Gunshots were firing in the air.

Clip! Clop! Clip! Clop!

“Come on Ella, they're going to get us at this rate!” Jayden yelled at her (though his yell sounded a lot more whispered than normal).

“I….I know….I have to catch my breath” She said as she stooped, with her hands on her knees, while she panted heavily. Jayden couldn't really blame her; she wasn't cut out for all this military stuff.

“Alright, hop on” he said, squatting in front of her. She hesitated for a couple of seconds, and he immediately picked her off the ground. “We don't have all day, you know?” He said as he picked her up and kept running. “Come on Elsie. We can't stop now” he said, holding her by the hand as he led her through the terrible labyrinth of alleyways.

Olivia's men were like ravenous wolves; they searched every corner for them. “Find them! They couldn't have gotten far” she barked, running her fingers backwards through her hair in frustration when Kevin suddenly walked up to her.

“Relax babe. We'll find him for sure and those brats too,” he said. She smiled a little on hearing Kevin's words. Kevin always seemed to know the right words to say to make her happy.

“Yeah, I know we will. I just despise him so badly! Urghh!” She clenched her fists when suddenly one of her men ran up to her.

-“Ma’am, we've pushed back the remnants of his reinforcements” he said as he gave a slight bow.

“And why do I not see Jayden?” She asked, her eyes filled with enough spite to melt human flesh.

“Our men are still searching for him. He couldn't have gone far. I'm sure we'll find him soon” he said.

“Well, don't just stand there then. Go find him! Why are you guys so useless?!” She groaned, almost pulling out her hair.

Meanwhile, back in the alley, Jayden and the others hear some sound coming from one of the turns in the alleyway. Jayden stops abruptly and with his fingers gestures for them to be silent. Elsie and Ella nod silently and Jayden lets Ella down. He pulls out his handgun and corks it, whispering to them; “You two go and hide”. They nod in response and hide behind one of the dumpsters.

Confirming that they're well hidden, he picks up an empty metal can and tosses it. As soon as it lands, a barrage of gunshots destroys the silence and soon the sound of boots approaching fills the air. Jayden hides behind a wall and as soon as the men are in sight, he takes them out, hitting them at astonishing speed with the hilt of his gun. Luckily for him, there were just six of them.

“You guys can come out now,” he said, panting a bit and wiping the sweat off his forehead. “They just seem not to ever end” he muttered with his hands on his hips as he stared at the unconscious soldiers. Elsie and Ella emerged. They looked really worried; more so for Jayden than for themselves.

“Jay, what's going to happen to us?” Ella whispered to Jayden as she walked up to him. Jayden's men had been virtually eradicated. He failed to account for the fact that Olivia could have had more men hidden but on standby. As soon as his men showed up, a shootout began and men armed to the teeth suddenly popped out from nowhere and began assisting Olivia's men - who'd have thought she would be that smart?

“Relax sis. Nothing's going to happen. I'll protect you, okay?” He said reassuringly, though he was clueless as to what his next move should be. Ella nodded in response. ‘I should have known that girl had more up her sleeve’, he thought as he gritted his teeth. He needed to find a way out of this place; there simply was no way to win - they were heavily outnumbered!

Olivia's men, their eyes almost wild, stalked them around the perimeter. Even though Jayden's miscalculation had gotten them trapped in this mess, he racked his brain for a way out. “There's got to be a way out of this” he muttered as he tried up the last of the men. He took off their guns and gave Elsie and Ella one each; “Just hold these in case. These jerks could pop up from anywhere” he said, “Anyway, let's keep moving.

Meanwhile, back at the base, Nova felt rather odd - something didn't feel right. He never liked the idea of the general going over there in the first place. The Four Giants already had their eyes on them and messing with that double-crossing weasel, Olivia, was too close for comfort, according to Nova.

“Guys, we have to go check on him”, Nova said to the surrounding guys.

“But the general said…..”

“What the general said…. He'll be dead if we don't do something”, Nova barked. Everyone had deep respect for Nova, even Jayden. Of course, he had his flaws; his temper being the most obvious, but he had a great combat sixth sense to say the least - he could literally see the danger long before it came. “Get the jets ready. We're going on a reconnaissance mission.

Jayden cussed as they hit yet another dead end. He placed his hands on his hips, looking at the ground as if searching for an answer in it. He didn't want to go out like this - not at the hands of Olivia. It was beyond shameful. He felt a hand on his shoulder as despair and worry colored his face. Looking to the side, it was Ella; “We're in this together, okay?” She comforted him.

Elsie, taking the cue from Ella, joined in; “Yeah. Even if we die here, you'll always be our hero” she said with a smile. Jayden smiled as his eyes began to show signs of moisture building up.

“Thanks a lot, guys” he hugged them, “I promise I'll do everything to make sure we make it out of here.”

As Olivia's men sniffed around for Jayden and the rest, suddenly, a thrumming was heard above, in the skies. The noise intensified into a sonic boom that shook the ground. Looking up, diffusing, sleek streaks of gas could be seen over the city as the deafening sounds of roaring jet engines tore the skies. Everyone looked up in surprise and Olivia stared at the jets in shock - the patterns on them - she recognized them.

“O…oh no…..” Olivia muttered, her lips trembling as she let go of her phone.

“Are those……! Everyone take cover!” Kevin yelled as he picked Olivia up and began to run to the nearest shelter. Before Olivia's men could react, there was a barrage of bullets from the machine guns attached to the jets.

“Tchhh...ome on boys. Let's finish ‘them off….”

“Roger that Cap”...

Wails and screams could be heard from all corners as the repetitive sound of gunshots filled the air.

The unexpected attack caused a disruption among the ranks of Olivia’s men. A lot of her soldiers stood still, totally disoriented as their sheer numbers were cut down by the incoming fire. The very aggressive guerilla-trained men who were seemingly on the hunt earlier on, had now somehow transformed into a herd of confused and scared prey - scattered in their bid to escape getting hit.

“That sick Jayden!” Kevin growled in anger as he made his way through a convoluted system of alleyways to avoid taking a hit. “I knew it wouldn't be this easy.”

Meanwhile, just as Jayden hugged Ella and Elsie, the three suddenly heard a loud bang in the sky. Their eyes all darted up only to see a squadron of fighter jets flying overhead. Jayden's eyes lit up as he recognized the pattern on the jets. He hurriedly picked up his communication device.

"Nova!” He yelled, “Is that you?”

‘Loud and clear sir,’ came a voice from the earpiece. ‘We came to get you and the crew out - I figured you'd need some help. Pardon me for not requesting permission first.”

“At ease…” Jayden smiled and looked at Ella and Elsie. They were saved….

And lately, she’d begun to hear him again. It started as whispers — faint transmissions buried in background frequencies, ghost signals repeating the same word: Nova.At first, she thought she was losing her mind. Then she started tracing them. Each signal led deeper underground, below the power grid, to a network that shouldn’t exist anymore. And now, standing before the ruins, she felt it again.A vibration under her palm. A heartbeat in the metal. Her comm clicked softly. “Benoit. Are you still at the site?” It was Commander Elise Tan from Central Command, her voice sharp but tired.Nova pressed her earpiece. “Affirmat

  • Step Back

Jayden steadied himself against the wall, his breath harsh and uneven. “It’s not just a seal,” he said under his breath. “It’s a conduit.”Nova looked around, scanning the shifting glow along the walls. “Then what the hell is it channeling?”He turned to her, eyes burning faintly red under the flicker of light. “Me.”The words hung there like a blade between them. The air thickened. The metallic scent of ozone filled the space. And for a moment, Nova saw it — the faint outline of circuitry weaving across his veins, glowing under his skin like a second pulse.“Jayden…” she whispered, stepping closer. “It’s reacting to you.”He tried to speak, but the vibration spiked, cutting through him like static. He doubled over, hands gripping his skull as flashes tore through his mind — glimpses of Damien, of towers burning, of data bleeding through human eyes.Voices whispered in code. “The blood remembers…”“The heir awakens…”Nova grabbed him by the shoulders, shaking him. “Jayden! • Nova crouched

The rain had stopped by dawn, but the city was still bleeding.Jayden stood at the edge of the canal, watching the crimson water twist between the rusted iron pillars. The river ran quiet, too quiet. For a city like this, silence never meant peace—it meant something had gone wrong deep inside its veins. Nova crouched a few feet away, fingertips tracing a strange pattern carved into the stone. It shimmered faintly in the half-light, pulsing in rhythm with her heartbeat. “This symbol,” she said softly. “It’s old… but not dead. Someone’s been keeping it alive.”Jayden’s eyes followed the mark. The same spiral of wings from the metallic disc. “It’s connected,” he murmured. “Every one of them leads somewhere.”Nova looked up. “Beneath?”He nodded. “Always beneath.”For weeks, the signs had been leading them lower—through tunnels, forgotten train stations, and abandoned catacombs that predated even the earliest maps. The city above was alive with noise and neon, but down here… it was just

  • Warning Came Already

The rain came without warning. It swept across the old city like a curse reborn—cold, merciless, and unrelenting. Night seemed thicker in that part of town, the kind of darkness that swallowed even the sound of footsteps.Jayden stood in the alley’s mouth, drenched to the bone, one hand gripping the pendant around his neck—the same silver crest once belonging to his father. The other hand trembled slightly, not from the cold, but from what he’d seen.Blood. Too much of it.And it wasn’t human.Nova’s voice came low from behind him. “It’s happening again, isn’t it?”Jayden turned his head slightly. Her eyes glowed faintly under the flickering streetlight, a sign of what she carried inside her now. The bond between them had been sealed in fire months ago, in the ruins of the last war. But whatever had awakened in her blood that night… it wasn’t resting anymore. He didn’t answer. His gaze stayed on the dark trail that led into the underground path, a trail that shimmered faintly red be

  • North Faroff

The world looked dead this far north. The transport shuttle cut across a sky bruised with ash and ice, its engines humming like a restless ghost. Through the frost-layered windows, endless white stretched in every direction — a frozen sea of silence broken only by jagged mountain ridges and the ruins of satellite spires half-buried in snow.Jayden Knox sat near the cockpit, eyes fixed on the readout flickering across the screen. “Approaching grid seven,” the pilot called over the static. “We’ll hit the perimeter in five.”Jayden didn’t respond. His attention was locked on the coordinates projected on the holo-map — the same ones that had pulsed from the broken city weeks ago.At his side, Nova Benoit checked her rifle’s chamber, every motion precise and methodical. Her breath fogged the visor glass.“You know,” she said, “normal people would’ve ignored a signal from the Arctic and gone back to pretending they won.”Jayden’s tone stayed flat. “We’re not normal people.”“Right,” she mu

  • The Quiet Horizon

Months had passed since the skies above Rose City burned red.The world had changed, but not in the way anyone hoped. The towers still stood, though most were hollow. The digital grids that once pulsed with the Ghost’s dominion now flickered intermittently — fragments of a broken god scattered through silent circuits. On the surface, peace had returned. But to Jayden Knox, peace felt like the pause between breaths — a waiting, not a healing. He stood on the western balcony of the reconstructed command spire, watching the horizon shift in slow colorless dawn. The city below moved in half-life: drones patrolling, scavengers rebuilding, children learning to play again in streets that once screamed. Nova Benoit joined him quietly, her footsteps soundless on the steel. She carried a data-slate tucked beneath her arm, the edges glinting with pale blue.“You’re awake early,” she said.“Couldn’t sleep,” Jayden replied without looking at her. “The silence’s too loud.”Nova leaned against the
