Caleb’s POV:
After leaving the office, I took a detour and went to visit my father’s grave.
I put a single large rose, with the stem attached to it, on his grave and sat down next to it.
The cold weather didn’t make it any easier for me to be there, but I still sat there.
“I miss you, Dad. Every day…”
I fought the tears that tried to come out.
“I don’t even know what I’m living for. I feel lonely. In winters, particularly, I keep getting depressing thoughts. The cold weather is eating the little warmth left in me.”
I put my hand on the gravestone, and it felt quite cold, as if it was mocking me and making me come to get over the fact that my dad was no more.
I looked around.
There was no warmth that could be found anywhere in that graveyard.
Would my dad really want me to be in a place like this when I’m feeling down?
I sucked in a deep breath and got up.
I picked the rose back up.
“I’ll water this rose stem and grow it into a plant, Dad,” I said. “I’ll bring you the flowers it produces.”
A faint breeze blew past my face.
It felt as though my dad agreed to my plan.
“See you later, Dad,” I said and walked away.
A few minutes later.
I arrived at my apartment.
Sure enough, the fat crow started cawing, each caw a testament to its hunger.
I sighed and said, “I have nothing to give you right now.”
But I saw its head tilting to the left and to the right. It was looking at the rose stem in my hand.
“You want the rose?” I hesitated for a bit. “The plant would grow faster without the rose, right?”
I broke the rose off the stem and tossed it toward the crow.
It caught the rose and flew away.
“Is it going to eat the flower? Or maybe it will use the flower to bed its nest?” I had no idea.
I entered my apartment and lay down on my bed without even removing my socks.
I was more tired than I thought.
Before I knew it, I slipped into a deep sleep.
A few minutes later.
The vibration of my mobile woke me up at once.
It was the HR manager calling.
My vision was blurry. I rubbed my eyes and looked again.
Sure enough, it was the HR manager.
“He already fired me, so why is he calling me now?” I wondered. “Did the Phantom Dream investors talk about me? Otherwise, I don’t see why he’s calling me.”
I didn’t lift his call and put the mobile aside.
He called me again.
“Heh, let’s see how many times you will call…”
I just waited.
He called me five more times.
On the sixth time, I got tired.‘
I grabbed the mobile and waited a few seconds before answering, “Yeah, this is Caleb.”
“I know you’re Caleb. The investment deal went through, so the chairman is throwing a grand party tonight,” the HR manager said. “He specifically told me to make sure you attend the party dressed neatly.”
“Huh?” My heart skipped a beat because I wasn’t expecting Edward’s name to come in this conversation. “Why would he specifically care about me?”
“Isn’t it obvious? He’s seen you dressed poorly before, so he told me to warn you,” the HR manager added. “The chairman may not talk to everyone, but he observes everyone and everything happening in the company.”
“Wait, didn’t you fire me in the morning?” I reminded him. “So how can I attend the party?”
“C’mon, you really thought I fired you. That was a prank,” the HR manager quickly said, a hint of nervousness in his voice.
“A prank? Surely, you didn’t stop me when I packed my belongings and walked out with shame stricken all over my face,” I said. “Even now, you are not apologizing but are trying to trick me into coming to the party because the chairman told you something about me. Am I correct?”
There was silence.
The HR manager didn’t say a word, but I could almost hear his heart pounding from the other side.
“If you have nothing else to say, I’ll end the call, Manager Andy,” I said.
“Wait, wait, wait!” the HR manager, Andy Rogers, urged. “I made a mistake. I shouldn’t have fired you, but it was Mike’s doing. You know that, too. He pushed me.”
“So what if he pushed you? You’re the HR manager. You didn’t do your job well,” I retorted. “Besides, I told you already. I wouldn’t return even if you begged me to come back.”
“Please do me this favor just once—”
I ended the call before he could finish his sentence.
“It’s not over yet, Andy. Your downfall has just begun, and everybody in that office who abused and mocked me will pay dearly.”
Just then, a voice rang in my mind. And a window popped up before me.
[Warning: You’re being watched!]
My breath hitched.
This again!
I looked around, trying to find the intruder.
But I didn’t find any other person in the house.
A new window popped.
[The one who was watching you has left. They might return again, so be careful!]
I gritted my teeth. “How can I defend myself when I don’t even know who’s watching me?”
“A new mission!” Dreamie’s voice rang in my mind.
[Dress up well for the party tonight, impress the investors and earn at least one charm point!
Success: Sleep Optimization. Gets rid of dark circles under your eyes faster!
Failure: Sleep Fragmentation. You will wake up tired no matter how long you sleep. And your dark circles will worsen!]
I closed the message window.
“I was planning to go to the party tonight regardless of the mission,” I uttered under my breath. “I have a lot of scores to settle and regain everything I have lost.”

CHAPTER 122
“If your reason isn’t satisfying, I will send you home without any deal.”Caleb took in a deep breath. “I’ll be honest, Mr. Russell. It’s been over five years since Creed Zone was built, and you have not expanded it horizontally even by a millimeter, right? You’ve only gone sky-way when you could have easily bought more land and expanded this place.“I liked how you stuck to this piece of land and did not trouble anybody living next to it. It’s not possible without having strong ethics. That’s why I wanted to sell my product to you. Of course, your tech is also quite advanced, so I thought you’d better understand my product.”“Many people have wanted me to expand,” Russell said, “even my grandfather. But my mother told me to have a friendly relationship with my neighbors and to show my creed with my actions. You’re the first outsider who noticed that and spoke positively about it.”“So, do we have a deal?” Caleb asked expectantly.Russell smiled and stood before putting his hand forwa
CHAPTER 121
“I’m sorry for being late,” Caleb rushed in and put his hands on the shoulders of both ladies. “I was admiring the buildings on my way here, so please forgive me.”Faye and Rita felt that he was totally giving an excuse, which wasn’t a good start.“What did you like about the buildings?” Russell asked. His voice was calm, but his gaze was stable. He was keenly observing Caleb.Rita and Faye thought that Caleb just dug himself a pit.“A lot of things,” Caleb said, walking toward the window. “This whole place is like a sweet shop where every sweet tastes fine on the tongue. You love it so much you want to know the recipe. But it’s not easy to decipher. The material used to build the skybridges for instance… it’s mixed with metal and bird bone, right?”“Bird bone?” Faye and Rita thought he was speaking nonsense. But Russell didn’t deny it.Russell looked at the girls and said, “Can I talk with him in private for a minute?”“O-Of course,” Faye and Rita quickly left the room.Caleb sat dow
CHAPTER 120
The mobile dropped from Rita’s hands and crashed on the floor.“He played me, didn’t he?” her whole body trembled with negative emotions. “Is this his way of taking revenge for what happened all those years back? Not only did he cause me to fight with my dad, but now, he’s ruined my reputation. If Russell Lynn talks negatively about me outside, then my career will take a big hit.”She slowly picked up her mobile.Just then, Faye arrived there.“Why do you look like you’ve seen a ghost?” Faye asked. “Are you okay? Did Russell reject our project or something?”“No, I think Caleb isn’t coming,” Rita’s hands still trembled. “I think he set us up.”“What? Why would he…” Faye frowned. “Is there something you’re not telling me?”Rita’s lips pressed together. “Actually, we used to date in the past.”She gave him a brief explanation.“You gotta be kidding me.” Faye touched her forehead. “How could you do such a thing? For five years, you forced him to work for your company?”“I didn’t. My dad
CHAPTER 119
Caleb’s car entered the Creed Zone without any problem. This was his second time coming here, yet he was still awestruck by the architecture.“I couldn’t tell it in the past, but now I’m sure. There is no way that regular humans built these buildings,” Caleb thought. His skill ‘Super Designer’ allowed him to see the structures and what kind of complicated procedures the builders had to go through to build such intricate skyrises. The lower floors were so spacious that entire markets fit inside these thick bases.“A special kind of brick is used to build these things…” Caleb thought. “I can feel some kind of vague energy coming off from them. Not sure what it is, but it feels like it’s extending the life of these buildings..”Caleb’s car was going at a snail pace as he was observing the buildings one after another and how they were connected. He was learning a lot.“Those bridges connecting the skyscrapers… they somehow mixed metal and bird bones in it, making it light yet sturdy. Just
CHAPTER 118
Faye and Rita arrived at the Creed Zone. One could say it was a mini city in itself. The numerous skyscrapers were connected with bridges and vehicles were traveling hundreds of feet above the ground. As their car drove down the sky-road, Rita could see the city from below.“Just how the heck did they build this?” Rita was quite impressed. “Even with all my knowledge, I can’t understand how they put these buildings and bridges together.”“That’s not the scariest part,” Faye said. “There were a few earthquakes in the past few years, but these buildings withstood those tremors.”“Yeah, that’s what boggles me, too. There aren’t even any cracks that I can see on these roads or buildings. It feels surreal.”“It’s just top-class maintenance.”“It’s much more than that.”Soon, they parked their car inside the automated parking slot. They took the elevator to the top floor. The elevator speed and smoothness took both of them by surprise. They reached the top floor in a few seconds. When the e
CHAPTER 117
Rita and Faye were on their way to the Creed Zone, which was also known as the wealthiest hub in the world. This was because many gamers who played the VR game Dream Creed had become millionaires.“Only five years back, I remember women chasing after software engineers,” Faye said. “They were earning over 100K back then. But a lot has changed in these five years. It’s not due to AI but due to this VR game. The average player of Dream Creed is earning much more than the world’s average income. It just shows why this game has become the most popular game in the world.”“I never played it,” Rita said. “Not even once because my dad was against it.”“He might have been afraid that you might get attracted to the game and give up on the company,” Faye chortled. “I don’t blame him for thinking like that.”“What about you? Did you play it?” Rita curiously asked.“A few days, yes, but I got a fever from playing too much,” Faye said. “Since then my mom hasn't let me play the game. She even destr
