Ryan's POV

The big wooden door closed behind the last Blackwood Corp executive. I stayed in my chair. I knew what was coming. My dad never ignored it when someone made him look bad in public.

There was a short silence.

Then he spoke.

“Well Ryan?”

His voice was calm but I knew he was angry.

“I just told the truth.” I said quietly looking down. The big wooden table looked more interesting than his face.

“Truth? You think that was the truth? You told everyone that our company was spying! Do you know how bad that looks?”

I looked up. His face was red with anger.

“But it is true isn't it? We sent that virus to Carter Enterprises. We tried to ruin Liam.”

He hit the table hard. The loud sound echoed in the room.

“That's not your business! Your job is to learn how to run this company! Not to throw around dangerous accusations!”

“That's the problem Dad! I don't want this job! I don’t want to sit at a desk all day. I want to do something real. Something exciting.”

He looked shocked.

Liam's POVRyan’s words from last night were still stuck in my head. Tobias didn’t do it? I kept hearing it over and over. Didn’t do what? He didn’t kill my family? That couldn’t be true. There was evidence, a trial, a conviction. It was all part of Carter Enterprises’ history—a dark chapter that ruined my family’s name.I stared out my office window. The city looked busy and crowded, just like the mess in my head. I tried to focus on work, but I couldn’t. My brain felt foggy. The numbers didn’t make sense, the reports all blurred together, and the plans I had carefully made seemed to disappear. Finally, I pushed my chair back. The leather squeaked under me. “Coffee,” I said quietly. Maybe caffeine could help me think straight. The coffee corner was near the elevators, a small space where people chatted quietly. I poured a cup. The smell helped a little. I took a sip—it burned my tongue, but it made me feel more awake. Just then, Anna, my secretary, walked over.“Liam,” she said k

Ryan's POVI walked away from Liam, feeling heavy because of what I didn’t say. I just hoped he was smart enough to figure out the message on that napkin. I hoped he understood how much danger we were in. Every step I took felt slow and hard, like walking through thick syrup. My phone buzzed in my pocket. I looked at the screen. A number I didn’t know. I stopped, my stomach tight. Something felt wrong.I picked up. “Hello?”A rough, cold voice spoke into my ear. “Ryan Blackwood. Be very careful with your next words.”My breath caught. It was Silas Scratch. Just hearing his name scared me. He was my dad’s…cleaner.“Silas,” I said, barely able to speak. “What do you want?”“Let’s just say I’m watching. I’ve got a powerful scope aimed right at your head. One move the wrong way, or one wrong word, and your brains will be all over the ground.”My heart pounded hard. I knew he wasn’t lying. Silas was like a ghost. You couldn’t find him. You couldn’t stop him.“You wouldn’t do that,” I sa

  • CHAPTER 120

Liam's POVI looked at the napkin. It was just a crumpled piece of paper. But it was the only clue I had from Ryan Blackwood, and maybe it could help me figure out what was going on.“What is this supposed to be?” I asked, feeling frustrated.Hans leaned in and looked at it. “Looks like a poem or something?”Sarah laughed. “More like nonsense. Listen to this: ‘Tonight our betrayal is absolved; serenity descends in deep nights. Truths dwell only in transit.’ What does that even mean?”We all stared at it quietly under the bright diner lights. The napkin sat on the greasy table.“Do you think he’s trying to tell us something?” Hans asked. He sounded worried. “Maybe he’s in danger.”“Danger?” Sarah rolled her eyes. “Ryan Blackwood is danger. He always brings trouble.”“Yeah, but… he looked scared,” I said. “Like he wanted to say more but couldn’t.”“Or maybe he’s just playing us again,” Sarah said. “Don’t forget what he’s done—missing students, organ trafficking, framing people…”“I kn

  • CHAPTER 119

Liam's POVThe time was 6.20 pm already and the meet-up was scheduled at 7 pm prompt. I had to be there fast. I needed to be there! That's if I was going. The encounter with Alice some moments ago still bothered me and her words just kept ringing in my ears over and over again. My phone suddenly began ringing again, it was Sarah this time.“Hello Sarah?” I answered the call.“Liam. Are you coming or not?” She asked quickly. “We've been waiting for you. Time is not on our side.”I was at a crossroad. I really didn't know what to say. Go with this and I'd risk losing Alice. Decline and I'll never learn what Ryan Blackwood wanted to discuss in private.“Liam? Liam!” Sarah called out loudly.“I'm on my way,” I replied. “I'll be there in five.” I hung up. I had already made up my mind. I won't see Blackwood triumph and I was willing to do whatever it takes to bring him down. It was okay to fight dirty sometimes. I stood up and retrieved my jacket with determination. I gently felt my wais

  • CHAPTER 118

Liam's POV“Hey… Alice. It's been a while..” I exclaimed when she walked in.Alice smiled but it wasn't that happy and carefree smile that I was used to. It was more of a pained and forced smile.“Hello, Liam!” She said lowly.I got up and moved around the desk with my arms open to hug her, but she stretched out her hand still with that pained smile on her face.I stopped. My eyes went to her hand and then her face. She didn't want to hug me. This told me she was mad at me. I reached out and we shook hands briefly before she pulled back her hand.“Err, have a seat.” I offered her the chair opposite my desk and as she sat down, I turned and returned to my chair.“Been quite the busy man lately, huh?” She asked with her eyes scanning my office.“Yeah..” I replied. “You know work and business and stuff like that. And I'm sorry I kept you waiting this morning.” I apologized.“It's okay.” She replied in that voice, that tone that will tell you quite the opposite. No, it wasn't okay. “Not

  • CHAPTER 117

Liam's POV“So according to what you're saying, Ryan called you this morning seven times and even left a text for you?” Hans asked.“If only you were paying attention that was what I was saying,” I replied tiredly.“Ryan?” Sarah asked in surprise. “As in Ryan Blackwood?”“Yes, Sarah!” I replied impatiently. “I have a feeling that this might be a trap, but still I just can't help but think that he's just trying to trap me.”“I agree,” Hans replied thoughtfully.“Which part exactly do you agree with?” I asked.“I agree that this could be a trap.” “But what if it isn't?” Sarah asked. “What if Ryan actually has something to tell you? Something that could be beneficial?”“He's Ryan Blackwood,” Hans argued. “He's the only son of the man Liam has been after, for a while now. He won't have anything 'beneficial' for Liam.”I listened silently as they both argued over the topic. I was practically sitting on the fence here and really didn't know if I should go with Sarah or Hans on this one.“L
