Liam's POV

I felt a bit better right away—and a little hopeful. Maybe, just maybe, we had someone on the inside. I answered quickly.

“Locke,” said the rough voice. No hello, just straight to business. “I got your card. I’ve been thinking about what you said earlier.”

“Deputy,” I said, trying to stay calm, “Thanks for calling me back.”

“Don’t get excited. I’m not promising anything. But I’ll listen. You said you had something on Blackwood. It better be good. I’m already taking a risk just talking to you.”

“It is good. I can prove Blackwood has been breaking the law for years.”

“Alright, then. But not over the phone. I don’t want anyone listening in. Meet me at the old gas station on Highway 12, just past the county line. In fifteen minutes. And come alone.”

“Fifteen minutes. I’ll be there.” I hung up. This could be the chance we needed.

Hans and Sarah were watching me.

“That was Locke,” I said. “He wants to meet. He’s willing to listen.”

Hans raised an eyebrow.

“Locke? You think he’ll

  • CHAPTER 173

Ryan's POV“I don't know where he is,” I said.A look of disappointment immediately flashed on Father's face before vanishing just as quickly. “Are you telling me the truth, son?” He asked.I didn't want to tell him. I had to see for myself that my father really wanted to change for the better.“I am,” I replied blankly, trying my best to hide my emotions. “He's being careful. He doesn't really trust me that much. We only meet at odd places he picks.”I could swear that anger was slowly returning to Father's eyes. Maybe this was all a ruse to get me spilling the beans and then he'd quickly dispose of me. I really couldn't tell.“But…” I quickly added. “I can tell you what he's up to and what he's got planned for you.”Father wasn't really enthusiastic about this one I could tell. He was hell-bent on Liam.“Tell me.” He said curtly.I was about to talk when his phone buzzed loudly. I watched him take out the phone and quickly frowned when he read the text on his screen.“Is everything

  • CHAPTER 172

Ryan's POVI didn't say anything. I wouldn't have been about to speak even if I tried so I just stared back at the imposing figure of my father and watched him begin to approach the bed slowly. What was he going to do now? Knowing father very well I knew he would most likely choke me and watch the light fade slowly from my eyes without breaking a sweat.I tried to get up and my stomach hurt badly. I wouldn't lay there and let him finish me off. Even in my weak state I was prepared to put up a fight as best as I could.I had only managed to get myself into a sitting position when he reached out and grabbed my shoulder. “I forgive you.” He said.I froze in shock and stared at him with my jaw unconsciously hanging open. With him next to me again, it was now I took a good look into his eyes and I could see that he wasn't angry! This was weird. Father was one of those people who never smiled and never displayed any emotions linked with happiness but he was different now. He looked remors

  • CHAPTER 171

Liam's POVJust like that my plan was suddenly turned to nothing, vaporized as if it was nothing. My well-crafted and failproof plan. There was just no way I'd be able to clear my name now.I only felt even more humiliated when Charles led me to one of the computers to show me a small map of the city and where the feds were currently searching. They were closing in.“It's a matter of time before they close in on us,” Charles explained. “They're hell-bent on finding us, Liam. If we have a plan we need to execute fast. If not, it's a matter of time before they start using satellite imagery and once they do, trust me, we're toast.”I didn't speak immediately. I didn't even know what I wanted to say again. I was no leader… I had led them out into the middle of nowhere as if I was some Robinhood and his merry men but in reality, I was nothing near that. It was time to face reality.“We are going to turn ourselves in,” I replied.Silence settled around the room and everyone else turned thei

  • CHAPTER 170

Ryan's POVI gasped and my legs buckled under my weight. The world swam before my eyes with Scratch's sneer zooming in and out but then the instinct to survive kicked in!I grabbed Silas' arm and dug my finger into one of the gashes left there after he had shattered the glass table with his fall. Silas hissed painfully, his features all twisted up in his agony. I used the pain I was inflicting to my own advantage. I twisted his arm with my finger digging deeper into his flash which only kept his blade into my own flesh.Silas roared in agony and he tried to pull free but I held on with a death grip while my own lifeblood drained the floor. Silas managed to retract his arm but failed to take the knife out of my body but I still held on. With all my strength, I slammed Silas’s wounded arm against the overturned metal frame of the table.I heard a snap and Silas screamed painfully and stumbled back clutching his arm. He raised his other hand reaching for the knife still lodged in my ab

  • CHAPTER 169

Ryan's POVThe recording! That was the first thing that came to my mind when I knew that there was someone in Melissa's house. It could be one of my father's men sent here to search and retrieve it!My father always had more than one plan and I knew very well that sending me to try and retrieve the copy from Melissa wasn't his only plan. But while I was here, there was just no way that person would leave with a recording. I carefully took out my gun from the glove compartment and carefully checked the magazine before stepping out of the car.I knew that whoever was in that house would see me approaching if I wasn't careful enough so I sneaked to the side of the house using the small shadows of the street lights and the trashcans for cover.I finally got to the house with my heart beating frantically and my palms sweaty. I stopped and listened but there was no sound coming from the house. I noticed a window on the second floor slightly open, it was locked! Good! Just the luck I need

  • CHAPTER 168

Ryan's POV“Do what's right..” I scoffed under my breath with my grip tightening around the steering wheel as I drove back to the city.I hated the way I was being ordered around like everyone's errand boy. I really hated that but I was just too deep into it now to call it quits. The darker and more sinister part of me considered the option to let the law have Liam and all who were with him but to do that, my father would walk free and if my father walked free, Melissa would definitely spill the beans on me and I'd have Father to deal with. But if I went with Melissa's idea, Liam's name would be cleared and he'd return to his life. Father would be locked up and Melissa… I didn't really know where Melissa would fit in all of this because I definitely wasn't going to have her again! Then there was the small matter of the maniac assassin whom I had poked in the eye. I knew Scratch was coming after me and it was only a matter of time before the maniac caught up to me! Everything had to b
