The drive back home, was quiet as Olivia and Jack were not used to having good healthy communication.

She spares not a single word for him other than ordering him about.

As they were still on their way, Olivia's phone rang. It was one of her male friends calling.

She picked up her phone, and smiled as she answered in a flirty tone, "Hello, sweetie."

"Hey babe! What's going on? You sound different today." The caller asked.

"I'm just coming back from the hospital with this good-for-nothing husband of mine. He's been out making trouble again in the house," she said, glancing at Jack. It was obvious she was trying to hurt his feelings.

"I miss you terribly."

"I miss you too, and I can't wait to see you again."

"Take care, darling. We'll catch up soon. Love you."

"Bye, I love you too, baby," she concluded the call with a smirk.

Somehow, Jack felt his heart break when he heard Olivia flirting with someone on the phone. He knew their marriage was just a contract, and she didn't love him, but he felt disrespected.

Olivia didn't care about his feelings. After all, her useless husband was just a means to an end. And she made sure to remind him of that.

When she hung up, Jack cleared his throat and asked, "So, who was that guy?"

Olivia scoffed, "What business do you have with my romantic life? Know your place, trash. You are not on my level and will never be. You should be thankful that I let you live in my house and not on the street, starving to death."

She turned her face to the road and accelerated the car. She couldn't bear staying in the same car with her loser husband.

Jack kept quiet, and the ride continued quietly. He didn't want to be insulted by her any longe.

When they arrived back at the mansion, Olivia stayed back in the car and surfed through her phone while checking through the internet.

Jack knew home was trouble and he hesitated before alighting from the car.

"Get out, already! I hate being in the same space as you." She yelled at him.

He alighted from the car and went directly into the house to avoid being seen by anyone who may start up unnecessary dramas.

Thankfully, it seems like Chris, Damien and the rest of the family members are having a nap.

Jack climbed up the stairs and made his way to their bedroom. Although they share the same room, there's nothing romantic going on between them.

She sleeps on the king-sized bed while he sleeps on the bare floor even when the weather is extremely cold.

Inside the room, he was so tired, and without much hesitation, he lay down on the floor and dozed off to sleep.

He didn't sleep for long when a few minutes later, a sharp kick on the side of his stomach woke him up.

"Get up, as*hole! Go and make me coffee." Olivia scowled at him before tossing her weight on the king-sized bed and began to scroll through her phone.

Despite the pain he was feeling, Jack got up from the hard floor and went to the kitchen where he made the coffee and brought it to her as respectfully as he could.

She was now seated at the edge of the bed, legs crossed and still scrolling through her phone.

“Here,” he said, handing over the cup of coffee to her.

She took the cup of coffee from him, took a sip, and gave it back to him to drop on the bed stool beside her.

'skkk!' Jack sighed inwardly and took the cup from her and dropped it right beside her.

The humiliation!

Jack wanted to continue with his nap because he was tired but Olivia halted him.

"What do you think you are doing?" she asked and side-eyed him.

"I want to rest, I'm feeling a bit dizzy," he replied.

"Have you showered?" Olivia asked him.

“No." he answered.

Slap! She slapped him across the face, "You stink! Go and clean yourself properly!"

"I ummm…" Jack trailed off and rubbed his cheek.

"Get the heck out of my room." She yelled at him.

Jack stood up and left the room to go use the bathroom downstairs.

After bathing, he was climbing upstairs to change his clothes when the doorbell rang.

Sighing, he shuffled toward the door. As he opened it, he saw a delivery man.

"I'm looking for Mr. Jack Turner." the delivery man inquired.

"Yeah, that's me," Jack replied.

"Well, I've got a delivery for you," the man said, extending an envelope toward Jack.

Jack raised an eyebrow. "What's this? I wasn't expecting any deliveries."

"It's a delivery, mate." the delivery man replied with a friendly smile.

Jack accepted the envelope with a hesitant nod before folding it under his left arm.

"Thanks," he muttered quietly to the delivery man, who responded with a firm handshake before turning around and heading back toward the gate.

He examined the envelope. He wasn't expecting any deliveries, and he hasn't given anyone his address recently. Could this be some kind of mistake?

Well, there is only one way to find out.

He tore the envelope open and began reading the first page of the letter.

A bold imprint of CONGRATULATIONS!

He turned to the next page.

On closer inspection, Jack discovered it was a letter, "Directed to Jack Turner." He read out slowly!

He continued reading…

Jack's hands were shaking when he finished reading the letter!

The sun was barely above the horizon when Chris Rhoades stormed into what was left of his downtown apartment, empty liquor bottles on the counter, eviction notices pinned on the wall, the stench of failure clinging to the air. Dock 14 sat on the edge of Hamsville’s crumbling harbor district, a long time forgotten stretch of rusted cranes, empty cargo containers, and crooked street lights that flickered like nervous witnesses. The cold air carried the sharp scent of salt, diesel, and old betrayal.Victor Hart paced beneath the hanging floodlight outside a decaying warehouse, a cigarette smoldering in his hand, jaw tight. Every breath felt heavier now. Every step, louder. It wasn’t supposed to come to this.He was a man who built his empire from shadows, not desperate midnight meetings. Her brother Chris’s sweaty, stunned face was splashed across every screen. Patricia’s desperate outburst in council chambers played on repeat. But it wasn’t just a scandal. It was the comments.People she’d once considered friends, socialites, old classmates, and former colleagues, were tearing into the Rhoades name like vultures.“But it is high time those parasites got what they deserved.”“Wonder how Olivia Rhoades feels now, divorcing Jack Reynolds for a fatter wallet.
