He sat down on the steps which were worn and old, as the sky danced with pink and purple colors. Leaves shuffled and whispered across each other as a breeze moved along the trees and carried secrets he could not discern. With his elbows propped up by his knees, he hung his hands limp as he stared ahead, working hard to forget how Elsie stared right through him.

He saw that the girl he was comfortable with, the energetic she-wolf who had always been by his side in summer, had become someone different now. Hardened. Guarded. Jayden stood at the cliff's edge long after Rhea had gone. Ocean wind chilled his skin, but he barely noticed it. His mind stayed in the heat of Elsie's kiss, the tremble of her fingers across his cheek, the look in her eyes when he had turned to walk away. Guilt stuck to him like an inescapable drumbeat inside of his chest. He didn't like having to leave again. But staying? That was even more dangerous. He ran his black hair through his fingers and breathed slowly. There was always someone waiting. Always someone who would pursue him for shortcomings he had not even made. He could never quite catch his breath and think that the past was not behind him, closing in with every step.He climbed into his car, the motor coming to life in the quiet of the early morning. The road curled like a snake across the hills. Driving, he couldn't help but see the face of Caspian in his mind. The boy's questioning eyes, the ring of his laughter at seeing Jayden, and that

  • Shadows That Follow

Jayden had not moved for what felt like hours.Wind teased at the bottom of his jacket and battled his hair, but he did not move on the crumbly stone steps, his eyes staring blankly into nothing. His mind was anything but quiet. It churned like the ocean in a storm, each waves crashing another memory, another jolt of remorse. He could still feel the shape of Elsie in his arms. The faint trace of her scent lingered on his chest lavender and saltwater, like summer from a lifetime ago. The kiss had been unplanned. Gentle, filled with all the words he couldn’t say. And now it haunted him.“I’m not ready,” he whispered to himself, dragging a hand through his hair. “Not yet.”Behind him, the door creaked open. A soft footstep followed deliberate, hesitant. Jayden didn’t turn around. He didn’t need to.“You’ve always done this,” Rhea’s voice floated down, light as smoke. “Run toward the flame, then away from the ashes.”He let out a slow breath. “You were listening.”"I always do," she answe

  • Wedding Discussion

"It is going to be the biggest wedding ever!!!" A bright blonde figure exclaimed excitedly. She was Jess, one of Olivia's close friends. She was putting on a very short blue dress that fell tiredly down her shoulders but hung tightly on her body. Her blonde hair was left to fall over her shoulders and her deep set of blue eyes were filled with so much excitement and joy. Her red plum lips were divided into a big bright smile and her expression in total was that of an overjoyed person. "I really cannot believe that your wedding is tonight! We have been postponing it for a very long time now and I was actually worried that it might never happen but now that I am here and helping you become so pretty, ah! My heart is about to explode with joy!" She exclaimed excitedly. Olivia could not help the smile that made its way to her face. She and Jess were very close and she enjoyed her company. " Okay now, tone down the excitement. If you are this excited then how excited do you expect me

  • Anxiety and Delimma

A young handsome man, with a built quite tall and flourishing brown hair that rested on his shoulders, slid across the room in the most grateful manner. His eyes were a set of deep brown which was just a little bit darker than his hair and his lashes batted spontaneously. His lips were as attractive as the word attractive itself and any woman– well most women– who set their eyes on him had only one wish which was to find out how soft his lips would be when he kissed them. Sometimes he even made men turn their heads just to see if they had not imagined an angel passing. His nicely structured face and straight nose was something that made him stand out in a good way no matter where he went to. He placed himself in a king like armchair and leaned towards the table to pick up his golden encrusted tea cup and sipped from it after leaning back into his chair. He was putting on a dark green sweater and a pair of slightly dark blue trousers and a golden necklace hung around his neck, th
