Doctor Vincent approached Marco slowly, almost with a sense of relief, as if a weight had been taken off his shoulders after what had just happened. His voice was soft when he finally spoke, though his eyes betrayed his unease.

“Marco… Thank you. For stepping in back there. I don’t know what would have happened if you hadn’t.” He hesitated, drawing a breath before adding with a guilty look, “But I am sorry too… sorry that I exposed your identity to someone else. I didn’t mean for it to happen that way.”

Marco tilted his head slightly, studying the doctor’s face. He could see the sincerity, but also the fear that lingered beneath his words.

After a pause, he finally answered, his tone calm and almost indifferent. “It’s fine, Dr. Castellano. Some things can’t remain hidden forever. Perhaps it was bound to happen. Either way, it’s time for me to leave.”

“Where would you be going now?” The doctor asked him.

“I'm headed for the pharmacy. I need to check on my mother, are you coming?”
