Ryan's POV

“Bubble gum?” Silas offered a wrap to me.

“No,” I replied curtly.

“Suit yourself then.” He shrugged.

I watched him peel off the wrap and throw the bubble gum into his mouth as he moved even closer and sat on the conference table directly in front of me.

“I have a feeling that you didn't stop me just because of bubble gum, so let it out,” I spoke impatiently.

“Right, you are,” he replied. “Do I trouble you that much?”

The question took me off guard.

“How so?” I asked.

“Don't take me for a fool, Ryan.” He waved dismissively. “Why would you have to go through the stress of having me followed by your rookie goons?”

His tone gave away his annoyance and his ey

Liam's POVI realized that my grip on the wine glass was becoming alarmingly tighter and stronger so I tried to relax and switched the glass to my other hand.Melissa stared at the garden below in silence. I had a feeling she was trying to avoid my face but I couldn't tell if she genuinely felt guilty. Her hair was parted on one side and fell freely down to her shoulders. Her profile view was illuminated softly by the lights of the balcony and I couldn't help but admire her beauty.I caught myself staring and immediately looked away straight at the garden too.“I'm sorry, Liam.” She finally spoke out.Sorry? She thought that one word would automatically erase all the pain and heartbreaks she had subjected me to.“I know I messed up,” she continued. “I messed up real big and I don't ask you to forgive me, I know I won't get that. I just want you to know that I'm truly sorry for everything that happened.”I said nothing. I didn't know what I was supposed to say, but one thing was clear,

Liam's POVMom seemingly choked on her drink.“Liam!” She exclaimed excitedly. “You're back even sooner than we thought!”“I had to turn in early today. Tired from work,” I replied as I made my way into the room. “What exactly is going on here?” I asked.“Your mom and I talked with your maid and realized that you've always been all work and no play.” It was Aunt Maya replying.“So we decided to prepare a little get-together for you this evening.” Mom smiled. “Oh and look who I invited.” She motioned at Melissa.“Hello, Liam.” Melissa waved shyly.“Hi!” I waved back and then turned to my mother. “Can I talk to you for a second, Mom?”“Sure? Why not?” She replied but did not attempt to get up.“In private?” I added, nodding towards the kitchen.“Oh sure, hun. Lead the way.”I walked towards the kitchen and she followed behind.Even before I could reach the kitchen, the sweet delicious aroma of whatever mom had gone out of her way to prepare greeted my nostrils. My stomach rumbled a litt

Liam's POV“Careful now, boy,” Tobias growled. “Tread carefully.”Although he didn't react much, I could tell from his sharp glare and his suddenly tensed body that this was a topic he wasn't ready to discuss and he would do anything to avoid it even if it meant throwing me out of the house.“What do you want?” I asked again. “Carter Enterprises was left to me by your brother. I am the legal head of the family business now.”“Or at least you think so,” Tobias said with his eyes never leaving mine. “You shouldn't be heading Carter Enterprises. You're not man enough to do that!”I shrugged nonchalantly. “But still I get to run the business somehow,” I said. “I know you've always wanted to run the business, but to be honest, your time is past now. You're finally free after all those years in jail, do something good with your life.”His gaze immediately hardened and I could see his jaw momentarily clenched tightly.“You think you know all there is to know, don't you?” He growled. “For so

Liam's POV“Are you sure this is a good idea?” Sarah asked as we pulled up to the old Carter Mansion where Tobias was now occupying.“No,” I replied. “But I still got to talk to him. I need to.”“This could be really dangerous, Liam,” Sarah urged. “I mean, with the man's history and all, what if he suddenly gets cranky?”“That's why I brought you,” I replied.“I am not sure if I'm the best idea of a backup.”“No. But you'll call the police if our visitation goes South.”Sarah sighed. “I'm still not convinced that this is a good idea though. The man is dangerous and I don't think…”“Can we stop complaining and do this?” I cut her off.Sarah pouted as she passed me a little earpiece. “I won't attend your funeral just to be clear,” she said.“Yeah, but I bet you'll watch every second of it back in your dark room through one of your drones.”Sarah laughed.“Get out, Liam.” She pushed me gently.I chuckled heartily as I walked out of the car. Sarah was just natural at drawing laughter o

Ryan's POV“What do you mean?!” I screamed at the men before me.The men shifted uncomfortably and even looked away except Zane who I was addressing.“Like I said, he just seemed to vanish,” Zane repeated. “We could've told where he went to.”I was burning with rage and this is just how I've been for days now, at least ever since my father saw the need to recruit Silas Scratch!“How possible is it to lose a full-grown man in broad daylight?!” I asked angrily. “You had one job! Your job was to closely follow this Scratch guy, and know what he's up to! I need to know what he's planning with father!”“Easier said than done,” Cole muttered under his breath.“Excuse me?” I asked with narrowed eyes. “Did you say something, Cole?
