heart was doing flips as he imagined what he could do with so much money.

“Thanks in advance.” They both ignored the betrayed expression in Alessandro’s face. Damian turned to his friend. “You found your son, he his single, why don’t we-?”

“Never!” Alessandro grabbed Rhys once again. “We are living this instant, an invitation for his return banquet would be sent to you.” Without waiting for them to exchange pleasantries, he matched Rhys out of the office towards the elevators they came from. As they left, they could hear laughter coming from Damian’s office.

The bodyguards stationed around the office were confused but they dare not investigate the reason why, just a glance at Alessandro and they instantly knew his identity, knowing better than to stop him.

As they returned to the car, Alessandro was still wearing a frown as he started the car, Rhys tried to resist the urge to burst into laughter. “Dad, why are you sad? Aren’t you happy to see me?” Rhys pretended to look distressed.

“No son. That nasty brat was trying to take advantage of you.” Alessandro hissed.

Rhys smiled. “It’s just being the ambassador of his hospital, what could possibly go wrong? Instead, it would bring me some benefits.”

“What benefits can be better than that of your family, you are the family heir Lucius.”

Rhys raised an eyebrow. “Would it be okay if I keep my current name?”

“Why? Lucius suits you more.”

“I think I’ll be more comfortable with Rhys.”

Alessandro took a few more look at his son beside him, he realized how much he had missed out on. He never had the chance to be involved in his son’s life in his childhood, the thought of it made him sad. “Okay.” Alessandro felt like he had a lot to make up for so he simply agreed.

“Thank you so much dad.” Alessandro wiped a stray tear from his eyes.

“What happened in the past?” He could easily accept that he had just found his family, the fact that it turned out to be one of the most prominent families in the country was exhilarating but he still wanted to know how he got separated from them.

“It was an accident,” His cheerful tone dropped, the mood in the car became somber. “We were having your hundred days banquet, you were being dressed up for the event when an assassin suddenly showed up in the banquet hall, we though he was here for any of us since the halls were filled with members of various prominent families but unfortunately, he was there to keep us distracted.”

“What happened next?”

“There wasn’t just one assassin, they were six so their presence kept us distracted.”

“Then?”

“After a while, they suddenly left. We all thought we managed to change them off, your mother felt uneasy and went to check up on you but-” His voice started breaking. “The woman assigned to take care of you were lying in the pool of their own blood, the attack on them was unexpected by the looks on their faces in their death. You were no where to be found, realizing this, your mother passed out.”

“What happened to her?” Rhys nervously asked, worried about what the response might be.

“Your mother was poisoned while she was still pregnant, we managed to save her life but it affected her health, she became very frail and weak. It took the help of more than a dozen doctors before she was able to birth you successfully and it was found out that she would never be able to conceive. You were her only child.”

There was a moment of silence in the car, Rhys patiently waited for Alessandro to continue his words.

“When she discovered that you have be taken, she passed out and was in coma for three months. The doctors said your kidnap had agitated her and caused the dormant poison in her to act up.”

“She survived right?” No matter how he tried to be composed, Rhys voice came out shaky.

Alessandro smiled and nodded at his son. “She may be weak and frail but your mother is a fighter. She controls the whole family with the support of my father. She made me promise to find you and for more than twenty five years, I’ve been looking for you.”

“Didn’t you ever think of giving up?”

The man shook his head. “Not once. A few months later, we got in contact with the people who kidnapped you and they were finally caught, but it discovered that they had sold you off. Your mom was shattered once again, she had to be placed on bed rest for a very long time.”

Tears pooled in Rhys eyes, threatening to fall but he wiped it. He could imagine the pain his mom had gone through.
