Chapter 006

Karion’s POV

The nurse leaned in slightly, lowering her voice as she whispered something into the doctor’s ear. Her tone was low, careful, but it wasn’t low enough to escape my hearing

“Sir, the payment has been confirmed,” she said. “He actually made the payment.”

The words landed heavier than they should have.

The doctor blinked, like his brain needed a moment to catch up. The disbelief was clear on his face before he quickly masked it. Still, the surprise was clear in his eyes. He cleared his throat, adjusted his glasses, and said

“Well, would you like to leave now, or do you still want us to continue discussing the hallucinations?” he asked

The way he said It told me everything. He no longer sounded concerned—he sounded curious. Curious about how someone like me could casually settle a bill that large without hesitation.

Not having a single idea that a few moments ago I didn’t even know how I was going to settle the bill

They had already stitched me up. The bleeding was under control, the wounds cleaned and bandaged. What remained now was just time for the medication to work and for my body to heal. Staying any longer would change nothing.

Besides, my mind was far from this hospital room.

I needed answers.

This system. This sudden, impossible wealth. Money that shouldn’t exist, money that had no explanation, yet sat solidly in my account like it had always belonged there. I needed to understand it, learn how it worked, and more importantly, learn how to hide it.

If the government ever found out about something like this, I already knew it wouldn’t end well. Questions would be asked. Investigations would begin. And once that happened, there would be no turning back.

I couldn’t afford that.

So for now, this had to stay with me and me alone.

“The hallucinations…” I paused, then shrugged slightly. “I think it was just from waking up suddenly. Maybe I hit my head too hard. They’re gone now.” I met the doctor’s eyes. “I’d like to check out.”

The doctor studied me for a moment, clearly weighing whether to push further. Then he nodded.

“Very well,” he said. “But before that—your clothes.” He gestured vaguely toward the corner of the room. “They were torn and soaked in blood, so we had to dispose of them. Do you have someone you could call to bring you something else? You can use the hospital phone.”

The question hit harder than I expected.

For a brief second, two faces flashed through my mind. Two people who, under normal circumstances, would have rushed here the moment they heard I was hurt. The same two people who should have been sitting by my bedside right now.

The same two people who put me here in the first place.

“I don’t,” I said, my voice colder than I intended. “I’ll find my way like this.”

The doctor and nurse exchanged a quick glance. Then the doctor gave a short nod, then stood up.

“Alright,” he said. “Take care of yourself.”

He walked out without another word.

“Your receipt will be waiting for you at the reception,” the nurse added softly before turning and following him out.

The door closed behind them, leaving the room quiet.

But I barely registered what she said.

My attention drifted inward, to a wound far deeper than the ones stitched across my skin. One that no medication or time could truly heal.

Jubril and Maddie.

The mere thought of their names twisted something ugly in my chest. My lips curled in disgust before I could stop myself. Even now, remembering their faces made my stomach churn.

What they did to me… even now, I still struggled to fully believe it.

My hand tightened slowly into a fist against the hospital sheet.

There was nothing I hadn’t done for Maddie.

I gave her everything I could offer. Every ounce of love, loyalty, and effort I had. I worked myself to exhaustion just to make sure she never lacked anything. Bought her gifts I could barely afford. Put her needs before mine every single time.

And yesterday, she chose to do this to me.

If she had been nothing more than a gold digger from the start, why didn’t she leave sooner? Why wait? Why stay until I was completely invested, until I had given her not just my money, but my heart too?

Why wait until I had nothing left to give?

Out of all the rich men in this city, she just had to choose Jubril.

As if that wasn’t bitter enough.

She conveniently forgot that it was because of me that Jubril had the money he flaunted today. If I hadn’t handed him that contract, his new company would have collapsed before it even stood properly. Those investors were meant for my company. My future.

I gave him a chance when no one else would.

And after everything I did for him—after everything I sacrificed for both of them—they still made the decision to stab me in the back.

Together.

A quiet sigh slipped from my lips as I leaned my head back against the pillow and stared up at the ceiling, trying as much as possible to keep the little tears from spilling from my eyes

It only happened yesterday.

Yet it felt like a lifetime ago.

The pain was still fresh. Every time I replayed it in my mind, it hurt just as much as the first time.

And yet… just like that…

I’m now a billionaire

The thought almost made me laugh.

How?

I had no idea.

I didn’t know if it was magic, or some twisted form of witchcraft, or if I was losing my mind entirely. I didn’t even know if any of it made sense.

But one thing was certain.

The money was real.

I had seen it. Confirmed it.

And honestly… I was glad it was.

Because if it wasn’t—if all of this had turned out to be some cruel illusion—then with everything that had happened, I might as well just have committed suicide. I had already lost almost everything. There was nothing left worth holding on to.

I gave Maddie all I had.

But now, with this new wealth, everything changes.

I can finally start my company. Build something of my own from the ground up. Buy the cars and the house I used to only dream about. Multiply this money until it becomes untouchable.

And most of all…

Get my revenge.

Jubril and Maddie think they can take everything from me and walk away into a happy life?

Never.

I’ll crush them.

I’ll make them pay for every betrayal, every drop of pain they caused me. I’ll destroy everything they built so thoroughly that when it’s over, they’ll wish they had never crossed paths with me.

They took everything from me.

Now it’s my turn.

Chapter 15 Karion's POV [Quest objective complete] KROESUS System notification: Congratulations, host Karion Kross. Task one has been completed. You have officially leveled up to Level 2. Your reward has been added to your current balance. I read the notification off the digital screen floating in my vision, my eyes scrolling down almost instinctively to check my balance, and there it was, sitting plainly in front of me: 515,603,447,300.00 dollars. My eyebrow raised, genuinely caught off guard for a second. KROESUS had added over 10 billion dollars to my previous balance, just because I completed the task I was given? That wasn't remotely what I was expecting. Honestly, I hadn't expected any reward at all. I only completed the task because the consequences of failing sounded fatal enough that I wasn't willing to test them, and since I was cutting it close to the timer, the only realistic way to spend that much money in that little time was to buy something expensive. And at t

Chapter 14Jubril’s POVWater rushed down my head to my toe as I stayed silent in the shower for minutes, just staring down at the floor, lost in my own thoughts, hoping the hot shower might take away this unwanted worry am suddenly feeling, the kind of worry that had no business sitting on my shoulders in the first place. Those fucking idiots. I gave them one simple job, yet they still couldn’t get that done, I don’t even know why I haven’t fired them yet, because tell me how you fuck up something as simple as killing someone, it’s not that hard, just get the fucking job done and disappear, that was the whole point of paying people who were supposed to know what they were doing.I took in a deeper breath, trying to calm myself down, I shouldn’t be getting this worked up over a useless nobody, someone who used to matter to me but had long since become irrelevant. The only thing that’s getting me worried is the fact that he knows I tried to kill him, what if he went to the police and

Chapter 013Karion's POVThe blood in my mouth had already gathered up enough, so I collected it and spat it onto the floor, watching the manager's expression twist even further into disgust, his lips curling like he'd just watched something crawl out from under a rock. I did that on purpose, just to aggravate him a little more, to remind him that whatever composure he thought he'd stripped from me was still very much intact."That's what happens when trash like you tries to step out of line," jubril said, his voice carrying just enough volume to make sure the people still lingering around us heard it clearly, like he wanted an audience for this. The smirk on my face slowly faded. Alright, I was done taking all this from him. Even if I wasn't fully recovered, I could still push myself a little, at least enough to give him a black eye he'd have to explain to people for weeks, something to remind him this wasn't as one sided as he thought. The firm grip the guards had on me had loosened

Chapter 012Karion’s POV“Hold on, I’d like a word with him,” jubril’s voice said, stopping the guards before they began dragging me out, the sudden authority in his tone enough to make even the manager freeze mid step.“Sir, are you sure? I mean he’s not worth you wasting your time and energy on, he’s a nobody,” the manager said quickly, his eyes darting between me and jubril like he was trying to gauge whether he should still be siding against me.Jubril completely ignored the manager and took a step forward, his presence somehow filling up more of the room than it had a right to.“Why the hostile behavior kay?” Jubril said, calling me by my nickname like we were suddenly friends again “When I first saw you from over there, I thought I might have been seeing double, but I’ve known you too long not to recognize how your hair is, and that dragon tattoo at the back of your neck sealed the nail in the coffin. And when I came to holla at you, you grab me by my suit? Do you realize how ex

Chapter 11Karion's POVFuck.Out of every possible Louis Vuitton store they could have shown up in, it just had to be this particular one at this particular time.I should have probably just listened to the manager when he told me to leave. If I had, I wouldn't be standing here about to run into them again. It's not even like I can turn my back and blend in with the other customers, what am wearing makes me stand out the most in the entire store, so it was only a matter of time before they spotted me anyway. They both walked in feeling proud, feeling like the whole world existed just to make way for them, their steps slow and unhurried like the ground itself owed them something. Watching jubril carry himself like that made me sick to my guts, because the man he's become right now, the rich, almighty man he's parading around as, only exists because of me.A small realization crept up on me then, after he told his guys to kill me, I don't think he actually knew that I survived. Chapter 010Karion’s POV“Well, it’s only natural for someone like you to think something like that when am dressed like this” once again, I gestured towards my gown “but you really shouldn’t judge someone you know nothing about just by their looks you know” I added hoping he would probably listen, but let’s me be honest with myself, from the way he has been talking, guys like him doesn’t even give people like me a chance. He looked at me the way someone would look at a stain on an expensive rug, something that shouldn’t be there in the first place.“Oh, so your preaching now?” He said while letting out a small scoff “I shouldn’t judge people by looks alone huh? Should I tell you how stupid that saying of yours is? If I were to call someone here to evaluate our bank accounts just by looks, and the person decided to take your stupid saying and pick you as the more wealthy man between the both of us and me as the less wealthy, even with how your looking and how am looking, do you se
