Lucius questioned many confusing things in his life. Including the current situation.

As his eyes opened slowly, Lucius caught sight of a clear sky and a glimpse of the rooftops. Slowly but surely Lucius' ears heard the roar of a vehicle.

For some reason, Lucius even felt that everything was so foreign, like the state of a newborn baby.

What's this? Had he just finished hibernating long enough?

Lucius groaned, holding his temples. "Argh... why does my head... hurt so much?"

Lucius's eyes opened more and more fully. Slowly, Lucius got up and changed his position to sit.

"Hey, is he crazy?"

"Why is he sleeping on the side road?"

"He doesn't have a home?"

"Silly human. Just like a homeless person."

"At least he can rent a hotel or find a place that can accommodate him, why sleep on the sidewalk?"

Lucius frowned after realizing he was surrounded by people. Some of them looked at Lucius strangely, some walked around with a questioning expression on their faces.

Lucius' gaze shifted to himself. Wait, why was he sleeping on the sidewalk—under the long bench that was supposed to be the seat of the residents?

After a moment of gathering his consciousness, Lucius immediately stood up. His body was slightly dazed, but he was able to quickly balance his position.

"Hey, don't you know a suitable place to sleep? If you don't have a house, you can sleep at your neighbor's house!" said a man who looked at Lucius in annoyance.

"That's right! The sidewalk is the right of the road users! You can't disturb the comfort!" said another resident.

Knowing these citizens were annoyed at him, Lucius bowed to them repeatedly. His smile curved awkwardly. Lucius was truly embarrassed.

"Sorry, everyone. I'm really sorry!" Lucius answered explaining to all of them.

One by one the people who had gathered surrounded him had dispersed. Lucius still grinned uncomfortably, walking down the sidewalk with his hands in his trouser pockets.

Lucius lowered his head in shame. He try as much as possible not to stare at the shopkeeper who had seen him sleeping on the sidewalk earlier.

'Shit, why did I have to do such an embarrassing thing?' Lucius thought cursing himself.

Lucius then lifted the hood of his hoodie to cover his head. In between steps, Lucius heard someone shouting his name.

"Emanuel Lucius!"

Lucius' steps stopped. He half turned to the side with his head still down. Lucius was still reluctant to show his face after the incident when he was caught sleeping on the sidewalk.

"Lucius!" an enthusiastic exclamation sounded along with a pat on the shoulder on his right.

Lucius flinched slightly. He just glanced at a woman with a height only reaching Lucius's shoulders.

"It's you. Why don't you look at me?" protested the girl. "I'm afraid to call the wrong person."

Lucius frowned, looking at the woman with confused look.

"You...." Shit. Lucius had no memory of the woman beside him now.

"Kaylee," she answered quickly. "You've forgotten me?"

Lucius nodded his head in understanding while snapping his fingers once. He couldn't possibly tell Kaylee that his brain didn't remember at all.

"Ah, yes. I almost forgot," Lucius answered with a chuckle.

Kaylee snorted, looking irritated for a moment before turning her face enthusiastic.

"Today is the grand opening of one of our favorite bakeries. Do you remember?"

Right after Kaylee said that question, out of nowhere a memory flashed through Lucius' brain. Lucius immediately gasped, closed his eyes, and stopped walking abruptly.

'Wait, a matter of hours before one in the afternoon, our bakery will be grand opening!'

Lucius opened his eyes again. The memory flashed by very quickly. It was as if an echo of a voice was revolving in his head.

"Lucius?" Kaylee called out, rebuking Lucius.

"Yes?" In a daze, Lucius answered.

Kaylee looked at Lucius in surprise. "You are okay?"

Not wanting Kaylee to think he was a freak, Lucius shook his head. An awkward smile curved.

"No. I'm fine," Lucius replied, lying.

Kaylee still couldn't believe it. He caught up with Lucius who preceded him.

"Are you sure?" asked Kaylee again. From the side, Kaylee stepped to watch Lucius' face.

"Hm. I'm sure," answered Lucius without looking at Kaylee.

No more questions from Kaylee. Lucius was relieved that Kaylee didn't try to dig deeper. All Lucius thought about was the memory that flashed through his head earlier.

Why did that memory feel so familiar and bother him?
