Spence yawned lazily as he sat facing the huge glass window of "Morning Sunshine" restaurant, he left home about an hour ago to while away his leisure time. His phone chimed and he punched the password to display the content of the message.

To his dismay he was informed about the termination of his two years contract as a casual employee at " Golden Fingers" . The notification came as a shock to him because the ending of the month is still two weeks away.

Another more surprising part is that his supposed monthly income was wired to his account in full.

"A bad news on an empty stomach is the worst combination ever.” he said to himself.

Maya, his wife had denied him breakfast as she left home in a hurry to join the preparation for her mother's 70th birthday. Spence ordered a hamburger and an energy drink which he gulped in a go, he looked at his Rolex wristwatch, the only expensive thing he has all courtesy to his wife's birthday gift.

He was surprised how far spent the time is, he hungrily munched on his hamburger and rushed out of the restaurant,he has a birthday party to grace and cannot afford to be late. He walked down to "La clothier" a clothing store in close proximity to their house.

The attendant smiled warmly at him as he was a regular for clothing rental while he was job hunting two years ago. The thought of him seeing her more often now that he is unemployed gave him goosebumps. He had grown up with his mentor's policy in his lifestyle.

"You cannot afford to look like your problem Spence, dress well, smell nice and smile brightly even in the phase of your tribulation.” Mr Robbin would say.

Spence looked round the cloth racks and his eyes settled on a blue custom made tuxedo. He asked to try it on and to his pleasure it was a perfect fit, he had always had a great body as Maya made known to him in the early days of their blooming love.

He ordered a ride which he soldem do, he would have taken the bus but he couldn't afford to ruin his rented suit and brown leathered shoe. Spence got to his inlaws a little later than he had planned.

Anxiety engulfed him, he had never been embraced like a member of the family. Unlike the other son in-laws just because he does not financially measure up to their family's standard of expected spouse for their darling daughter.

He walked in boldly as he summoned all the courage he could muster. He exchanged pleasantries with the other son in-laws who clustered in a space bragging to each other about their latest success stories.

Spence knew he had none to tell,he just listened like a robot while scanning the whole area for a glimpse of his wife Maya. But she was out of his sight, he excused himself from the chitty chat to look for her and also pay his respect to his mother in-law the birthday celebrant.

He was scanning through the guest when he bumped on a hard shoulder. Looking up to protest then he locked eyes with his boss Mr Leonard Grey, the CEO of Golden Fingers where he just got fired that same day. He felt intimidated by his powerful aura so he apologized immediately.

Mr Grey wearing a displeased expression dismissed his apology with a wave of his hand.

"Babe you are here.” he heard Maya's familiar voice call out, he turned to respond but to his dismay, Maya walked pass him and planted a soft kiss on Leonard 's cheeks totally ignoring his existence.

Realization quickly dawned on Spence, his wife's frequent visitation to his workplace wasn't to serve him lunch but to secretly date his boss. He got fired because she knew her cover will get blown at the party or was it all planned from onset?

His mother in-law Mrs Alice Brown joined them. She hugged Leonard Grey lovingly, a gesture she had never extended to Spence. Spence was stiff, he didn't know what to make of this situation, nobody seems to care about his emotions.

"Had you invited me here to ridicule me?" Spence bitterly spat out as his voice quavered.

"You were not actually invited, were you?" Alice snapped back facing him with a cold expression.

His face fell, not only had he dressed up to a place he was unwanted, his eyes fell on Maya's hand . An eight carat gold engagement ring shimmering on her finger, it had replaced their cheap wedding ring.

"When were you planning to tell me Maya?" he faced her with conflicting emotion of love, hate and disappointment evident in him

"Aren't we divorced?" Maya spat out.

"Divorced?" He let out a confused expression

"Didn't you check your mailbox, my lawyer already sent my divorce letter to you.” Maya retorted clearly getting pissed at his clumsy attitude. Spence tried to keep his sanity, the whole situation seem like his worst nightmare

"Mr Grey, is this why you fired me?" Spence said trying to connect to dots of the whole plot.

"Casual employees are dispensable Mr Wellington." Leonard arrogantly retorted “no hard feelings.”

Maya's cousin sister who had been watching the whole scenery laughed loudly gathering the attention of the other guests.

"I guess he even rented a tuxedo to impress you mother" Kate said admist her mockery laughter.

Alice rolled her eyes at that, even his good looks does not measure up to Leonard's powerful domineering aura. Alice walked up to the stage, her glittering red dress caught the attention of many. she had spent a fortune on shipping it from Paris, but the quality attention she gathered from it made it worth the trouble.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I am elated by your presence in gracing my 70th birthday, it is a great pleasure, I feel honored." she began, her words were rewarded with applauds from the guests.

"I want to make a toast to the beautiful love between my stunning newly engaged daughter Maya and her fiance Mr Leonard Grey the CEO of Golden Fingers.” she raised her glass.

"To love and more wealth." the guests echoed her words and they gulped their expensive wine.

"In a few months,I will become a grandmother to the heir of Golden Fingers.” Alice proudly announced.
