Upper floor of the private hospital, at the premium care unit where many people couldn't afford because survival and comfort there cost more than most rich people expensive cars, Mrs. Whitmore heels clacked frantically on the marble, her appearance disheveled— suit pressed smooth that morning for business arranged business meetings that suddenly changed hospital visit had wrinkled, dust clung to her knee, a reminder of her encounter with Killian that morning.
Security guards flanked the corridors. She stopped pacing, looked through the door with palm pressed against the transparent glass door. Inside, doctors moved around a bed where a young girl lay unconscious, seemingly dead surrounded by machines that swallowed her small frame, doing their damn best to recover her with every method they'd used before. "Oh, god—" Mrs. Whitmore gasped, palm pressed on her mouth. Tears spilled down gently seeing her daughter's in bad shape. "— wake up baby. Please." She yanked Dr. Marcus William's collar immediately he stepped out of the ward, shaking it frantically. "How is my baby? How is my girl?" Her voice cracked. Dr. Marcus Williams let out a shaky breath, his eyes tired from reading monitor that was static, sweats glistened over his temple and for the first time walking out of a ward in twenty years in the medical field, he looked genuinely confused. He was known as the second best medical expert in the world because of his breakthrough and experience in the field but at the moment he wasn't looking like any of those qualifications. "Mrs. Sandra," His voice was low, lacking confidence that made Mrs. Whitmore's grip loosened on his collar. He delivered failure with a careful approach that shouldn't hurt reputation and disappoint employer. "Her illness is strange. I have never seen anything like that in over twenty years in my career." He paused, exhaustion palpable. "Every test comes back with no results on papers. No diagnosis. No primary or secondary causes. It seems we're dealing with nothing here, Mrs. Whitmore." Sigh. "We're still doing everything to make sure she's..." "After ten hours?" Mrs. Whitmore's heart fell. She could read the failure carefully wrapped in hope. "Please..do something.... nothing should happen to my daughter. I'll pay you more. Any amount. Just make her well." The doctor released a shaky exhale. "This is not about money, Mrs. Whitmore.." He said, frustration hinting in his voice. "Honey—' Mr. Whitmore walked in, a business man and certified lawyer. His footsteps were quick with the urgency of a man rushing down from an important business meeting. "— how is she?" He glanced at the doctor before looking back to the wife whose expression already said everything. Mrs. Whitmore's emotion completely collapsed, sobbing through tears. Her husband pulled her to his chest gently. "She's not fine. She's not okay.. please do something honey." Her cried, her shoulder shuddering. "She'll be fine, Darling. She'll be fine." He gently rubbed her back gently in comfort that wouldn't smoothen despair when you have a daughter dying with a cause. The moment was suddenly interrupted when Margaret walked in, Mrs. Whitmore's assistant. A tablet swung in her hand like a weapon. Her heels clacked the marble with stride that made curiosity inevitable and urgency unquestionable. "Boss.." She called. Mrs. Whitmore turned through tears with hope rather than curiosity. "....you need to see something." She handed the tablet to her. "A man came asking for you at the reception. The receptionist already sent him off with security before I got there. Could he be the important person you asked me to bring up?" "Where is the man?" Mrs. Whitmore's commanding voice snapped back. The screen glowed on her face, watching the recorded real-time footage of the earlier scene at the lobby. "Oh, God!" Mrs.Whitmore gasped in shock, voice trembling in panic seeing securities challenged Killian in the lobby. She flung the tablet back to assistant careless about where it hits, crossing out the corridor with the pace of a soldier hurrying towards war. "This is going to be messy." Margaret muttered matching her pace.Latest Chapter
Chapter 20 : The Man In Black Sedan
Killian felt the eyes on him before he saw the car.It was a habit Deadmoo had beaten into him early — the low hum of attention at the back of the neck, the difference between a stranger's glance and a stranger's watching. He'd learned to trust it the hard way, usually right before someone tried to put a shiv between his ribs during his first six months inside. He didn't turn around. He crossed the hotel's side entrance at the same unhurried pace he'd kept the whole walk back from the warehouse, Chen a half-step behind him, still favoring the wrist that had spent three days zip-tied."You've noticed him too," Chen said quietly, not looking toward the black sedan parked across the street."Since the corner of Fifth." Killian didn't break stride. "Whoever he's working for wanted to be seen eventually. He's not hiding well enough for someone actually trying to stay invisible.""Reyes doesn't waste resources on sloppy surveillance.""Then he's not Reyes's." Killian pushed through the revo
Chapter 19 : The Man Jack Underestimated
Jack Moore woke up alone. He noticed it before he noticed anything else — the cold space on Cassandra's side of the bed, sheets pulled back like she'd left in a hurry rather than simply gotten up early. He checked his phone. 6:14 a.m. No text. No note. That wasn't like her. Cassandra didn't do anything without narrating it first, usually to make sure he understood exactly how inconvenienced she was.He found her sitting on the balcony twenty minutes later, still in last night's silk robe, staring out at a city skyline she didn't seem to actually be looking at. A mug of coffee sat untouched beside her, gone cold."You left," Jack said, leaning against the doorframe. "Everything okay?""Fine." She didn't turn around. He crossed the balcony and sat across from her, studying her face the way he studied every negotiation — for the crack that told him where the leverage actually was. "You've been fine since about four this morning, which is when you also apparently stopped being in this apa
Chapter 18 : Blood Doesn't Ask Permission
Cassandra didn't remember grabbing her keys. She didn't remember the elevator ride down to the garage, or the drive across a city that still felt half-asleep at four in the morning. She remembered arriving — tires screeching into her reserved spot, heels slapping marble as she crossed the lobby of Ashbourne Group with her blazer still creased from a bed she'd barely touched.Security didn't stop her. No one ever stopped Cassandra Ashbourne in her own building. The executive floor was dark except for one office at the far end, light spilling out from beneath the door like something already caught in the act.She didn't knock.Diane Ashbourne sat behind the desk that wasn't hers, laptop open, reading glasses pushed up into gray hair that had come loose from its usual pins. She didn't look up right away — didn't flinch, didn't scramble to close anything. She simply finished typing whatever sentence she was on before lifting her eyes."You're up late," Diane said, as though her daughter s
Chapter 17: What Deadmoo Built
The silence stretched long enough that even Colette stopped breathing evenly."You stepped back," Killian said quietly. "Six hundred years, and you just stepped back from a man who hasn't raised a hand."Reyes recovered fast, smoothing his jacket like the motion had been a choice. "A reflex. Nothing more.""Chen taught me that reflexes don't lie. Only mouths do." Killian finally moved, crossing the warehouse floor at an unhurried pace that somehow made the two guards flanking the far wall shift their weight anyway. "You want to know what I've done? I've spent seven hundred and twenty days learning exactly how much damage a human body can survive before it stops being useful to threaten with. I know where a man collapses and doesn't get back up. I know where he collapses and does. Every part of me, Chen calibrated on purpose — including whatever look just made you step back.""Is that a threat, Mr. Dante?""It's information. What you do with it is your business." Killian stopped an arm
Chapter 16: The Address With No Name
Colette drove. Killian hadn't expected that — a woman who spoke like she ran boardrooms navigating through back streets at two in the morning like she'd memorized every pothole in the city."You're not going to ask where we're going?" she said, eyes on the road."You'll tell me when it matters." Killian watched the buildings thin out, warehouses replacing high-rises, streetlights growing sparser with every block. "Or you won't, and I'll figure it out myself when we get there."Colette's mouth twitched — not quite a smile. "Chen said you'd say something like that.""He talked about me?""Constantly, according to the one debrief I managed to get out of him before they moved him. Mostly complaints about your footwork in year one. He seemed prouder of the complaints than he ever was of actual praise." She turned down an unmarked road, gravel replacing asphalt. "That's the only version of pride men like him allow themselves."The warehouse ahead had no sign, no lights, nothing to mark it a
Chapter 15 : The Order Of Silence
Killian didn't invite her in. He simply stepped aside, which in a room this size amounted to the same thing.Colette Vance walked past him like she'd been in a hundred hotel suites just like it, set the photograph face-up on the coffee table, and lowered herself into the armchair across from the window without waiting to be asked."You're not going to scream," she said. "You're not going to lunge at me either. I did my research, Mr. Dante. Men who spent seven hundred and twenty days becoming what you became don't panic over a photograph.""You have thirty seconds," Killian said. "You already used ten of them."She almost smiled. "Fair."She reached into her jacket, and Killian's stance shifted a fraction — not fear, just readiness. She noticed and slowed her hand deliberately, pulling out a slim folder instead of a weapon."Chen Wei Liang," she said, sliding it across the table. "Or Master Chen, as I understand you knew him. Forty-one years ago, he was the youngest master ever inducte
